Nancy gave a masterclass of how you play with three attackers.
Exactly, he's using some type of magical fairy dust to have this type of disciplined performance out of a paltry MLS roster that is $5 million outside of the Designated Players.
@MichaelWalker-wu2pq it's actually more like 10-11 million with GAM and TAM money, but still small.
As a crew fan, there’s something different about this team. It’s Nancyball.
I watch tons of soccer, but when I watch the crew it’s just a step above tactics wise. I’ve never seen a team so in sync with one another. (I’m a Milan fan and Nancy is 3x the manager Pioli is)
Football ^
That was the nicest Seb's ever spoken about the Crew. Don't know how I feel about that. I'm used to them making him look foolish.
For CCL/CCC
2004-2010 4 MLS teams made semifinals. 0 made finals.
2011-2017 7 MLS teams made semifinals. 2 made finals.
2018-2024 10 MLS teams made semifinals.5 made finals.
The big picture is the league is getting there.
Nah, CONCACAF just pumps in MLS teams to get more money and to bluff that they league is good. Yeah, im sure if you shove a bunch of teams from any league they would also make the semi finals.
Don’t forget 1996-2003 2 winners from mls (dc 98 lag 01 I think) but yes we need to win this tournament back to back before we can even say we have the upper hand.
And this is all while still being hampered by the salary cap, which should go up this year.
Columbus crew play beautiful
MLS hasn't, but the Crew has
I’m a huge MLS fan, but no. Not until we consistently win this tournament.
You’re not a fan so who is “we”?
@@churn_diesel who are you to say who is and who isnt a fan 🤣
I agree but liga Mx and MLS should start the season at the same time. That way all tournaments are at the same point in time for both leagues.
@@nappymclovincompletely misread the op lol. My bad.
@branayala2625 weather is a big factor liga mx should do away with the two tournaments
Did LAFC even beat a Liga MX team last year? Could’ve swore they played a Costa Rican team, whitecaps, Philly, then lost to León.
Your correct. They had an extremely easy path to the final. Then when they met a good team, they lost. It's also stupid the final was two legs. That was also the same tournament Austin lost the series to Violette. Which a few players don't play full time lol. Some guys had other jobs. It was awesome seeing as a crew fan. The team only had 3 subs on the bench and I think 7 players were not able to travel to the States. It was also the first time in over a year they played an actual game. It's probably one of the biggest upsets in concacaf
Credit to Columbus. They were undeniably superior. Now, they’re talking about MLS vs. LigaMX and comparing performances in this tournament. They fail to mention that in THIS edition MLS had almost double the representatives and all those that faced LigaMX opposition (except Crew) dropped like flies. Cincinnati, Vancouver, Philadelphia, New England, Miami, and Orlando 6 MLS teams fell directly vs LigaMX (same number as the total LigaMX representatives) vs 2 MLS wins. That’s a 6-2 score in favor of LigaMX with only the final game remaining to be played.
Columbus plays well, but they still haven’t won it! They still have to win the final. It’ll be a good match.
The thing is that MLS is trending upwards while LigaMX and Mexican football in general is trending downwards. How long until MLS dominates the Concacaf Champions cup? 3 years from now? 5 Years from now? It's going to happen eventually.
I hope they don't dominate but just even out. I want all Concacaf teams to grow.
Not exactly. The Mexican youth teams are super talented and have experience. But the league is a cash cow regardless. Its just marred with backroom deals and corruption. But thats how its always been.
@@wifi961 who cares if mls dominates concacaf. We still have mls cup and the world club cup or whatever it’s called
MLS is not consistently winning, especially in Mexico yet, but they are getting better. They will keep getting better from top to bottom too. MX's top teams will keep spending more to stay in the upper level, but the lower level of the LigaMX will lag behind, like the European leagues. Both need to get better together though.
Hopefully they do. The reason why mexican league is in decrease is because it has no competition. Its about time mls stepped up and provided some good competition in order to force liga mx to become better.
Tano Ortiz is the Doc Rivers of Liga MX, look what happened in apertura vs San Luis. Period point blank, Nancy is the Erik Spoelstra of MLS, he doesn't have the best roster, but he knows how to maximize his players.
