What helps me with the phone is, give the phone also a place in your home. Like a Computer. So you go there to check something but then you leave it there again.

Tip for getting back into reading that worked for me - read whatever you truly enjoy with zero shame. Don’t start by trying to read classics, non-fiction if that’s not your thing, etc. I realized I truly enjoy YA, so that’s what I read! I think that’s why we loved reading as kids - we read any story that gripped our interest without the pressure of what we “should” be reading.
Yes! This is how I got back into reading two years ago - I started with really trashy romances that were easy to read and got me hooked quickly. Once I built back up the skill of reading again it was so much easier to tackle non-fiction. I also recommend reading two (or more!) books at once, one fiction and one non-fiction, so you can reach for what you feel like in the moment rather than avoiding the one book you think you should be reading.
I’ve been watching your channel for nearly 4 years now, ever since I was pregnant with my son. I stumbled upon you while trying to feel less alone in becoming a new mother. You’ve been a huge inspiration to me in so many ways! I continue to put one of your videos on to get me motivated throughout the day, and your family keeps me company during the most mundane of tasks. I appreciate it so very much, truly 🤍 Much love from myself and my three-year-old, Atlas
There was a girl I heard talking about how we hold our kids to higher standards than ourselves and I thought that was so true in every sense. I don't let my kids spend too much time on screens, eat unhealthy food, spend too much time without exercise - the list goes on!! And yet as a busy mom I let things slide way more often than I should... I let myself down! I loved listening to your New Year's resolutions, it has made me feel excited for the year to come and what I can do better! I want to hold myself to a higher standard than I hold my kids 😅😂
I agree with you I think most of us parents do this with our kids but I think In a way it’s good to teach them a better way of life than the one we as a parent live
Tears came to my eyes when you talked about your phone and nursing. Ive been there before and I know how it feels to see it a phone addiction through our Little Ones eyes. So many of your aspirations/ intentions made me feel seen bc I struggle with a lot of those personal things too, like being touched out, not feel joy, escaping through my phone, losing my love of reading. Something my FIL does (he’s a pastor and a very Godly man) that has greatly helped my complaining, is instead of complain about something he’ll pray out loud to the Lord. We live with my in-laws while my husband finishes his PhD, and it’s been so eye opening for me, a fresh Christian, to hear him have so much faith and trust in the Lord. For ex: the garage door button stops working randomly and he can’t open the door and he feels himself getting fussy, I can hear him say “Lord please fix the door”(something to that extent). He does this for EVERYTHING! Lost his book? Asks the Lord for guidance, can’t focus to write an email, prays to the Lord to help him focus, its consist and just who he. I can not say I am at his level but it’s been life changing to hear his dedication to Lord. I’ve even heard my two year old ask the lord for parking bc we couldn’t find any 🥹😮💨♥️ One last thing that has changed my heart is a book I finished last year called “Calm My Anxious Heart” by Lauren Dillow . The back of the book has questions and scripture references that we went through in a bible study group. We read a chapter and did the corresponding questions once a week. This book helped me understand that my anxiety was me trying to take control. It helped me learn to give my anxiety back to God. I share all of this to let you know you’re not alone with ANY of those relational struggles, and that you made me feel seen. But also to hopefully encourage you right back ❤
Yes when I heard that it reminded me of my son. He always brings me my phone. Whatever it is I'm doing. He'll say momma where's your phone and he'll go get it for me. He hears me ask myself where I put my phone all the time.
My word this year is “create”- more time for myself, more art, more movement in my body, more time for rest, a big garden, a space where I can have chickens, a fun environment for my kids, etc. First things to happen to me this year is that my daughter got a bunch of garden tools from family for Christmas, I found out I was pregnant (creating life), and three random chickens ended up in my yard (one has disappeared sadly, but hopefully we find her). It’s already a whirlwind of creativity for me.
'Intentional with my time' that's exactly how ive been explaining the main aim in my life in all the things I want to change or set up in our lives these past two years. Ever since i got into Montessori parenting around 5 months I was gradually improving myself too doing self reflection. I fluctuate a lot due to coping mechanisms for the incidents that we have been through but i always come bank to bring more intentional with parenting with habits with time with ibadah worship. The main thing in our religion is our intention. The reward we get from just our intention alone being for Allah is what helps understand what we are doing and if it is good for us or not. Alhamdulillah.
