For me, the eloquence speech synthesizer is the best. I especially like the child voice too. That one was so cute, adorable. Miss you, JAWS.

Appreciate the demonstration, but I feel it would’ve been a better and more accurate demonstration if it was done by a blind or visually impaired person who is going to use it the way it is meant to be used. You’re still using your eyes and using the mouse.

The point is that you would too -- use the mouse -- I did that to cut the length. Using screenreaders is a slow process for most beginners. When an expert blind person demos Jaws, they often go so fast that they leave beginners in the dust. The purpose was to train sighted users in disability offices and not a beginner who is blind.

Points of Access with Phillip White Hi Phil, thanks for the video. I feel the last commenter gave good feedback simply because it didn’t say so in the title. That said, as a blind jaws user, it is definitely obvious to me where you are coming from.
Agree re icons ish. I do have folders on my desktop, bit where possible, not many. Agree with navigating documents.
It would be a great thing if you could make a follow up explaining how to use the keyboard for a blind user so the trainer could demo it to a mew user. I have trained a fellow blind journalist in final cut video editor. I promise I didn’t leave them in the dust, honest.
If anyone is reading... when Jaws is running, hit insert J or on a laptop with keyboard layout on laptop, hit caps lock J if you prefer. Then alt for the menu. Then basics or voices and tab around until you get to the speaking rate. Page jp speeds up, page down, slows down.
Jaws is a great product, jist stupidly over the top to buy or scripting.
Also btw, and it’s only my workflow (others will vary() I type 120words per minute, personally prefer to echo characters, but as you say, a great tip and think the video is great.

Is there a way to make Jaws skip a particular character, i.e. , () parentheses.

Where is the jaws basics for beginners part one totally blind learners! My name is Steve Mendez I am totally blind watching via my iPhone 8 on RUclips I’ve only been blind a few years and it seems either you already know how to use jaws and jump right in or you just have to live with the frustration of very few people showing you how to use it from a blind aspect this video may be helpful if you are a teacher trying to help a blind student but if you have no access to an instructor like myself then I am still just stuck trying to figure this out from a beginners point

how on earth do you think we blind people bee able to use the windows mouse cursor. this video was little help for jaws. and the desktop is the nr.1 saving spot. also, the zoom and on-screen-text don't help us or som. all you need to use are ONLY hotkeys. and jaws are not that good in 2018 the good one now is NVDA, windows narrator and Voice Over (also they are free) instead of ~2000NOK.
and Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 or 8.1 is not a good option for the build people, so I and my friends use windows 10 os system because it is the os now that are best at visual help. macOS is the best of all solutions because of the Voice Over.

I changed the title and description so that it will be more appropriately listed for those who have vision and are learning Jaws.

This isn't a part 1 basic. A basic should start with how to open it and the main features. Also your intro is just a bit over the top.

I agree, beginners instruction should start from opening or starting from which ever you are using the laptop or desktop and learning from the desktop how to navigate the desktop etc. I am totally blind I have only been blind a few years and I have yet to find anyone that would start from the beginning and let me do it myself as opposed to jumping right in and starting for my particular program and once they leave I have no idea even how to start the computer and log into the computer because it seems like they always do it for me.