Columbus is the gold standard of MLS, easily incredible
Not at all. Columbus Crew is an anomaly. They are an incredible exception to the rule.
MLS is not better than Liga MX and they won't be until they raise the salary cap to something respectable like $15 million and loosen some of the roster restrictions.
The MLS won't emerge before a more matured football culture emerges in America mate. The league has come on leaps and bounds since it's inception, as demonstrated by the increasing numbers of US pros playing in European leagues such as the Premier League, Bundesliga etc. But therein lies the issue, until the culture forms and makes US football more financially comparable and pack out stadiums on every matchday like with the big Leagues across the pond your brightest talents will continue to be pulled away from your clubs. Still, there's benefits to your national side in being a supply side footballing country as your players are exposed to the best training and practices in the World. Many of those players will become the future generations of coaches carrying that experience into your domestic clubs and national team. Most of Brazil and Argentina's international players are European based, and they don't do too bad at the game.
@darthwiizius I'm not suggesting MLS would ever compete against the top 5 soccer leagues in the world over in Europe. They still could be a dominant league in this region if they simply go to at least $15 million in salary cap and loosen their arcane roster restrictions.
@@MichaelWalker-wu2pq
Never say never mate, if you do keep pushing up your standards it'll push up standards in the rest of North America with you, after that there's no saying where you end up. When Americans embrace something fully they become damned enthusiastic about it, sometimes that's all it takes to push you over the top at the final hurdle. It's not going to be an overnight thing though.
@@darthwiizius If we could ever be solidly between the 5th and 10th league, aiming for... sixth? Maybe? Be the best league on this side of the planet? ...I'd take that.
@@dovonovich
I think that's achievable mate, I used to watch MLS back in the 90s (late matches from the Netherlands and the US back to back were played in full in the early hours on a UK channel (5) back then) and TBH the MLS was kind of embarrassing where now it's a mid tier league ahead of most (if not all) Asian and Oceania leagues, African leagues etc. The MLS is vastly better now than it was back then. When you get parity with all the leagues in the Americas you will be automatically somewhere around your target, after South America there are only European Leagues to catch up to, and you'll be competitive with most. The 5 plus the Dutch, Portuguese and maybe the Belgian Leagues would be your next targets.
Guys don’t call it too early… you have to lift the trophy first…being consistent and get used to win it … still it’s more like a bombastic surprise than a new normal…
If Wilfried Nancy can help lead Columbus to the Concacaf CL title he would jump on to my list of possible USMNT coaches.
Honestly I would love that like Williford to coach the usmnt I mean why not considering he's got Columbus Crew playing some good soccer and punching above their weight in the CCL I mean he would be a lot better than Greg but at the same time I don't think he take the job he just signed a contract extension but who knows maybe in the future maybe in 2030 he's our coach or after the World Cup of 2026
Then the MLS is making progress. On another subject you talked about last night. You could argue that the MLS could continue to expand a few more teams just based on the country's size and cities' population compared to all of Europe (not counting Russia).
Agreed. I feared there would be too much, too many... but now? It's interesting... Indy, Phoenix, Detroit? Maybe another Canadian team? It's interesting.
When talking about LMX's domination, you have to split competitions between which leagues are in season. The MLS has often had to go to Mexico in the preseason, when LMX is if full game shape.
That’s not our fault buddy. Let’s see what your guys excuse is this time when Pachuca beats Columbus who is now in full shape
@@josepadilla9159 not everybody wins every game? What will be your excuse when Columbus beats Pachuca?
The MLS and American soccer have a far greater potential for growth and development than the Mexican league.
The Mexican league has always been very self contained and poorly administered, for that they have reached a ceiling of development.
if the people running the MLS are smart and take this opportunity (having messi, the copa america and world cup), it's the perfect time to boost the MLS to new heights.
I mean if Miami doesn’t mess up that first game it would of been Miami vs crew
The opening graphic is false, Seattle Sounders invented beating two Liga MX teams without taking a loss on the road.
They got super lucky against Tigers!
Couldn’t help but notice that Monterrey had a very nice and clean field. Guess they hired a new landscaper since they played Inter Miami. 🤔 Wouldn’t want a disadvantage after losing in the first leg.