I took a sewing class through my local community college a couple years ago and it was so helpful! I had purchased a sewing machine a year earlier but had never used it because I was intimidated and now I’m very comfortable. I’ve sewn myself a tote bag, pot holders, Halloween costumes, gift bags for Christmas/birthdays, blackout Romain shades for my sons room, and a bunch of other stuff. I’m planning to make some clothes this year, other than costumes I haven’t made any clothes yet so that should be a fun challenge. The class also taught me how to use a pattern and what all the symbols mean which has been helpful. I definitely recommend checking out your local community college for anyone interested in learning.
My word this year is connect. Hoping to connect with my friends, family and RUclips following more while also disconnecting from so much phone usage. Wow the addiction can be so real at times!
Hi Delilah! Would LOVE it if you started a book club with us- I’ve been wanting to get back into reading but have the HARDEST time picking a book or finding books I’m interested in- this would be so fun!
My “theme” for 2023 is passion. Last year I focused on my mental health and getting my degree and i realized i only focused on that. This year i want to do things that i’m passionate about, no matter how small a thing. I want to learn piano, garden, do some pottery, draw, learn to cook and bake. I say passion because then it means it’s something i want to do and not have to do. i put a lot of pressure on myself when it comes to my hobbies and things i like, that i have to be perfect at it. but i am learning that if i love to do it, i just need to dive in and have fun. who cares if my food doesn’t turn out good, i put in the work and i learned on the way. i am not the best drawer but whenever i am bored i start to doodle and it’s a creative outlet for me. because i now do the things i’m passionate about instead of scrolling, i am becoming more confident in them and even enjoying the process
I try to always compliment strangers because you never know how you can make someone’s day or even change their life by a simple compliment of wow your dress looks so beautiful on you or I love your hair or even hearing someone talk to their children and saying your a beautiful mumma
Start with reading magazines 🙂. Like real paper magazines about gardening and home design... And make yourself really read the whole thing. I really love inspirational stories about real people, it motivates me.
Dear Delilah, I’m not sure if you will even get to reading this, but your channel has been a huge blessing for me and my little family. To get into detail: My Husband and I are 20 years old. We met/“dated”, and 4 years later, married- all in the same church at 18. We got pregnant 3 months later and I gave birth to our son -Theodore- at 19). And in God’s perfect timing (around the time that I first got pregnant) 😌 I came across your channel. For a little bit of time I also thought about starting my own channel so that I could document our journey and our little Theo too! But I was very intimidated by that because I am, in all honesty, a BIG work in progress. Growing up I unfortunately was never given the encouragement to learn self-discipline so it is something I am now having to work through. Mainly when it comes to routines and just being a godly wife and mother all around. But luckily I don’t have to add on the stress of having that RUclips channel and instead, every week or so I can come on here and be filled up by your wonderful encouragement 😇🤍 (Especially by this one!!!) I’ll save my whole life story for another time, 😂 sorry. But it truly was on my heart to let you know (if this even gets to you) that YOU are appreciated and that I appreciate what GOD is doing through you 🥰. I thank God and you sincerely. In Him, Michaela P.s. I love that you are always so well spoken- and that is a goal I’m also adding to my list!
I recently heard it said that “we underestimate what we can do in a year and overestimate what we can do in a day.” I love your videos:) good luck, I FEEL these goals!
Delilah, your channel is such a peaceful, wholesome corner of the internet ❤️ I feel like a lot of people look down on homemaking these days as not important or backwards. It’s so nice to see someone that loves nurturing their home. I have similar “resolutions” this year to add more recipes to my rotation, garden, read, and constantly improve my homemaking skills as a wife and mother.
For books, I take my baby to the library every week for story time. I grab some baby books for him, and grab 1-3 for myself as well. I grab fiction out of teen/young adult sections (the last one I read was a "good read for a 6th grader"). They are very engaging but also don't demand near as much time out of your day. James Patterson writes similarly, the chapters are short, so you can read some, but stop to make dinner, etc. And you aren't slogging through the same book for a month. For non-fiction, I head straight for arts and crafts, specifically sewing. Ive taken out a few books on "projects to make with 1 yd of fabric" and even one on "stylish dresses". The dresses were not at all my style, but it gave me some ideas. This most recent trip I took out 3 books on mending (very close to sewing and quilting). One was very basic, aimed at if you had never sewn before. The second was about Visual Mending (very "in" right now), it was more about being a feminist and being anti-fast fashion than the sewing itself. And the last was a simple wardrobe update book, turn dresses into peplum tops and add bias binding to blazers. I've taken out a few on home decor/hosting parties as well. Build up to books that will take a month, if thats what you want. In the meantime, judge books by their cover, return it in a week if it wasn't what you were looking for, and if you find one you want to reference again and again, buy it. But use the library, its the best resource for books!! My husband and I implemented monthly date night after I heard about your weekly date night. Its on our google calendar and we successfully finished last year last weekend with AVATAR 2 (only 2 weeks late). I have been making yogurt and sourdough bread and I have tried canning...once. Definitely looking forward to making more things from scratch as time goes on. Please keep linking recipes!!
