Thank you! I homeschooled my son and now Im a 54 year old returning to work women. NOBODY is calling and I have so much to offer. I will try these ideas. Thanks!
I love it. You're so welcome. Let me know how it goes.
Can you also provide volunteers and learn by doing opportunities also? As well as social entrepreneurial opportunities? Thanks!!!
@@organizer14 Yes! Great ideas😀
Same here! Nobody is calling!
Thanks cause I will be 50 and I keep applying and no one is calling or they say my resume is immaculate However they moved to a different person
I’m 66 and looking for a job and the age discrimination really sucks. I have 2 degrees (1990’s) and got my nursing license (at age 62)…can’t even get an interview. The worse offenders are State government jobs……talk about equality, diversity and inclusion (only if you’re 20-30 you have a chance). Thank you for the information, I’m going to check those job boards.
Hi Vicki, yeah, the age discrimination is real. The nursing field is at a deficit currently so it's odd to read that you're having a challenge there. There may be a disconnect with your resume and how it's resonating with decision makers. I'd be happy to take a look when you're ready. You can schedule time at iamkellijackson.com in the career store. Thanks for watching. I'm glad the information was helpful.☺
I'm 66 too and the age and RACE discrimination stinks too
Be a travel nurse if you can.
Try hospice nursing
@@vickiz2306 very sad to hear
Great video, I'm done with Indeed and all the job sites.
Yeah, it can be frustrating on indeed.
Shout out to everyone here. The fact that you found this channel shows you can use the COMPUTER well, which we all know nowadays nothing is done without it.
Love the positivity!😀
Thank you for this, Kelli. I’m 58. A few months ago, I lost my PR Manager job when the company, a very well known bus transportation company, reorganized and cut several roles. Since then, I have applied to many jobs, but have yet to even get an interview. PR is an industry dominated by younger people, and I believe that played a part in my being let go.
It’s incredibly frustrating when you never hear back unless it’s a form email telling you they went another direction. I’m still energetic and hungry to learn new things, but I can’t afford to go back to school and I can’t afford to be without a job much longer.
My former employer pulled the plug on me two weeks after my wife finished chemotherapy, so the timing was not ideal. I’m thrilled she’s cancer-free, but not thrilled that I’m job-free.
Thank you so much for sharing your story, and I’m deeply sorry to hear about the difficult timing and challenges you’ve faced, especially after your wife’s battle with cancer. I’m glad to hear she’s now cancer-free, and I know navigating a job search on top of that can be incredibly overwhelming.
The job market, especially in industries like PR, can indeed be tough, and ageism is, unfortunately, a real barrier many professionals face. But it’s important to remember that your experience, energy, and willingness to learn are significant assets that can set you apart.
You mentioned that PR is dominated by younger people, but don’t let that discourage you. Companies are increasingly realizing the value of seasoned professionals who bring wisdom, resilience, and a unique perspective to the table. There are ways to highlight your strengths and reframe your experience to target roles that might even align more closely with your personal goals.
You’ve already shown incredible resilience; let’s get you in a position where your skills are valued and you’re excited about the next phase of your career. Stay strong-you’ve got this my friend!🙂
Thanks so much for this video, Kelli. I'm 58 and retired a year and a half ago because I was caring for my mother. She passed away so I'm starting to look at the job market again. I'd rather start with employers who I know are more open to hiring people my age.
You're so right in starting with employers who are open to seasoned professionals. Thanks for watching.☺
Hope you've been successful.
Thank God for this video, I am not having luck finding a job on Indeed as a 57 year old woman. I lack a lot of computer skills too even though I was an Administrative Assistant for 9 years, the company was Old School
Hey Cheryl, you're not alone. I'm glad the video was helpful. I have more resources for us. Stay tuned!🙂
@@iamkellijackson thank you so much!
It’s easy to bring your computer skills up to date. I like Udemy. Usually courses are inexpensive.
Hi, I'm 58 now, my birthday was March 29th. I'm waiting to see if I qualify for SSDI, and if I do, the rules say that you can work part time as long as your wages do not exceed a certain amount. But I have had absolutely no luck AT ALL with Indeed, and wondered if you can direct me to any other websites that help people that are 50 plus to find a part time job? I really need something other than Indeed. Thank you in advance
@@cherylmacgillivray2750
I heard on another platform that Indeed isn’t sending the applications through; try another platform, or, if at all possible, try to go to the location in person with your resume!
Yes, I’m experiencing age discrimination. Thanks for resources.
Sorry to hear that my friend. Hopefully this was helpful. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Kelli for this wonderful information. I have faced age discrimination on numerous occasions . I just know those employers are not for me and something better is on the horizon.
Yes, Lisa, you're absolutely right! When one door shuts another one opens. You were being protected my friend. It wasn't for you.
Age discrimination on most boards is off the charts. Will try these two new places. They talk about boomers becoming homeless the problem is age discrimination. Will try this place
Oh my goodness, don't tell me that Edward.
so true! I am shocked how it is everywhere
"They" also claim "they" can't find workers. Or, workers who will work! 😒
No wonder so many people drop out of society. JUST heard yesterday that Louisiana has a 58 percent job participation rate. (National average is 60 percent+.)
I am so glad I found your page looking for a job and will be 50 and feel like most of the jobs I apply for always say I have a good resume but they moved to the next person which is frustrating cause we still have to pay bills at 50.
Yes, we do still have to pay bills. Amen to that! Welcome to the community my friend. We’re glad you’re here☺️
Being broke at 50+ just AIN'T cute, either. 😔
It's really bad, I found myself fired for no reason they made something up to get rid of me at 57 and replace me a younger guy , after being with the company for 23 years. Now I lost all House and found myself almost homeless and I found a temp job working out of a hotel. I wish there was laws to prevent jobs doing this to people near retirement.
