This is about the bonding for the small amount around the rim. The reason why you were able to support your weight with 15 less layers but couldn't support the landing has nothing to do with the amount of layers and the amount was holding the rim.
As others have pointed out, the main issue comes from the fact that stacked layers of tape are still relying on the same amount of adhesive to keep it on the frame. Which is why the tape itself isn't ripping, it's just sliding off of the frame.
This tape snapped easily 1 layer thick, the adhesive came loose much later. There are still bits of tape attached at both ends at 10 layers thick. Any wider than 5/6 and you would have to start weaving the tape together
OP means that the tape didn't "break" (snap in half), it was just the part of the tape pasted on the metal frame that peeled off the frame as he landed on it

I was looking at the comments and was like how does no one see this. If he double over the layers he probably could have done less layers. Lol when the strip got wider with more surface area of tape on the bar he landed it.
If it only breaks off the frame but the tape itself doesn't snap, then the adhesive is the failure point. Layering tape doesn't improve that failure point, but putting more tape in contact with the bar does improve it. Only if the tape itself breaks does adding layers help.

We can be just as stupid, just a bit lighter.😂
No matter how many layers you add, the torque to support you is provided by the friction between the first layer and the ring…..not changing no matter how many layers you add on top of it…😅
to be fair, several of the earlier ones were snapping, not sliding off. So the tapes (tensile?) strength is weaker than the adhesion to the sides. And with later attempts, you do see him spreading out the tape to cover more of the ring and spread out the force. I think.

to be fair, several of the earlier ones were snapping, not sliding off. So the tapes (tensile?) strength is weaker than the adhesion to the sides. And with later attempts, you do see him spreading out the tape to cover more of the ring and spread out the force.
I think.
@@Cyrribrae i think
Apparently not since 25 was a lot different than one
He also did not constrain the tape in a intelligent way
Not only does he have to find out how much tape supports him he also has to actually land on that thin peice of tape so well done to him 👏👏👏
