Since y'all got that other plot of land..i prayed for you to get extra good harvest. Y'all work so hard. This weather is just a strain so much and hot.. love y'all very much. Bless your hearts.. take care. You look so sweet chatting on here. Wanda does too. I watched last Saturday night. I really enjoyed it. I hardly get to watch it all.. we don't garden and it's been busy in the family things.
That is pretty cool .. the corn that we grow is an Osage native heirloom corn - perfect for here, because HERE is where it came from (technically, it came from a place a little North East of here, then spread all across Mesoamerica, but this is the oldest intact germplasm of zea mays that I could find) 90 days from seed to maturity, lets us grow 2 crops per year. It doesn't have any yellow genes, I had to look this up - those appeared in the 19th century and were bred by a fellow from Massachusetts named William Chambers. I was surprised the first time I tasted flour corn in the milk stage - it is sweet, with a more complex flavor than ordinary sweet corn, and since we had such a horrible time trying to grow sweet corn on the prairie, I thought that was an excellent quality. Now I don't see any need to grow a sweet corn at all - just eat what you can fresh, and dry the rest for hominy, tamales and tortillas. I'll send the folks looking for the yellow stuff your way 😊
My pack, just 1 - didn't want to be greedy, came in Wednesday to NW Florida. The funny thing is that I'm going to plant it in MS, near DSH, in McHenry. lol I also have a pack I bought several years ago, I'm going to try both packs on my 40 acres.
Thank you for taking us along with you as we watched you grow your corn. Praise Jesus you got a fine harvest. You teach us so much with all these videos and we can go back and watch them again if we miss anything. You two are the best.
Thanks so much for sharing, Danny on how to grow Danny Corn. I'm looking forward to growing some. I appreciate how and when to fertilize. I plan to grow and save seeds for the following year. Will be good for my chickens as well as grinding for cornmeal, flour and grits. You had some marvelous Danny Corn this year and it was great to see what you built to dry the corn too. Thank you again for sharing this information. The Lord's blessings to you and Wanda.
Danny one day I hope I can get some of your Danny corn. Having a hard time after my son passed Aug 17-2023 ❤❤❤👍👍👍. I will get threw this with the love of my God. 🙏
Thank you for sharing how to do this properly. I've watched your other videos and grew dent corn for the first time this year. It still has another 18 days to go where I live. Praying for the Lords help everyday.
I watched the last live stream all the way to the end right after I went to web and been trying to buy some seeds can't find them thank you for sharing your videos sure enjoy them. Stay healthy and God bless
Danny, for an experiment next year:set aside a small patch to grow Danny Corn with no fertilizer and keep those survivor seeds separate. After a year or two you will ween the seed genetics off the easy fertilizer. In the near future the probability is high that fertilizer will not be available or it's just too high priced for most homesteaders to acquire -- plus it generally reduces growing costs even if the fertilizer is plentiful, you won't need it. ... As far as the Smut fungus, Reid's Yellow Dent (which I think sets up the base of your DC) is more susceptible to it than other corn varieties. I grew Reid's last year and saw quite a bit. This year I have all red/blue/purple heirlooms in a landrace and haven't seen smut on any yet.

Good morning Danny and Wanda, beautiful for harvest this year is right. I just received my corn seed and I’m so proud, can’t wait to plant next year. ❤
Thanks for the seed. I only ordered one pack and received it yesterday. That will be plenty for me to be able to save seed from. I have been planting hickory cane (not hickory king) for the past few years. So I will be good on corn for next year. I bought a pound of the hickory cane from a lady in Tennessee whose family had been growing the corn on their family farm for over 100 years. It has done well for me. I am excited about trying the Danny Corn.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm saving it for when we plant corn next year! I haven't caught the Danny Corn on Etsy as of yet. Hopefully there will be some more packets available. We would hill up dirt as the corn grew to cover the roots.

My Danny Corn was amazing til we were attacked by grasshoppers this summer. My corn leaves were shredded & the little buggers ate the silk off. 😢. Mine got 12' tall. I'll be trying again. My question is I know you have fire ants like we do in Texas. They were all over my corn before the grasshoppers got it. Do you have issues with fire ants eating the corn once kernels are forming?

It sells out in minutes.
@@DeepSouthHomestead then how do I know when it’s on the store, any way to get a notification?
How do you check the ph of your field
I started taking notes in a spiral notebook
I send of a soil sample to get it checked.
I'm watching on Etsy but no Danny corn. 😢
We put it up and it's bought in minutes. Set the notification for the Etsy store when we put them up you will know.
@@DeepSouthHomestead how do I do that? It's isn't showing anything about Danny corn. 😔
@@tammycrawford1221 Email me deepsouthhomestead and I'll show you.
Watched😂
My Danny Corn was amazing til we were attacked by grasshoppers this summer. My corn leaves were shredded & the little buggers ate the silk off. 😢. Mine got 12' tall. I'll be trying again. My question is I know you have fire ants like we do in Texas. They were all over my corn before the grasshoppers got it. Do you have issues with fire ants eating the corn once kernels are forming?
Some but it's not a big problem.
