  • Oman is expected to roll out personal income tax, making it the first country in the GCC to do so, some time next year.
This comes after the kingdom’s Shura Council advanced the draft law to the State Council. Since the bill is nearing the end of its legislative approvals, it is likely to be introduced in 2025. The initial bill was drafted back in 2020.
Analysts expect other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to also introduce the personal income tax, however, not in the near future.

It is not impacting Oman much but if UAE introduces personal income tax then tens of thousands of expacts that moved to UAE to run away from the high taxes of EU will move to another country. If I have to pay 10% in UAE then I will move to Bulgaria, it has a lovely nature, much lower cost of living and much better weather all year round. And that was only one example. Personal income tax will be the end of UAE and it will cause the real estate market to collapse.

Better to introduce tax than disguise it in the form of high expenses