Wooooow, I share so many of your goals for this year! It's crazy, and uplifting to know we're not the only ones that are working on these things. My husband and I were also discussing how we constantly feel 'full', like we don't have time to actually process all the information we put in our brains by scrolling our phones. So after watching Now That We're A Family's video on them being a screen free family (for family times) video, we made a VERY difficult disciscion. We deleted all our socials and our browser from our phones. Our phones are now smart dumb phones. We have a weather app, public transportation planner, messaging apps, an app on first aid, wikipedia and that's about it. It is HARD! I find myself not knowing what to do with my time SO often, it is very confronting, but at the same time, I have SO much more attention for my family, feel SO much more happy and rested. I feel like it's the holiday's, really! We can still watch video's and use socials, but we have to use our desktop computer. That small inconvenience leads to FAR less media intake and it's been very helpfull, but HARD, I admit. I have found myself reading a lot more, took up knitting a bunch more, getting outside with the kids more (even though the weather is very bad), and, embarrasingly enough, talk a lot more with my husband and we feel SO much more connected. We had a realy good marriage, but we find ourselves randomly kissing and complimenting each other a lot more. I honestly think ditching the browser and other time wasting apps was the best thing I did this year so far and I'm excited to see what more it will bring me after the discomfort weans.
Gosh, I don't have children of my own yet, but when you mentioned William bringing you your phone before breastfeeding, I felt a swell of emotion in my chest and the onslaught of tears building up. 🥺 Our addictions keep us from connecting with family. I think it's so wonderful that you're talking about it here, and wanting to make changes to be more present with your husband and children. ❤ As an introvert myself, I know how hard it is keeping up with friends, but I imagine it's even more difficult when raising three little ones. Be proud of the accomplishments you make this year in bettering yourself, even if it's only small changes. ❤ You're amazing!
Also I hear you on putting your husband first, that’s one on my goals too to learn how to love him better and show him how much I love him, and to be more affectionate in ALL THE WAYS 😊
I love your honesty and openness. I love your list so much. It has so much on it I would also love to do as well. One thing I do want to say is that it might be more attainable and maintainable if you baby stepped the list. So many of the things are HUGE goals. Things like a gardening from seed and making so much food from scratch. I feel they could be extremely overwhelming and self defeating. Maybe picking tomatoes or beans from seed this year and expand? Or replace one thing a month in your kitchen from scratch. I think that is how I would lie to do some of these wonderful ideas. Returning my husbands affections!!! YES!!! You nailed it with always thinking ahead. I needed to hear your words today. Thank you for sharing!!!!
Stop filling the silence with noise. That one hit me. I’ve been consciously aware that I do this. If it’s quiet I put on a podcast or even music. I’m not ready to sit in silence but I feel like I desperately need it. Thank you for sharing this.
I have a spot for my phone on an open shelf in the kitchen. I put it there as soon as soon as I get up and there it stays untouched (unless it rings or I need to send a text message) until my children are in bed. I also took messenger off my phone so it does not ding all day long ( I have to be on my laptop to access messenger). I find I am much more productive this way.
A true proverbs woman. Love you, Delilah. Been with you since 2019. You radiate Christ, positivity and is the most genuine kind soul that we can all learn from. Keep pushing through and fighting the good fight. Much love and GOD bless you and your beautiful family. ❤
I’m currently reading “A Mother’s Rule of Life: How to bring order to your life and peace to your soul” combining the spiritual wisdom of the monastery with the practical wisdom of motherhood, and while I’m not done, it’s fantastic so far and have heard endless great things about this book!
A little tip from a bookworm who’s also a mom of 3…just carry your book with you in the house. Mine is mainly in the kitchen cuz that’s where I spend most of my time but just literally read in any little MINUTE you have. When I’m cooking, I will stand in the kitchen and read while I’m waiting for something to cook. I read while I’m breastfeeding, and I do actually stay up super late to read after the kids go to sleep lol but I hope you can fine time to read!
Delilah! You gotta read “finding the hero in your husband” It’s so easy to read/rebuking/encouraging! 10/10 would highly recommend every Christian wife to read.
Delilah I LOVE that you want to sew. I learned from an elderly woman from church- it warmed both of our hearts so much to have that time together learning. I would encourage you to learn from an elder, it’s awesome!
