This video tries to show you some of the basics steps used in longboard dancing. It starts at the absolute basic level and works a little bit up to some more advanced steps. But still, almost everything is based on the simple cross-step. No fancy board manipulation or technical wizardry. Just walking on the board.
I hope you will use this as a guide and as an inspiration to go dancing. It's really not that hard!
Board: Simple Platypus, Randal 180's, Orangatang 86a Stimulus
Music: The Album Leaf -- Red-Eye
Can we just take the time to appreciate the quality of this 9 year old video? That and how much it teaches without much verbal instruction. This is insanely well made.
Thanks so much for your kind words. This video inspired a lot of people
Now it’s 12 yrs old 😢 still amazing to this day
This is perhaps the most attractive thing I've ever seen anyone do. How is he so graceful?!
lots and lots and lots and some more lots of training i guess
@@mercylessplayer its actually pretty easy to learn took me about 1 month of going two day a week. To learn most of these
100% agreed! Made me solidify my interest in long dancers 🤘🏻🇨🇦
this dude is chill af, met him once in eindhoven at the "so you can longboard dance?" meeting and had a nice time talking with him about longboard dancing and live. very sensual and humble person with a superchill attitude
I watched this video 2 years ago. It inspired me to get a longboard. It's crazy watching this today and being able to actually do the same steps. Thank you man. Much love.
congrats on your progress
@@simplelongboards我也刚买了长板,也想学这些动作😂

One of the best (maybe *the* best) and most enjoyable instructional videos ever, including a huge range of subjects. Mesmerizing.
yup! I couldn't say it better myself! ! Awesome.
+Thirak ~ I agree. I actually looked them up because of this video, and added a few of their pieces to one of my playlists.
God, there is such a beauty to this. I honestly consider boarding to be an art. It's so free, it's so fluid. It truly is land surfing.
I could watch this all day it's perfect. Makes me hate this rainy weather rn though.
The best longboard dancing tutorial I've ever seen mate. You made that simple. Congrats.
I abolutly love your style, every step looks so smooth.... it's relaxing to watch you. (Sorry for my bad english) Greets from Germany
Deutsch
jan lange
was deutsch?
Carolina Kaes ich finde es nur immer lustig wenn man deutsche unter englischen vids sieht... Aber ich Stimme dir vollkommen zu! I think this style is really cool and relaxing.(Bad english, From germany :P)
your english is actually really good! but a little correction is to say greetings from germany if you want to say it again. anyways, you are so right, he is so graceful and amazing to watch
Die deutsche Dancing Community sollte größer werden und enger zusammen kommen XD
Been longboarding for two years, found this video and decided to try something new - By now I've learned the cross-steps (both) and the sex change. It's tough and you'll lose your balance sometimes but this video has helped me an enormous amount. Good luck, future dancers!

So I ripped this video onto my phone - found a fresh built carpark in Wells, Somerset, England and bought a longboard. Your flow has pushed me in the space of 3, 6 hour days of riding back and forward to push myself to learn smooth cross steps, 180 steps (both step forward step back and step around..like a 360) and I'm on the Peter Pan tomorrow. Thanks man, keep up the good work!
Ps. Alt-J, Phantogram - legends!
You make it look so easy :) Thank you for making the video!
I'm mesmerised whenever I watch this. Definitely therapeutic to watch, tricky trying it on my board - but getting there "Go Learn" 🤘🏻
This must feel so gratifying to finally be able to do this comfortably
cant get enough of this! This is so well done! different angles, slow mo, all flowing so smoothly together. Gotta be the best out there. Great Job!
the reason i love this style of longboarding is because it just looks so laid back and fun!
I wish I can find a street like that with absolutely not cars, near me :(
Right? Something with some reasonably smooth concrete at least
Parking lots or garages in the evening/night are the move 💯
or like generally outside of any city.
The amount of flex on that board is amazing
thanks for making this video. i was really lost in my dancing. I became really adept at cross stepping and peter pans, but I really didn't know how to elevate my skating beyond that until you step by step showed me how to link together these tricks. Thanks, keep up the good work, your work inspires us all.
This guy's movements are so flowing, damn, I'm impressed lol. You deserve the thumbs up!
I love it! Such a simple, yet effective, way to present a tutorial video. You're going to be getting a lot of repeat views from yours truly until I have all these down!
This is insane! You make it look so simple
ahah, I get it
my platypus arrives soon!!!! excited!
It flows so well when he does it
This is the best dance tutorial I have found so far! You are really awesome and I can't wait to try this stuff out.
This video has progressed my dancing so much . I have spent so much hours working on my style. Can we have more of these? Please and thank you.
