I'm absolutely hyped about stem separation in the box. I feel like it's the first hardware to get that feature. I also think while it's "easier" to make a beat with stem separation, I'm all about accessibility. I think at the end of the day it's what the beat sounds like not how you got there an this will help folks get those ideas out faster
I'm excited for this coming to MPC standalone and I want to see it running on a Live 2 or MPC One with their 2GB of RAM. I have no doubt it's possible with some solid programming, but I'd still like to see how it performs. I'm stoked though and can't wait until it releases. Akai can have my money for this feature! I'm already thinking of ways it can work in my workflow!
stem seperation has been around a while. Akai is just now catching up so its nothing new. I still think taking stem seperation further is what is needed. Only one platform that I know of that can stem seperate the normal things, drums, vocals, bass etc, BUT then stem seperate your drums to kick, snare, hit hat... THAT is keeping step ahead
There’s only one guy online who disagrees with stems because he says the MPC live sounds different than the MPC 2000 XL yet hit songs have been made on computers 🤷🏾♂️
this is up to the individual, what type of music they make and their perspective of that genres culture. for me I will use when needed but prob not too much as there has to be some bleed through still. why is this a brag by akai though when Serato already does it and imo akai needs to work on their sonics. love my MPC but not really impressed… nothing new
I think I will have a similar approach. It will be fun to play around with but I’d like to think I’ll use it sparingly. As for the akai thing, I think it’s mainly because it’s making it available on hardware devices. It’s been around for a good few years on computers but bringing it to hardware will make the adaption a lot broader imo
Updates like this are really going to sting the SP community I think. The MPC platform seems a lot more future proof compared to the SP mainly thanks to the screen I think 🤔
I don't think this is a question of future proofiness 😅 The main thing you need is creativity. The SP303 is definitely outdated, but still there are a lot of people who make beats with it! But it's right: It would be killer to have stem separation on the mk2!
This will be a great addition for me as a drummer l will be able to remove and learn the drums so l can jam with the song much quicker. Hopefully this will do a better job than other softwares out there.
I don’t see stem separation as cheating at all. You’ll still need skills to listen and pick the right sample that is both interesting and works with the rest of the beat. But, until now, we had to skip many « gems » we found because there was no part of the record where they were isolated enough to turn it into an usable sample. Now this technology opens a new range of opportunities. From the previews we can hear, Akai’s algorithm produces an impressively good result, close to a multitrack recording. Of course we’ll need to see how it performs on different genres, mediums, or producing styles (hello loudness war era). As a teenager I never thought one day we would be able to "separate the ingredients once the cake is baked"…
I'm a bit meh about stems. I've had Ripx for a while and it's cool but the separation seems to vary from track to track. Also to me the stems don't sound as nice as sampling directly from vinyl. One thing I have started doing recently is putting my finished beat in it so I can do a final mix in my DAW, quicker than exporting all the single elements. It would be cool if somehow you were able to do this in the box but honestly there's a large list of things I'd rather have, key detection, sidechain, decent reverb, 202 emulator etc. Hoping this will spur Roland on to do a big update even if it doesn't include stems (although they could put it in the software).
Yeah RX7 is the same - has this kinda strange underwater sound to it. I found the same with Serato. Most of that can be masked by drums etc though. Roland need another big update this year for sure. Sidechain is a must at this point
Stem separation is great for DJs & beatmakers. I wished Akai would've brought option a few years ago. For the pricepoint...you can't go wrong. Great video!
I've played around with it a bit in serato and don't think it sounds that good. It kinda gives my samples a muffled underwater type sound. It can be masked with the drums a little but it needs a bit of work I think. Hope the MPC algorithms are better..!
I agree. Its been hit or miss for me. If I Sample something that is really clean it sounds great. But if you are sampling from youtube .. eh it dont sound good at all. And I really like to sample from youtube alot lol. @@spvidz
It could be useful but WHAT Akia should do is; have Automated Recording for the master channels. This so annoying as I would like to change Bpm and tweak effects on the master channel.
Will you be embracing stem separation or do you see it as ‘cheating’? Leave a comment below ⬇️
cheating but i am no saint haha
😂 I'll be installing it for sure
Aint no cheating, art is art its true expression

Can’t argue with that ma guy! 🙌

Yeah I’ll definitely be making the purchase. I am too interested to see what the processing times are like. The demo video didn’t give much away
I’ll gladly be paying for the upgrade when they drop the standalone version!
Nice man. I’ll be picking it up for sure. It’ll definitely get me back on the MPC 🙌
That feature is so dope!
Its going to be a gamechanger for me having that inside the MPC but I want to try and use it sparingly :)
You can already do it in Koala Sampler if you wanna play around in the meantime...
I need to get back on koala! It’s also in serato sample too 👍
@@spvidz yeah wouldn’t mind some Koala content - such a great app for the $ - cheers 🍻

I can see that happening at some point yup. Would be cool to go to that next level
With stem separation, we will probably have to enforce some kind of creative constraints, otherwise we will drown in the sea of possibilities.
Yup there are a lot of different ways it can be used, it’s going to be really interesting to see what affect it has on MPC based beat making
£9.00 available march 2024
Thanks for the info. I’ll certainly be picking it up 👌

There are lots of different approaches for making beats that's for sure. As long as we're creating and having fun that's the main thing 🙌
Koala has stems and is ok
I've not touched Koala for a while, I need to carry on the video series!
Oh there is way worse things going on in the “artistry of beat making” then stem separation.
lol true enough

mk2 needs a competing update. This is big

Nice! Yeah I think my main usercase will be removing drums 👍

That’s a cool way of looking at it!
"El futuro llegó, hace rato..."
We'll have to get used to living with that. It is the future
Been doing this by stem separating in fl and putting chops on 404
Nice. I need to try that with serato sample !

i have rip x for this job but its good too see its made it way to mpc
Yeah really exciting to see it hit hardware!
Not cheating. Serato did add it as a free update.
But I’m still getting it. It will be worth it if it sounds better than serato.