@@alyssah1221 It was such a mutually lovely experience, and kind elders can have so much wisdom. She was also an excellent seamstress, having made almost her entire wardrobe herself.
You always make me feel so calm, I have a 2 yr old and 13. And 11 yr old at 45…. I have no friends in common with me so I so enjoy your channel. Been watching since I was pregnant with my 2 yr old.
Mine is to stop comparing myself to people on social media. To stop buying unnecessary things because someone on social media has it. To genuinely be my true self and to allow God to lead myself and my family even more.
My guiding word this year is *Create* There is going to be a lot of change throughout this year, and rather then worry about it, I am going to focus on the things I can do that make me happy and add value to my life. Weather that be woodworking projects, sourdough, kombucha, or art.
I also have the complaining less on my list and it's been hard, I'm pregnant and due in a week and I can't stop complaining. It's a blessing, I love her so much but the pains and everything bother me at the moment... It's been hard but by the end of the year, I will have it under control. Last year I had not back lashing when someone was negative or said something offensive to me or my loved ones... they have an unresolved problem it's not about me most of the time so I just change the subject when it's my mom or just not say anything or walk away if it's anyone else not as important in my life. I never thought I could do it but I'm there. It took me half of a year but I'm so proud of that change and I'm so better for it. And complaining less will be harder but I can do it too, and I will be so much better at it because I don't want to be a grumpy old lady :D And you will get there too
Book suggestion: The wisdom of the enneagram. It's a book about personality types, but it has exercises and other nice things. I see how much you love to see the personalities of the kids and it would be nice for you to understand yourself.
It is amazing how I have been thinking on these things as well! Almost everything on your list I feel the Lord has been leading me to also work on these things. Thank you for sharing with us, it is shuch an encouragement to hear. Always know you are a great blessing to those around you, close and not so close. 💗🤗
My words are slow & togetherness ❤️ we’ve had a lot of family separation and busyness in the last year and I think we will all benefit so much from slowing everything down, focusing on our nuclear family & giving ourselves space to explore, create, & just enjoy life with each other ❤️❤️❤️
Book recommendation: the Mama Bear Apologetics books! They’re all about talking to your kids about your faith, understanding the culture they’re growing up in, and raising them with the ability to think critically. There’s one about apologetics and one about sexuality, they’re both five stars and relatively easy reading.
Great video with great advice and motivation. We’re a Montessori/homeschool family and these were suggested from my groups. The call of the wild + free, raising good humans, parent over perfect, the whole brain child, and the brave learner.
Thanks for this video! A lot of similar goals to mine. Some books I’m loving: - Risen Motherhood (Emily Jensen & Laura Wifler) - The Pursuit of God (A W Tozer) - 12 Faithful Women (Catherine Parks & Kristen Wetherell) - M is for Motherhood (Abbie Halberstadt)
i've been watching your channel for about 6 months now. As someone whos is college, but wants my future to be quite simmilar to yours, I loved this video. I agree with alot of your points, especially with the filling the silence with noice. I notice I do this alot, and my new years goal is to do this.
I literally had to pause to comment. I’ve been feeling a lot of the same things you have been talking about recently in my own motherhood journey as well. I have four kids ranging from 7 years down to 1 and I also Home School. Today after church I felt this tugging in my heart to start a prayer journal specifically for my husband and my kids. Just to have a place to speak truth about who God has called them to become into existence - I believe that when you profess these things unto God that He delivers. It’s just so mind blowing to me. On the very first page I wanted to draw a picture with a verse before beginning to actually journal, and the one that kept ringing through my head was Philippians 4:8-9. It’s just so fitting for where I am in my life and the walk we are walking as a family heading into this year. Anyway, I know I’m just a person on the internet, but it was just so cool for me to have just now clicked to watch your video and see the same scripture come up. Blessings to you and your family, I am a fairly new follower and love your content, we align on so many levels. 🥰
Thank you so much for sharing this intimate goals. It’s such a value and gift for those who can take it and listen 😊👌🏼 On the point “positive mindset” - what really helps me is a daily declaration. For me it’s a mix of statements what God says about me and how He has gifted me and so on. That gives me a whole new perspective on me and my environment every day. And some other statements are things I would love to see/think/feel/do more as a wife and mother. I re-write them once in a while to fit my circumstances and roles. To speak it out or listen to it daily is a real game changer (have not yet accomplished myself to do it daily, but the times I’ve done it on a regular basis changed so much in me)
I think something awesome to replace complaining with is by saying something you are thankful for. Also instead of picking up or phone to scroll pick a Christian playlist of hymns or anything worship. 😊
Convincing and encouraging at the same time. I've started my own list and encouraged to know other moms are actually making big efforts to grow in the Lord and in their homemaking skills. Thank you for the video.
