despite being obviously very silly, this has always stood out to me as a rather beautiful song about two atrocious people that share a deep, genuine love for each other. i can’t help but get goosebumps at the line “sam was a disaster, every time she smiled his heart still flipped” every time i hear it. it just goes to show how immensely talented neil is as a storyteller and songwriter no matter the subject matter

we had an "ok boomer" song back in 2006
I made some warrior cats OCs based on this song last year. They were an elder couple named Sam and Rosefeather. A couple apprentices were basically bullying Sam for being born a kittypet, so Rosefeather murdered them while no one was watching because she loves her husband
Here's something I found in a somewhat old google doc:
Sam is a fluffy light cream former kittypet tom with blue eyes and a torn ear. His owner actually named him Samuel but called him Sam so much Sam never realized. Rosefeather is a lilac she cat with a scared muzzle, scarred shoulder, scarred back leg and hazel eyes. Both are elders. They fell in love when Rosefeather was an apprentice and brought Sam to her clan as a young warrior, both serving their clan well (though Sam mostly sticks to hunting) until they are old enough to retire.
Though the clan didn’t have many problems with Sam, the new apprentices have started picking on him, leaving his moss longer than it should be and being extra rough when pulling out fleas. Rosefeather is outraged when she notices and reports to the leader immediately, though they just say “it’s just kits being kits, leave them be.” So when they come by and bluntly insult him while camp is almost completely empty, she decides a few less apprentices wouldn’t hurt. Who’d expect a sweet old couple?

When I become older, I want to be in a relationship with someone I can share my disgust with, who gets me and doesn't judge me for it. I know that ideally, we should all strive to adapt to new trends, culture, and fashion and tech as we age, but even as a kid I used to be a boomer at heart (somehow; I'm 25). But this is so romantic to me. If Neil is making fun of Samuel and Rosella, he failed hard, because he made them sound awesome. Holding each other's hands while holding an umbrella to impale it through a wannbemo's chest just looks and sounds funny.

I think it’s just a literal story about an elderly couple who kill teens, no deeper meaning
i have a theory that it's a song depicting how generations can become annoying and harmful to others. I.E the recent wave of baby boomers thinking millenials and gen z's are lazy. or maybe just how some people cannot handle change at all and will go through great lenghts to stop it, in my opinion at least. But yea it might also just be a song about old people not giving a shit, who knows.
Lemon Demon does a lot of exploration of absurd characters with absurdly specific quirks, desires, and identities.
This is a song looking at an old sweet couple that has a common "kids these days" outlook and taking that to its absurd extreme. Neil juxtaposes the cute old couple with impaling hot topic kids and blowing up the mall.
The author is dead tho and am sure Neil would encourage people to look at the lyrics and derive their own meaning/point to the tale of Samuel & Rosella

It’s a bonus track! You can put it on spotify yourself though if you use local files. (Use a youtube to mp3 website with this video on a computer, and then u can turn on local files on Spotify. If u want the song to be on both ur pc and phone, u have to have both devices on Spotify and on the same WiFi network.) I hope this helps!!! :)