Mls is a great ligue.
Yes it is.
Having the best team in MLS compete with Liga MX is an exception and not the rule. There's still way to go.
Hercules no tubo tiempo de ir laundry ,se puso unos shorts que tenia olvidados vajo el sofa y se ve muy sospechoso
In terms of total points accumulated from international competitions, Liga MX still has a stranglehold on the top 3 spots. MLS is making moves further down the list. MLS as a whole has picked up Way more points in total and moved far more teams up in the rankings. This is a process, and steps one and two have been accomplished. Step three is to take over those top spots, though, and it will take awhile to get anyone in there.
It's coming, though. We can say we did it when those top three spots are ours. Right now though, Liga MX has those spots and there's a long distance between third and fourth place.
I’m a crew fan and you can’t say that the crew were last mls team standing we need to be able to compete more consistently then you can maybe say it l.
I'm a crew fan and believe in the Crew .But I have to admit I'm super nervous about being 7,000 ft above sea level. How do you overcome that?
Train in Denver since its similar altitude
How many sea-level teams win at Pachuca? Reminds of when FIFA banned Boliva playing in their super high altitude stadium. The average team looked very good there because the other team could not breath.
I dont believe MLS has toppled LIGA MX until we see 50% or greater MLS teams entering the semi finals for 2 or more consecutive years. Once we see this, I will say that yes. A lot of MLS teams lost this year, that can’t happen if you want to turn the tide.
That commentator was about to start crying. MLS is getting there. Takes time.
As a league, definitely not and by a long shot. Are a few teams making a breakthrough, yes.
Crew have been playing well, but they still have one more CONCACAF game. Focus on that.
C-Bus is just Blue Collar Toronto. And TFC ended up losing to CDG in a very poor form
I think mls is bigger at this point between inter Miami and the continuation of new teams
Zip it Ricky joker 😂😂😂
No not at all not till it’s a consistent thing year by year but we are closing the gap. Hate how pundits over hype our league it’s still no where near where it should be
dumb question... how is it determined where each leg is played? It just seems like the 2nd leg is always in Mexico... TIA
In the semifinals, the winner of 1-vs-8 faces the winner of 4-vs-5, with the 1-vs-8 winner hosting the second leg, and likewise 2-vs-7 plays 3-vs-6, with the 2-vs-7 winner hosting the second leg. In the finals, the team that prevails out of the upper bracket of 1-8-4-5 hosts the second leg.
From the beginning of the knock out round, the teams earn 3 points per win and 1 point per draw after 90 minutes. The team with more accumulated points plays the 2nd leg at home. In this case, most Mexican teams won more points than the MLS teams throughout the tournament, therefore earning them playing the 2nd leg in home soil. And the final will be played in Pachuca because they earned more points than Columbus throughout the tournament.
I still hate the carabiner in a trash can logo. Love the crew, but that logo has to go.
No argument here, I want it to return to the 1st crest personally.
I love Columbus but their previous crest is much better.
No because every mls team except Columbus got turned over by liga mx teams
So far I've enjoyed this Columbus Crew I never would have thought they be in the final like I knew they could make it to the final but I never thought they went on a Leverkusen run to the final you know
Imagine trying to retcon having a garbage league with violent fans and help from every Hispanic ref in federation play by claiming it's a fluke
Great win! However, the "First MLS club to advance against two LMX teams without losing in the 2nd legs on the road" stat is really obscure. Kind of grasping at straws with that one.
Ehhhh, it's notable though? It's quite the feat. Deserves a little attention, at least.
That's a trick question, with multiple answers depending on exactly how one defines a league as superior.
Top to bottom, club versus club, it's close. I can abide an argument in either direction.
In terms of history, pedigree, and the importance of each league within its home country's sporting landscape, there's no question that Liga MX is by far the bigger fish.
If it's a question of league trajectory, MLS is far better.
If it's a question of global importance and prestige, club value, television rights revenue, desirability as a destination for high value incoming transfers, and success of outbound transfers in top European leagues, MLS is again by far the better of the two.
Simply saying one is better than the other without clarification of precise meaning, is a reckless and lazy argument.
first you have to defeat the only good couch in the entire Mx Ligue. Columbus defeated the most expensive teams in Mx. Pachuca is worth half of that, you will get it.