I too am an introvert and that is okay, be easy on yourself. Complaining less is something I need to work on, I find that if I get together with a friend(s) occasionally we sometimes talk things out and vent sometimes which makes you see that you are not alone and it can make you feel like you got it off your chest and feel better afterwards. We are all in this together us women need to help each other. You are a good Mom and wife give yourself some grace. Hugs
Books I’ve loved picking up: - The Lighthouse Keeper’s Daughter (novel) - Natural Childbirth: The Bradley Way - Talking Dirt (or Let’s Talk Dirt) (a gardening book) - Bringing Up Boys - Aesop’s Fabels (fun to pick up) - Mere Christianity - Narnia series - Orphan Train (novel) - Anything from Edith Stein and Flannery O Conner on women
An awesome app for limiting screen time for m a certain app such as instagram is called One Sec. I found myself reflexively tapping on instagram even when that’s not really what I wanted to do. The app is set up to make you pause and be intentional with being on social media. Got my daily times of opening instagram down from 30 times per day to 1!
Book recommendations: Encountering our Wild God by Kim Meeder M is for Mama by Abbie Halberstadt Gluing the Cracks by Katie Boackburn Any books by Sally Clarkson You can also read some classic books aloud for your kids. Also reading essays on Coffee and Crumbs has also been so good for me. They also have a book that they published a while back with essays in it, which is perfect for any mom that only has a few minutes to read something. Ah Delilah! All of these goals are absolutely golden! Yes! Especially, embracing the silence, reading more and giving more compliments. I really struggle with that! Being intentional to show affection towards hubby, kids and to show love by giving a meal to a friend (even if it's just muffins).
I do not know how to be in silence anymore. I fill the void too, with videos, music, and sometimes I stop and think "What did people do back when phones and TVs did not exist ?". Whatever they did, they made do without those things... so I guess I can too ^^
I also used to love reading and stopped for a while after we had our daughter. Recently I picked it back up again! Key for better focus is being on social media less. Also the more you read a little every day, the more you'll get that muscle working again. My favorite genres are theology, motherhood, and fantasy. Here's some of my recent reads that I'm recommending to you: Narnia - rereading this for the third time I think. It’s so fun the more I learn about theology and see the Christian parallels in the stories! Loving The Little Years - Rachel Jankovic The Read-Aloud Family - Sarah Mackenzie Mere Motherhood - Cindy Rollins Honey for a Child’s Heart - Gladys Hunt Diving into my husband’s Christmas gift to me soon, RC Sproul NT commentaries. Heard they’re excellent and from the excerpts I’ve read so far, that sounds right!
Well this was an awesome reminder for me. The first week of 2023 was awesome for me and the most healthy I had been in so long. Because of small goals I made for myself regarding screens. And then I let myself get back to binging first thing in the morning and everything derailed bad. So, this is God’s way of hinting I think ahahaha appreciate it 💕
I've recently gotten back into reading and have some recommendations: Braiding sweetgrass, Entertaining ourselves to death, Atomic Habits and Daring Greatly. Fictional books: Before the coffee gets cold and On earth we're briefly gorgeous.
Yes this video is uplifting and challenging to me. I am always working on being more organized by being mindful of putting things like my car keys in their proper place and not doing things on autopilot. I can tell that you want to be the best that you can be and you are doing great.
I think you were incredibly brave to share such personal areas of your life with us, each and every week! Also here just to remind ya- that we are such powerful beings we can co-create all these intentions/goals/ and so much more! I personally love the ability to show up with first and foremost intention to uplift and inspire others.
I’ve been LOVING the book M is for Mama by Abbie Halberstadt. It’s all about having Christ and God at the center of your mothering and has some wonderful insights. It totally changed how I think about a lot of things as a mom and it has brought me lots of growth and joy! I’d highly recommend it!!
