Imma actually answer your question. "Son" has a few diff meanings in NYC vs. down south/other parts of the country. Here you can say "Homie is my son" and be the same age as the dude and it just means that you're really close that to that dude -- i.e., the opposite of insulting. Calling someone your "son" in other parts of the country could have more of a derogatory meaning, but it's really not taken like that here (for the most part). Just differences in lingo.