These steps are for beginners and intermediates
I could move to another level thanks to the taste of wanting to learn to dance
Now focus on freestyle and mesclo the two to see how it goes
Simple Longboards thank the great start that gave me
It was not easy, but got over rss
Been rewatching this for nearly five years now for inspiration thanks so much yall
Beautiful video...great camera shots...superb technic and excellent choice in music...subscribed thanks
Looks great. I cross-step my board all day while going straight, pull to rear to snap a turn. Hadn't occurred to me to work my cross-steps into carveable waving turns. Looks like I've got a lot more to learn. Thanks!
Calvin Peck just try to loosen your trucks
@bgiceman7 I don't want to go into details. All that I can say is that I'm really glad we've got so much support from everybody! It really helped us a lot! :)
I love to bomb downhills, but your skill and finesse you show while boarding makes me want to learn to dance too... Your peter pans, they make my jaw drop, mate... I would love to watch a tutorial on peterpans by yourself...
Keep on living the love man.
I cannot thumbs up this video enough!!
Holy shit that board is flexy
this is one of the best longboarding videos on youtube.
had my board for about a week now, doing well with cross steps and the peter pan! it's quite the challenge but it makes you really want to master it skillfully
Quality videography, dope music, graceful skating👌 I was inspired to learn a step & I did before coming back to finish off the video. Big ups!
=== MIRRORED VERSION FOR REGULAR STANCE: /watch?v=Ny0HinD_X0o ===
i started longboarding after watching a dancing movie and it was love at first sight! i couldnt make many moves at the start but now i can make cross steps, switch cross stes, peterpans and others! im trying to learn how to 180 step to backwards 180 step. this move will increase my combos! i will try it soon! thx
That pavement is...... beautiful...... Where I live the sidewalks are uneven, pot holes and extremely old. The streets are narrow and everyone parallel parks in my neighborhood. Whenever I find a street like the one you are skating on I get so excited to skate on it.
I like that in this video you really see the board worn down from usage compared to a lot of other company’s where they use brand new boards in there videos
It is also good to learn foot placement, this affects the weaving of the board as well. For instance with peter pans your feet are parallel to the board and riding either edge, this causes the board to weave and all that is necessary then is keeping your weight above the board.
This is amazing! The amount of repetitions is just perfect to learn, thank you!
Got my 180 steps down, my cross steps, and my peter pan. Will continue with the rest tomrrow. Thanks man
I've always felt so limited with ideas for dancing, but wow. Now I've got a lot of new things to try out =]
I favorited your video.
Dancing shown as it should look! Awesome vid, just what I was looking for. And you sir are smooth 😏
This is the best video i ever seen, i'm from brazil and I remember 10years ago i see this and today i'm here again and feels the same 😮❤
Note: I'm going to buy a new board for me before 7 years without surf
That's sick dude!! So graceful 😍😍
This video has so many beautiful shots.
That was the best video I've seen for learning how to dance over the board, perfectly shot and really good edit and music, simply love it, thnks so much brother.
We here in Rio de Janeiro longboarding love dancing. Let's do a big event during the World Cup and another in the Olympics.
I a little over half done learning the tricks in this video. It's been a whole year lol.
I've been watching Hans Wouters who is an amazing teacher, but I fell I can perfect my steps with this video
I've been searching for good videos to learn easy skills to do but it was hard. I'm a beginner but I work very hard! I hope someday I'll be as good as you:) Keep uploading videos! Greetings from a longboard Spanish girl!
I'm insanely new to longboarding, but what attracted me to it was dancing and step tricks on them, rather than bombing or sliding. For most "dancers" do you usually only have trip on the nose and tail? I'm about to get a longboard and I dont wanna grip it up if it's gonna make it harder to learn tricks.
Graceful. Thank you - dancing is what I want to do in the long term, that looks like a beautiful board for it. I think I'll be referencing this video a lot in the future.
This guy is so friggin smooth
I've never skateboarded before and I really want to learn how to longboard dance 😍 such a graceful thing to watch! Any suggestions on what to look for??
simplelongboards.com or if you a beginner buy a mindless longboard
Get a good arbor pintail if u wanna dance
I just bought a really good one good flexibillity and great dance moves board its hard tho I cant do it yet only have it 4 ouher now.
its the Nyoka from mindlesslongboard
me too. Can dance on quad skates a bit, but this is awesome!!
any particular model? Any reasonably priced boards you'd recommend for a beginner please?
Beautiful riding style. I will be getting my much loved but little-used board out and learning these moves one by one :)
0:18 cross-steps
0:48 180step to switch180step
1:24 180step to backwards180step
1:46 backwards cross-step
2:29 cross-step sexchange to cross-step
2:49 chop the wood
3:07 peter pans
3:38 chop the pan
The mirrored version is a great great great and simple idea ! Perfect!