Your goal to be more positive made me realize that I need to work on my scarcity mindset. It's such a debilitating form of pessimism - thank you for the inspiration! ❤️
It is also okay to have a new year and the same you ! You are exactly enough as you are! You are a great mother doing so so so so much for your family. Having goals is great but don’t put too much pressure on yourself . ❤
I like your idea of complementing others. I personally realised that complementing people (or being complemented) for their actions, their thoughtfulness etc. is more fullfilling than complementing someones for their appearance. I think depending on the person this can be triggering (e.g. oh I only look good with make-up on). I try very hard not to comment on someones appearance. Not in my head, especially not in front of my kids to show them that appearance does not define your worth and that other things make people valuable. I love all of your goals and I hope you manage (unlike me most years) to see them as kind of guiding principles and not as set in stone goals you need to achieve. This can be very stressful (at least for me it is). Thanks for sharing all your thoughts with us
So many of these goals are on my list as well! I also noticed I would grabbed my phone before nursing as well, and so I just decided to start 2023 without any social media and it’s been the biggest blessing and bonding time with my 5mo old. Thank you for sharing!
Wow Delilah, what a beautiful and intentional video! It is as if I hear myself thinking. So much recognition. I wish you and your beautiful family all the best in 2023. ❤❤
Atomic Habits would be the best book for you to start with, especially considering your goals are predominantly based around wanting to build new habits 🤍 Such a great one, audiobooks are great too!
Delilah, I’m so glad I found you! You and I are so similar and every one of your points resonated with me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful self ❤️ wishing you the best on your 2023 journey!
It is so fun to sew, granted I have only made curtains, a petticoat and dress, and my specialty: loads and loads of quilts. You are not a grandma, you are learning skills as a mama :) My goal this year was to make bread because I am sooo bad with yeast. I love that you have a similar goal. Gardening is a lot of fun. I love growing my own zucchini because I eat it a lot! I got to the point where I use Hoopla, where I do audio books for free (hoopla is attached to my local library). That way when I am doing dishes or cleaning the house, I can hear the book read to me when I don't have time to sit and read. I read physical books too though. I love the swapping that you mentioned. You can do it!! :) I totally understand feeling like mush after a while. I used to read my Bible every single day for over a decade over and over again and now I barely do and it is really sad.
Sewist here! Curtains are *a lot* of one thing--hemming--a thing that a lot of sewists put off on garments because it's *boring* Everyone I know who sews *hates* making curtains and I would hate to see a new skill fall to the wayside bc the boring thing about it is what's being practiced! I highly recommend to any new sewists for their first project to be a super simple skirt (usually two rectangles with an elastic waistband) because it's quick, easy, really hard to mess up, and satisfying 💖 maybe matching skirts for mom and daughter?
This has been posted for a while now, but I have to comment...your list of healthy habits and your perspective on them has been the most inspirational thing I have heard in a long time! Thank you so much for sharing this, Delilah ❤️
Box gardening is REALLY good for growing a garden from seed! It’s biggest help is that it keeps the ground from getting pounded on as you walk around and weed and water. You can also build boxes that allow you to grow plants in the winter, but I haven’t tried that yet 😂
Whoever said Anne of Green Gables, I second that! It’s a wonderful book (series) and very kid friendly. Super nostalgic. -Harry Potter series -Matilda -And Then There Were None -The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society -The Hobbit -Brave New World
I am the same for words of affirmation. I often look at my husband and think wow he looks good but I rarely say it out loud and he needs and deserves that. My love language is acts of service
You were talking about your garden and I kept thinking of me wanting to become a better mother and even though my girl is almost 10 months I already feel like I'm failing. Its all guesswork and I still haven't got my mother instinct' like hubby has father instinct since day 1.
I actually teared up a little when you talked about William bringing your phone to nurse. I've been working on setting more boundaries with my own phone, starting with just no more scrolling in bed at night. Not even no phone, I still allow myself to play mindless games for a couple mins, just no more Facebook or Instagram to start. It's such a small step but it's already been so hard! I realized scrolling was becoming a problem when I caught myself repeatedly closing an app, opening another for a minute, and then closing it to open the one I just got off 🥴 it's ridiculous how much it's taken over my life!
Most of these hit home for me. Loved this list, and thanks for all that you do and how you express the struggles of motherhood and put them out there for those like me that can't find a way too.
Here are a few books by Art Bennett I want to read and would recommend: The Temperament God Gave Your Spouse, The Temperament God Gave Your Kids: Motivate, Discipline, and Love Your Children & The Temperament God Gave You.
Love hearing your perspective Delilah! Paused halfway in the video to share some book recommendations - Habits of the Household by Justin Whitney Early (really practical parenting book based around rhythms in the family) - Treasuring CHRIST when your hands are full by Gloria Furman (this book has a permanent spot on my nightstand. So full of encouragement) - Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund (recommend this for everybody) Also, don’t dismiss fiction. There’s much to learn from stories. And it’s a really sweet way to unwind after a long day. I’m really enjoying the classics these days - Anne of Green Gables series is sweet. Or Louisa May Alcott (love any of her books)
What helps me with the phone is, give the phone also a place in your home. Like a Computer. So you go there to check something but then you leave it there again.
