    For me, "auto" default was off, where your auto default is "on" (see the underline?). I had to go into settings somewhere to change mine to underline the "on" instead of the "off." I bet a lot of other folks have that problem and can't figure out why their smooth shading Auto doesn't match yours.

    As an anatomy enthusiast, I have to say that your ramdom mesh looks like a scapula from a four legged animal 🤩
    Btw your tips help me a lot with the issues I have encountered while sculpting ❤

    Hi Dave!
    Even when I set Smooth Shading to automatic, every time I insert a new shape, it appears without Smooth Shading. I have to go in and manually turn on the option for all new shapes.

    Thank for for this! I was wondering if this smoothing will show on a 3d print if exported to an stl file?

    • @drugfreedave
      @drugfreedave  Месяц назад

      My prints always printed smoothly, even when they looked like smooth shading was off in lychee slicer. So many printers and slicers it’s hard to say, but normally any texture I added stayed, otherwise prints were smooth!

    thank you so much!!! also your voice is so pleasant to listen to!
    also do you know how to increase the number of allowable megabytes of the project? I just noticed that you have almost 5000 MB but my projects can only be 2000 MB
    can this be changed in the settings? or does it depend on the amount of free memory on the iPad?
    sorry for language mistakes, English is not my native language

    • @drugfreedave
      @drugfreedave  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for the kind words!! :) I think that number is dependent on available RAM of the device. I'm using an ipad pro 2021, I don't usually have any issues working on projects..So I don't think about it much. However, have learned to keep the projects much lower polycount these days too!

    how did you get thoses extra tools on the right? like "smooth edge"?

  • @briannapetersen8401
    @briannapetersen8401 Год назад

    For some reason my smoothing only works half the time, it is on auto and usually after I subdivide it'll work but then I add clay and it wont smooth the clay any more. I am working on a leg and I added some clay for the knee cap and I can't make it not lumpy.

    • @drugfreedave
      @drugfreedave  Год назад

      Subdividing makes it more difficult to smooth. If I’m making a leg I’ll use let’s say two cylinders stretched, sand add a sphere for the knee. I’ll voxel merge them all at 200. If I need to smooth out more, I’ll remesh at a lower number. When I’m happy I may remesh higher to hold the shape

    • @drugfreedave
      @drugfreedave  Год назад

      Sometimes if you remesh some high res models together with low res, the low res ones may look funny. I’ll undo and subdivide once which might help. But ultimately the lower the voxel remesh the easier to smooth. I’ve also had someone say that smooth shading on auto was “off” for them. I keep mine on auto and it stays on

    I like your videos, and your voive also.. Maybe you should think about dooing some audio books 😊..but seriously: have you ever done any hard edge modeling for rocks? Like ppl do with zbrush, with nomad?

    I have to ask - i've gotten that red line a couple of times, but can't figure out how/why. Can you tell me what it's about? Thanks!

    • @drugfreedave
      @drugfreedave  Год назад

      the red symmetry line? That is the symmetry point of a selected object. So if symmetry is on, it'll mirror those areas. Each color line represents the symmetry line! Is that what you mean?

    • @tbray
      @tbray Год назад

      @@drugfreedave yes - i only saw it once, and i kind of assumed i had something turned on, but i couldn't figure out how i did it :D - thanks for clarifying.
