There are 5 initial steps of resuscitation- First to provide warmth by placing the infant under a radiant heat source, Second position the head in a 'sniffing' position to open the airway Third clear the airway with a bulb syringe or suction catheter Fourth dry the infant and Fifth stimulate the baby for breathing by gentle rubbing of a newborn's back or flicking the soles of the feet three times All steps should be done with in 30 seconds or as early as possible within 30 seconds