Here is a list of the goals Delilah noted
1. Spend less money
2. Find a home for everything we own
3. Organize digitally
4. Eat a more wholesome diet
5. Learn how to sew
6. Master something Ex. sourdough
7. Plant a garden from seeds
8. Read more books
9. Stop filing the Silence with noise
10. Swap scrolling with *blank* Ex. Hobbies
11. Give more compliments
12. Kiss my husband more
13. Take date night more seriously
14. Hold my children more
15. Start giving meals to friends more often
16. No more taking my cellphone to the bathroom
17. Complain less
18. Shifting my mindset ex. Be more optimistic and positive
19. Do a load of laundry every day
20. Work less
21. Be more social
22. Have mom and dad be in the frame more
23. Take care of my skin
Thank you for saving me time. 🙏
I agree! I love historical romances and I also have now realized it’s better to quit a book I don’t enjoy than forcing myself to finish it.
I’ve even heard my two year old ask the lord for parking bc we couldn’t find any 🥹😮💨♥️
One last thing that has changed my heart is a book I finished last year called “Calm My Anxious Heart” by Lauren Dillow .
But also to hopefully encourage you right back ❤
thank you for this comment. ❤
Excellent book suggestion!
On the skin front, I’d recommend looking into facial yoga. Imo it’s more beneficial thank products
I always enjoy watching your videos. always be happy❤
I just have to say, it so encouraging to me to see a young mother wanting to pursue a deep relationship with the Lord!
Backwoods Home Magazine is THE best magazine. So useful, highly recommend.
You’re like having a cup of coffee with a friend
Thank you 🙏🏼
I'm currently reading 'Hunt, Gather, Parent' and enjoying it a lot! 😊
Dear Delilah,
I’m not sure if you will even get to reading this, but your channel has been a huge blessing for me and my little family.
To get into detail:
My Husband and I are 20 years old.
But luckily I don’t have to add on the stress of having that RUclips channel and instead, every week or so I can come on here and be filled up by your wonderful encouragement 😇🤍 (Especially by this one!!!)
I’ll save my whole life story for another time, 😂 sorry.
But it truly was on my heart to let you know (if this even gets to you) that YOU are appreciated and that I appreciate what GOD is doing through you 🥰.
I thank God and you sincerely.
In Him,
Michaela
P.s. I love that you are always so well spoken- and that is a goal I’m also adding to my list!
I recently heard it said that “we underestimate what we can do in a year and overestimate what we can do in a day.”
I love your videos:) good luck, I FEEL these goals!
As you learn new skills, I would love to see videos of learning to sew and crocheting something new. Super inspiring to start a new skill!
Slow down and grow something is a good book about gardening and starting a garden!
I have always wanted to sew and have looked into sewing classes, but I love this idea so much more!!
Thank you Delilah. The Lord has open my eyes and my mind and he spoke to my heart through your words. Thanks a lot. Be blessed.
My guiding word this year is *Create*
There is going to be a lot of change throughout this year, and rather then worry about it, I am going to focus on the things I can do that make me happy and add value to my life. Weather that be woodworking projects, sourdough, kombucha, or art.
Audio books are a great option to get back into books. Especially the dryer books like patenting and improvement books
I used my winter break to revamp my menu for our home, including making bread, making peanut butter, broths, etc.
Thanks for this video! A lot of similar goals to mine.
Some books I’m loving:
- Risen Motherhood (Emily Jensen & Laura Wifler)
- The Pursuit of God (A W Tozer)
- 12 Faithful Women (Catherine Parks & Kristen Wetherell)
- M is for Motherhood (Abbie Halberstadt)
Martha Peace - The Excellent Wife, is a great book. Also, Robert D. Jones - Uprooting Anger. They’re both Christian books and incredibly helpful.
I think you would like the Christian book “M is for Mama”. It’s extremely uplifting.
I’ve loved seeing you grow and change through the shifts of life.
EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT WAS THE KIDS/every sat was hubby and me/sunday was us three//early to bed as well//
i've been watching your channel for about 6 months now. As someone whos is college, but wants my future to be quite simmilar to yours, I loved this video. I agree with alot of your points, especially with the filling the silence with noice. I notice I do this alot, and my new years goal is to do this.
"The book you wish your parents had read (and your children will be glad you did)" it's a great parenting book
It’s such a value and gift for those who can take it and listen 😊👌🏼
On the point “positive mindset” - what really helps me is a daily declaration.