Sorry Pachuca is completely different animal
Tiger tamers can handle lions too.
Yes, when your sea-level opponent can't breath, it helps!
Lol, if you say so...
No.
MLS has not toppled LIGA MX yet until Columbus beat Pachuca in the final.
Won't do it because they won't be able to breath!
Seattle won it. How is Columbus making history?
...it was crazy. 9 minutes is up. move on. TF
Mexico should totally give up on winning anything, MLS and US soccer program was started wayyyy later than Mexico's but US is already ahread.
I thought Messis Inter Miami just got spanked by Monterrey ? 5-2 aggr. ?
@@logirex congratulations they beat a team full of washed Barca players
Meanwhile the US beats Mexico often and it’s not even the US’s top sport
Give Mexico the we beat a relegation MLS team trophy. I also remember Mexicans celebrating a win against Barcelona in a friendly in the middle of the season despite Barcelona only caring about the money
@@logirexthat was their biggest achievement in 2024.😂😂😂😂.
They don't play to win this trophy 😂😂😂.
Winning miami was cinqo de mayo for them. 😂😂😂😂
They were stomping messi jersey and dancing
They were saying referee is going to help miami and miami played down to 10 men both legs.
Columbus crew taught them a good lesson.
They really whoop them really good. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Mejor ligue is Vera and Vera ligue to Mx.
MLS: has every single qualified team except 1 get eliminated by MX without a single game win.
Columbus: Does well.
Everyone for some reason: “MLS IS BETTER THAN MX CONFIRMED.”
That’s like if the #1 Champions league team was able to beat multiple Premier league teams, then claiming that it must mean that Premier League is actually inferior to the Champions League.
COLUMBUS seems to be better than MC. Be happy for them for doing so well against a tough league. But ppl have to stop coping and trying to apply that to the entire league. It just looks desperate.
That's like when the MLS just started and 1 LMX player made as much as the entire MLS team but DC and LA won the cup under the old format. You should have heard the excuses. So LMX had the format changed and made sure they get to play in midseason form , reason they said they were losing to MLS teams, and now the MLS plays the knockout round, you know better teams, when they have only 0 - 2 games played.
Toppled? Liga MX have knocked out how many teams? Also, let's not pretend that Concacaf does everything to money grab with any Mexico vs USA competitions they can make. To do this they have to make us believe that MLS is just as good as Liga MX. Least not pretend that CONCACF pumps in MLS teams into this competition.
USL is better than MLS I said it 🤣🤣🤣
C’mon man it’s just one game chiiilll😂. I’m no Liga MX defender but did everyone just forget what has happened in past champions leagues? No, forget past champions leagues has everyone forgotten what happened in the quarter finals right before this😂
When LA FC got to the final against Leon I heard a lot of mls fans say that they were one of the greatest MLS sides of all time, then they ended getting beaten and humiliated (in the first leg) by an incredibly mediocre Leon team
Same thing with Seattle full credit to them for winning it but that pumas side they faced in the final was one of the worst versions of pumas I have seen in the past 10 years
Hay yay. Get out Spanish journalist from mls ligue.
They open destroy everything
No sirve la liga mx.
no excusas
Crew are good, Rayados played like dog water.
Wow these guys haven't even won the final yet and we're crowning them? What headline will do and excuses make if they lose? Sports media these days.
"Leverkusen of Ohio"
I absolutely love it
I mean they're both garbage
As a Crew fan, I don't understand this mentality of MLS vs Liga MX. I care about the Crew winning, and as far as I'm concerned the Crew are better than every team in Liga MX at this point. They have to come on the field and prove they are better than the Crew. If Pachuca wins then it'll probably be because they deserve it but I don't see how they could be favored going into the final. The Crew should be the favorite. I will never understand this group mentality either side has. Are you a Liga MX fan or a Chivas fan? Would you root for America to win this championship? Why? Why would FC Cincinnati root for the Crew? That's stupid.
It doesn't matter both leagues are trash.
eat it.
What league do you like?
One of the ones where only 3 - 4 teams have a chance to win the title and have oil money that could care
less about making a profit?
Liga Mx is a garbage league
