Christ he’s good, mannerisms, everything! If they ever make another film that Morrissey signs off on he’s going to be hard to beat!!

I'd never heard of Jack Lowden before seeing this film, but he was excellent as Morrissey.
(Curious how the bass-line is the same as Rusholme Ruffians.)

haha come on, every Moz fan knows the film was good and Jack did a fantastic job. Jack even said in a Q&A that I was in that he didn't even know that much about Morrissey before he did the film. More credit to him. And the movie was also the director's first feature film. It's a love letter to Moz, the Smiths, and their fans.

I've always loved the Smiths/Moz since I was a teen in 80's Chicago, but it was never really compounded just how similar our lives mirrored each other's until I watched this film. From the social alienation and inability to relate, growing up in stultifying blue-collar culture and Catholicism, shite home life, love of early 60's music and aesthetic, unrelenting bullying, unrequited love, acerbic writing and disdain, even the HOUSE he grew up in was the same type and layout (semi-detached, or "duplex"; a very rare English style in Chicago, albeit mine was next to an airport with railroad tracks behind). Parallel lives? One wonders.

He nailed it. Not only the sound, but the performance, how you believe it's Morrissey that's nervous and what he's nervous about; a man singing a song about another man, one of his first live performances. How he moves and how he throws out something into the audience. How he looks for encouragement at 0:47. Excellent stuff. Still haven't seen this.

This is like I was hearing Morrissey singing Rusholme Ruffians (I think that was the intention) When I saw the film I was so impressed by his voice, he made a good voice of young Morrissey.

You should give it a chance. A bunch of scenes made me laugh, and one actually made me cry (and I'm not one to easily cry with movies). If you're a Morrissey or Smiths fans you'll probably be disappointed as there isn't any music by him/them, and the movie ends right when the "story begins", as in you don't get to see the "celebrity" part of it, only Steven's life before he became "Morrissey". Now, I'm not a Morrissey/Smiths fan, so that wasn't an issue to me.
Maybe it isn't your typical movie in which you have the whole arc of a character's life, or a super intense plot and ending. For the most part, you're basically watching a young man struggling to overcome his shyness and anxiety and fears and do what he really wants to do. But Jack does a terrific job at portraying that, and the script has some really good lines, so if you've ever felt like that in your life, you'll most likely feel a connection with the character (plus he's at the same time very cynic, if only to mask his shyness, so his interactions with others are very funny).
Sorry for the long comment and weighing in, lol, just wanted to suggest you gave it a chance ;)