Sue them. I did when I was discriminated against.
Yep, not any time soon in the US. Nope. 👎
There is no loyalty anymore. The closer that you get to retirement despite serving them loyally with loyalty, the quicker they are to cut you loose.
Yes I feel I’ve been discriminated for my age. I am having a difficult time finding a job after being fired
I definitely understand the that . Keep your head up 🙏🏾
Thank you for this I am experiencing a low of ageism. I never thought I would have a problem because I have been on in healthcare for years. All I am getting rejection letters its very discouraging. I live in the Houston Texas area.
You're so welcome. Unfortunately, it's so widespread that it affects every industry. It can be discouraging but you got this. You have so much to offer. You're just one opportunity away from what you desire😊
@angiesingleton5160 if you're in Texas, never rule out the possibility that your employment rejections can be related to racism, as well. I currently reside in Texas, too, and have witnessed it firsthand, unfortunately. Stay encouraged, queen.
Same here. Unfortunately. Health care seems to be one of the biggest offenders! Pharmaceutical companies are blatant in discriminating which is interesting because no industry discriminates against their most likely customers!
Thank you for this. Im returning to my hometown to be near my elderly mother and have to look for work AGAIN in my 60's.
You're welcome Rhonda. I moved my mother from our hometown when my dad passed away so it was a bit overwhelming but you WILL do this! Leverage what you already know. It's easier to acclimate to knew surroundings when you don't also have to acclimate to a new skillset. You got this my friend.☺
I am so delighted I found your channel-or rather, your channel found me! The algorithms are absolutely amazing! I currently subscribe to many remote channels. Additionally, I am doing research on ageism in the workplace for a college assignment. These two situations undoubtedly matched me to your channel. You have provided significant resources here for those of us 50 plus! I am going to take a look at these job boards, and I have subscribed to your channel. Thank you again!
Welcome Eva! We’re glad you’re here😊😍
Wow! Keep these sites and jobs coming! Even though I am not in my 50s, it is also great for those who are younger. Bless you 🌹
Thank you Natalie. Will do. Thanks for watching☺
My husband, 60, has a wealth of experience in the tech sector but sadly has faced rejection after rejection after decades of solid work and references. It’s been extremely discouraging and our future unknown. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi Laura, sorry to hear this. What does he do in tech? How long has been in this field?
What area of IT sector does his experience / expertise lays in??? I am 63 in Maryland area and there are plenty of jobs especially he can work online!!! If he got experience in Project Management, Archertecture, Database / Designing or Tech Writing... he should be fine. If his area is Hardware or Installation , he can travel if you both up to it.
A lot of younger folks do not like hard work or critical thinking skills needed to see projects thru nowadays and that hurts!!! The military and Government Services is looking for retirees these days to full slots and just in time before President Biden signs an Executive Order for getting military and Civil Service retirees back to work by end of this year or early 2025!!
Independent consultant?
@@allenbarrow4904 I am 63 and live in Maryland and I was downsized about four years ago. My degree is in management information systems, and I would really love to hear where I should go to find these jobs. I’ve been looking for work for about four years now and all I can find is tutoring college students part time. Where’s the best place to go to look for jobs like this is it meetups in person or is it online?
@@allenbarrow4904 Is there a job board or something for these types of jobs hiring retirees?
Thank you. Previously irrelevant or unneeded site links for me might actually come in very handy! I was oblivious to "age discrimination" till I got to that age where I noticed I was typically the oldest or one of the oldest members in my dept. or team. If you are already employed and not looking for a new job, then you should be OK but if you ever find yourself looking for a job over 50 and you are not already employed, your chances of finding a job feels a lot like you are looking for a purple unicorn to ride.
You're so welcome. In talent acquisition when we have hard to find skills we call that a purple squirrel🙂Looking for a job when you're over 50 can be a job in itself. Knowing how to position your experience and knowledge is the key. Strategy over tactics.
I appreciate the insights in this video. Finding a job can be tough at any age, but knowing where to look makes a difference.
On top of the age discrimination, joblessness and bills, I’m also taking care of my parents-as I’m sure many are experiencing. Social security doesn’t kick in for me until age 66 and it’ll probably only be enough to pay for groceries. Thanks so much for these resources.
You're so welcome.
Yeah I have indeed and it's ok no luck
Thanks Tammy. Which site so we can share with everyone?
I’m glad I found you. You’re awesome.

Yes, I was blatantly discriminated against several years ago. Submitted my resume and had 5 phone interviews with this company they were very enthusiastic about hiring me. I went in for the face-to-face interview. I was interviewed by two "20-something" young women. I received a phone call later that day and was told "I wasn't a GOOD fit." Go figure?
That's horrible. Makes me so mad. It's so unfair. Unfortunately it's something we all battle and we have to be strategic about where we spend our time these days. I appreciate you sharing. Hopefully the video was helpful.☺
Sorry this happened to you. Yes there is a lot of ageism around. However the other area of concern could be the "younger" element not wanting anyone around who may highlight their lack of ability. At least this has been my experience.
@@elli_z8tjulien624 Thank you for sharing your experience. Ageism is certainly a significant issue, and it's unfortunate that you’ve had to face it. The concern about younger colleagues feeling threatened by more experienced professionals is another important aspect. How do you think we, as midlife professionals, can address and navigate these dynamics in the workplace? What strategies have you found effective in bridging the gap and fostering collaboration across different age groups?