Really help full, focused on teaching, not in grooving. Specially usefull the slow motion repetition of the feet
good point. I just wrote the tricks in it in my Longboard tricktionary notebook.
This may help you:
- Cross-step
- 180 step to switch 180 step
- 180 step to Backwards 180 step
- Backwards Cross-step
- Cross-step Sex change to Cross-step
- Chop the Wood
- Peter Pans
- Chop the pan
- Ghostrides
- Ghostride Cross-step
- Cross-step over
- Sidewinders
This looks so chilled. Smooth style!
It's a part of dancing and yes it improves your balance within the trick. without carving it's more like doing dance steps while riding the board.
Muito legal cara aprendi muito com esse vídeo e ainda estou aprendendo...
Very grateful! This video has become my bible for longboard dance. I can do all these steps now except Chop the Pan... still sussing that one out.
Just bought my loaded bhangra, its so amazing for dancing, Orange stimulus wheels and 180 Paris trucks. for anyone Who is choosing a board i highly recommend this one
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. You're great, guy!
That's awesome. I really want to become better at dancing and i am going to use this video. I've literally watched it 6 times...
Absolutely brilliant! Hope this will work with a gripped board too.
hella bad ass now i got new motive on board
For sure one of the best videos I've ever seen. Thanks for the video and the instructions
yes. for dancing, flex is great! it makes it more springy and lively.
thanks man this helped allot most off all because of your relaxed and smooth style of dancing
Alright ive practiced the foot movements on a few of these, cross step, cross step 180, and the ghast rider. Wish me luck on my way to class! :)
@billyrobertdavies It's our Simple Platypus. Check the description for more info :)
The best video for learn the basic of dancing, very cool ...
this is so beautifully filmed. Great execution man
This is the best video to learn Dancing of all RUclips
I learned pretty much everything from this video. It's great. Thanks a lot!
You're so lucky to live in a place where its cold so you can wear jumpers and jeans when you skate. In Australia, its way too hot so i gotta wear shorts and a t-shirt, im new to longboarding, about 2 weeks, getting pretty good and these steps are awesome, i tried to chop the pan and full on stacked it, shit. Might invest in some pads
These tricks are not that hard, but you bro are killing 'em !
My board comes this week, thanks for the great check list.
making it look really easy and graceful. nice work!
Great video, it's totally enough for learning the first few steps. Thanks
I too wanted this out on the streets as a reference. I looked into it and for me, it was really easy. I went to Keep vid dot com and dragged the little button that it tells you to drag to your tool bar/bookmark bar... Then went back to this video page, and pressed the "keep it" in the bar. It then took me to a page on Keep Vid that listed a bunch. I clicked the 720P one and it downloaded an mp4. I put that into itunes and I put it on my iPhone NO problem. Good luck. :)
You are incredible I got vertigo watching some of that so smooth
Still my favorite person to get trick tips from
i will repeat the video a lot of times, thank you for share your experience.
you're welcome
That board is f***ing sweet! I want it so bad. It's perfect for chillin' around, doing tricks, because it's smooth at the middle you can easily rotate ya foot, and at the end grip tape to keep a better grip when poppin'. I want it!
I'm learning Peter Pan Steps! Thank you so much!
Kisses from Brazil!
great video man, i just started out longboarding a couple of months ago and can't wait until i'm good enough to dance like this.
one question, where are you! looks like an absolutely amazing place to skate, so peaceful
new dancer in 2023. it’s amazing that i can still learn even after all these years
happy to hear that, enjoy🤙
these are all pretty easy now, this is the video that taught me
I'm torn between longboards. I'm not sure if I should get a 38-42 inch or something bigger, and either top mount or drop through. I want to dance, and the roads are not always that smooth in my area. Also I'm a commuter, so I would be taking it to college. But I don't care about downhill speed at all.
Shaynks I got a 42 inch drop through when I first started, let me tell you the pros and cons.
For dancing this is not the best board, first of all the drop through decks, the things that hold the trucks get in the way sometimes in some dance moves. You can get around this yet it takes much more getting used to it. Also now and then I wish I had a longer bored because it gives more space for error like a cross step or a Peter pan.
Now for the pros, a 42 inch deck is a nice middle ground, it's good for commuting, downhill if you need to, and deccent at dancing. Shorter boards can help you make sharper curves to and the drop through decks are closer to the ground so they have much more stability for any type of riding.
That's just a bit of info, i hope I helped you somehow X) byee
I hope to be able to do all the stuff in this video by the end of summer!
Really great video. You got great skills and video quality was awesome too. Well done!
