awesome to see speedruns for this game. that said, the runners could've at least tried to learn the basic lore of the game lol. we DO know why everyone is underground, it's because the sun has allegedly stopped burning and thus the surface temperature is extremely cold to the point that it's uninhabitable
Spoiler: The reason everyone is underground is that the sun gets obscured by space debris, shown in the full ending. Also there are people alive on the surface

this game is my childhood. im glad i found it on esa, finally getting a bit of the attention it deserves
you do find out what happened. The sun disappeared and its insanely cold above ground.
I've always wondered about that because without the sun what would be keeping earth in it's rotation

The portal spell is actually in your journal (not spellbook) after the snake lady teaches it to you in the cutscene. So if you forget it it's there.