Hugs
Essentialism by Greg Mckeown is one of my current fav books. It really ties in with the simplified life that you’ve been working towards.
As for the book recommendations about parenting, Jesper Juul and Dr Shefali Tsabary are my favorite authors. I really love their books.
M is for Momma book!! So encouraging and very biblical!
If you need book recommendations:
- Francine Rivers (especially her book "Hadassah" or "Redeeming Love"
or
- Elisabeth Elliot
Books I’ve loved picking up:
- The Lighthouse Keeper’s Daughter (novel)
- Natural Childbirth: The Bradley Way
- Talking Dirt (or Let’s Talk Dirt) (a gardening book)
- Bringing Up Boys
- Aesop’s Fabels (fun to pick up)
- Mere Christianity
- Narnia series
- Orphan Train (novel)
- Anything from Edith Stein and Flannery O Conner on women
Was just watching a video of yours from 2019, I loved your old house 🥲 ok, time to get back to present day 😁
An awesome app for limiting screen time for m a certain app such as instagram is called One Sec. I found myself reflexively tapping on instagram even when that’s not really what I wanted to do. The app is set up to make you pause and be intentional with being on social media. Got my daily times of opening instagram down from 30 times per day to 1!
Through the eyes of a lion by Levi Lusko! Incredible book. Incredible pastor and family
Book recommendations:
Encountering our Wild God by Kim Meeder
M is for Mama by Abbie Halberstadt
Gluing the Cracks by Katie Boackburn
Any books by Sally Clarkson
You can also read some classic books aloud for your kids.
I just discovered Sally Clarkson this past week and I can’t wait to read some of her books!!
@@AmandaJanayFrank I have learnt so much from her. She also has a podcast that I listen to regularly. It is truly encouraging🌿
I do not know how to be in silence anymore. I fill the void too, with videos, music, and sometimes I stop and think "What did people do back when phones and TVs did not exist ?". Whatever they did, they made do without those things... so I guess I can too ^^
Look into winter sowing!! I start majority of my seeds this way- peppers, tomatoes, flowers, etc. All you need are plastic jugs, soil, water and seed
For the laundry, try putting the laundry in the washing machine the night before and then the dryer in the morning!
I also used to love reading and stopped for a while after we had our daughter. Recently I picked it back up again! Key for better focus is being on social media less. Also the more you read a little every day, the more you'll get that muscle working again.
My favorite genres are theology, motherhood, and fantasy. Here's some of my recent reads that I'm recommending to you:
Narnia - rereading this for the third time I think. It’s so fun the more I learn about theology and see the Christian parallels in the stories!
Loving The Little Years - Rachel Jankovic
The Read-Aloud Family - Sarah Mackenzie
Mere Motherhood - Cindy Rollins
Honey for a Child’s Heart - Gladys Hunt
Diving into my husband’s Christmas gift to me soon, RC Sproul NT commentaries.
You
are exactly enough as you are!
You are not a grandma, you are learning skills as a mama :)
My goal this year was to make bread because I am sooo bad with yeast.
Wow, thank you. I have very similar goals. May God leed us all who care to be nearer to him and the family. ❤️
Sewist here! Curtains are *a lot* of one thing--hemming--a thing that a lot of sewists put off on garments because it's *boring*
Everyone I know who sews *hates* making curtains and I would hate to see a new skill fall to the wayside bc the boring thing about it is what's being practiced!
-Harry Potter series
-Matilda
-And Then There Were None
-The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
-The Hobbit
-Brave New World
Oh I Love the Hobbit!
Book recs I think you’d enjoy:
- The Lifegiving Home by Sally Clarkson
- Hunt Gather Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff
- Holy Hygge by Amie Erickson
You are doing an incredible job. I think you are inspiring and wise beyond your years. Many blessings to you and your sweet family for 2023
Most of these hit home for me.
Thank you so much for your humility and honesty, it is so refreshing ♥️
I’m struggl8ng lately and this video has been an eye opener _ I know these things but it just brings it to the forefront - thank you!
Love hearing your perspective Delilah! Paused halfway in the video to share some book recommendations
- Habits of the Household by Justin Whitney Early (really practical parenting book based around rhythms in the family)
- Treasuring CHRIST when your hands are full by Gloria Furman (this book has a permanent spot on my nightstand. So full of encouragement)
- Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortlund (recommend this for everybody)
Also, don’t dismiss fiction. There’s much to learn from stories. And it’s a really sweet way to unwind after a long day. I’m really enjoying the classics these days - Anne of Green Gables series is sweet. Or Louisa May Alcott (love any of her books)
