owls shouldn't ever be kept as pets. They are not domesticated animal. They clip their wings to stop them from flying which is cruel. They were born to fly free in the wild. They are carnivores as well so you'd have to feed them live rodents.

I worked with owls at a nature preserve for several years. You don't have to feed them live rodents; dead ones work just as well. If you live in the U.S, you have to have a permit for them since they're endangered. Clipping wings causes no pain to the animal, and is recommended in all birds that are kept as pets in the household; it keeps them safer...if you are worried about them not getting their wings stretched, there are exercises you can do to keep them healthy. And if you don't want their wings clipped, you'll have to do extra bird-proofing of your house to make sure they stay safe.

Owls really have big eyes don't they.
They're mostly nocturnal, hence the big eyes.
Altho, all owls rely on sound, some are better suited with it then others. Like the barn owl (#2), with the "cone" look to it's face. After all, you can't see mice in tall grass.

Never thought too much about owls, except for the fact that they are a very unique bird. I hear them a lot at night when I camp at the beach and I see their eyes with my flashlight.. They are very beautiful and seem to be quite receptive to humans once they realize there is no danger. Holding them by the feet seems to be a good way to control them. I will have to start considering an owl for a pet someday......they are beautifully funky.

I love the video. I volunteer at a wildlife rescue and have many experiences with owls. We rehab and release them. The first Great Horned I set free refused to leave. he circled back twice and had no intention of leaving. We returned him to the flight pen and maid him bond with other Owls and Not humans. He eventually went on his way. Sometimes they come back and visit and get within reach when we offer a rat for a mercy meal.
