this whole scene was so ridiculous to watch. you dont need to use the key to open the clio, you dont need to put the key in, you dont need to use launch control get off. they just tried too hard to fuck this car up. If they hat put it in manual and race they could have shifted gears easily. so far they didnt had any idea how to use the car proper.

Oh... how times change. 😆 The problem is they dont have a mechanism to shift quickly between Reverse and forward gears. Can't pull off J-turns with an automatic shifter.
@@achilleas_christ9136 I'd avoid a 2013. Post facelift are more reliable (late 2015 onwards). You can tell the difference between pre and post facelift from their front bumper style.
I hate the Clio, it looks ugly and it has the most hopelessly stupid gearbox which is atrocious and its utterly wayward and its also I strongly despise Renault
The clio lost in the second challenge due to user error. Perhaps if Tiff tried to be less exuberant while doing the setup, he wouldn't have to redo some of the settings.
I haven't driven that car but having driven a few modern cars, they are increasingly being dominated by pointless, complicated technology. Everything is "automatic" or "haptic" etc, there are touchscreens where basic functions that could be done with one button require three presses, there are suspension modes, gearbox modes etc etc, it's horrific compared to a sports car of the 90s and early 2000s in particular.
I agree they should have practiced it better, and put the clio in race mode, but the point they were trying to make is valid, it's a fat overweight car with too many silly electronics, and should have been manual. Period. Auto or paddle hot hatch is no hot hatch at all. Does it even need three modes? No, no it doesn't. It's a stupid car and they exaggerated that. All car journalists felt the same way.

As someone who owns one. They’re not the most reliable unless you get a face lift 2015+ model but they are so much fun and incredibly underrated. Amount of times I’ve been on the motorway and someone tried racing me without actually realising what they’re capable of is unbelievable
@@adamstanford9998 water pump, weaker bottom end and KO3 turbo whilst face lift have the KO3S. Also chain tensioner is known for going on pre facelifts. Mines just gone and in need it replacing Edit: I’ve definitely missed a few but also clutch release bearing is one
He didn't have a clue what he was doing with the clio's traction control, don't need to hold the button twice, just start it out it in manual and hold the sport button and it automatically goes to race mode. I could have done that in half the time
So in fact the clio was the fastest in the second test because it left at 35 seconds. And was also behind held back at the end of that part. The first test with only 1 mile speed difference I would like to see again. So I really dont get why the rs is not in the final.
That’s the whole point, it left later because the time begins from running to the car, turning on, sports mode etc. All 3 were tested the same, the Clio might off got a better time if it was more simple to drive.

So it's a little more involved to engage a few features? What difference will that make on a track day if all three were in their sportiest settings prior to the flag dropping? None.

@@skylined5534 funny you mention Tesla - did you know that the launch control on the S Plaid takes so long that in a drag race it's competitor has to let it line up first, as when the last car lines up to the start the time it takes for the lights to go green is less than the S Plaid's launch control activation time (which you have to be stationary for)
In this segment of cars, the badges are about equal, if not tipping the scales in favour of the Renault and Peugeot considering their hot hatch history.
Just goes to show that in this weight class, 170/180bhp is a sweetspot. 20 extra horses don't really do anything under a 100mph. I've got a fiesta ST150 with mountune's mp165 package, so 165bhp and 200nm, and i've timed my 1/4 mile with the dragy timer, and managed 93mph in 15.3 seconds. Just 0.2 behind carwow's (2x times) 15.1 for the new mk8 fiesta ST. 😄👍
I disagree we only get the three door in my country and i'de rather have the 5 door version for practicality ! Although the three door looks a bit better

I had a first gen focus 3 door, and my ex had the 4 door, our friends always wanted to ride in my 3 door because, though it's a little harder to get in and out of there, it was much more roomy in the 3 door back seat once you were there.

Avoid the Renault, its a terrible car and its completely slow and also they use cheap materials and they are hysterically terrible and the idea of having a flappy paddle gearbox hatchback is laughable
i'm looking into getting one of these as my 2nd car. Well my list is these 3 in the vid (but maybe a clio renaultsport 197 with a regular gear box), as well as a corsa vxr (I like their shape the most!). Any thoughts? I'm not a car person at all and don't know anything, but it seems that the ST always gets a solid review. Although I don't think it looks as nice as any of the others (even though there's not a massive difference in looks between any of them really). Being that i've only been driving a little while, are any of them much kinder on insurance and or tax? (which might influence my decision). Anyone driven all of them and has a clear preference?? thanks
I have an ST but can't comment on the rest. The ST is brilliant. If you get one put Coilovers on it, it's the icing on the cake. The standard set up is quite harsh.

Fiesta is the best car here without a shadow of a doubt, mate of mine had the Peugeot and it fell apart on him, luckily it was still in warranty. And the gearbox in that clio makes it a no go, for me at least. Bought an ST last week and it’s fantastic. Also they neglect to mention that the fiesta has 200bhp in 3rd gear and above on overboost

Like all motor shows of the time they wanted to punish Renault for removing the stick and adding a turbo, even though in most normal tests it was the winner. Launch control into a corner was particularly painful though, we get it - you wanted a long time.

@@nickblundell9990 i think it was just the reaction to it being completely different to what the RS purists were used to before; no more 2 doors, now it was a 4 door only; no more high revving n/a 4-bangers with all the power at the top, but now it was a turbo lump with fat and flat torque curve that didn't rev high, no more manual but a DCT with paddles and 3 different driving modes; Yes it was different but it wasn't bad and i think time will prove that; that's why I said that Chris Harris Drive review was the closest truth to what Clio IV RS 200 is - a realy good small hot hatch

If this Clio was made today, people would honestly love it. I personally don't care that it has no manual or 2 door version because it still is a very fun and fast car, it was simply more grown up and easier to live with, much like the ones today like the VW Golf R and Mercedes-AMG A 45 S. Both of these cars have the same 2 things the Clio introduced back then, 4 doors only and dual-clutch in a hot hatch.
crazy. people hating again on renault there. why did they take so long to get in the car? they stupid and needed too long, keyless entry, keyless start, had to drive one and it was like my Renaults before. so defenately nothing that could take that long. about the sports mode - i am not sure if it takes so long, it could, but still, there is hate about the Renault. Also about the mph to reach first: - a car that has better traction at the beginning has a better time to come across the line, not the highest speed. - the peugeot had spinning wheels, so he had a worse start, but of course a higher speed at the end. - you cant compare that
I get the dual clutch isnt perfect for james bond turns - but this "putting it in sport mode and launch control" was so dumb. Dual Clutch, just floor it and i will go :D P.S: i know this test is 8 years old.

I have GTi in 55000 km. Love it so much and in Türkiye we prefer 208 GTİ rather than other Hot hatches.

dont forget when you add overboost in the mk7.5 it's 197bhp only 1st and 2nd gear is at 180bhp
