H i , Mallory I know a young lady, Lisa that has a trading post about 5 miles from me & she has all kinds of things . Many that Iv never seen before & she does not know a lot about how to use things as well . Iv been helping her out some too . Like sweet grass for one . She has 1000s of things In her shop , some she orders & some times she goes on long trips way out west from S.W. Ohio . I just love going to her store . Great video! I’m a newbie to smudging. I only been smudging for about a year on & on. I use a smudge stick to remove negativity energy from my space. I usually purchase it from a natural herb vendor in my area. I make sure that I have positive energy before smudging . I always smudge myself first. I always say a prayer each time to my creator. I always open a window and door to remove the negativity. I demand the negative energy to leave out of the open door or window. I usually smudge for 20 minutes. I never blow out the stick I allow it to burn out in it one. Afterwards; my space feels pure and clean. And, I feel so much better internally. Thank you so much for posting this informative video. I’ve learn some extra needed tips. I’ll be looking forward to the next one.
After reading the comments below I'm going to use a suggestion from someone who said they take the sage out of the stick while contemplating their intentions. I like this idea and it really gives time for thoughtful reflection.
I like to add a little cedar oil to my sage when I'm bundling it up. :) (The oil helps keep the sage burning, but i've also used pine resin dissolved in alcohol)
Thanks for the teaching on smug I've been smudging for along time! But I was putting out with water so I will let it go out now! Most days I like sweet grass or sage occasionally I use yellow cedar from high up in the mountains . I also carry Palo Santo and use it too ! All my relations 🙏
Yes, we were taught to let the smudge burn out on its own. But teachings may vary from tribe to tribe. Yellow cedar from high up in the mountains sounds very special! 🧡
I use a smudge stick It works better for me, although I do sometimes get confused on whether I'm doing it correctly or not, your video helped and I seem to be doing it correctly. I am very open to learning more and as much as I can. Thank you
I'm so glad to hear that our video helped! It's totally normal to feel a little confused or unsure when you're starting out. Just remember that the most important thing when smudging is your intentions.😊🪶

Hello Mallory, Thank You for your beautiful instructional videos…I am learning so much. My apologies for asking such a ridiculous question (I am aged so forgive me). Is it OK to cut pieces off of a Smudge bundle stick and then light the little pieces in the abalone shell? It is my Intention to bring some peace and forgiveness to myself and a small area in my home (a meditation space..full of negative energies right now and affected by my ego I think -and concerning the all the bad news in our lovely world of late!). I do not know how to actually light small pieces of the bundle and don’t want to set all the smoke alarms off! Sorry for such a silly question but I am a total newbie..even given. my grand age! Thank You - from PD in the U.K. XXXX. Light and Love to All.
Hello, I love your content! I have been saging for a couple years now, I use palo santo, sweet grass and hogwort. My question has NO disrespect or ill intentions to it, I am genuinely curious and the answers are different everywhere. White sage, is it a part of a closed practice OR is it not recommended for non-indigenous because it is at risk of being extinct? I respect everyone's tradition and I thank you for sharing the information you do! Love & Light 🔆
I am so happy I found your channel! I received a sage stick as a gift along with, I believe they are palo sticks(?) I am looking forward to trying the sage sticks. But, I am unsure what to do with the palo. Is this something you may have information on? Thank you!
You mention letting it burn out on its own. Will the smudge stick stop burning at a certain point or does it basically burn the whole thing in one sitting?
I've been breaking up my sage bundle to burn it as loose. Like you said, it's so hard to keep the bundle lit. I've been starting with my intentions as I break the pieces off. Is this wrong? Should I be leaving it bundled if I've bought it as a bundle? I want to try to grow some of my own sage but where I live there's not much space so I source it from sites like this.
Eu uso Sálvia Branca solta e eu gosto de ir falando sobre a intenção da defumação enquanto solto a Sálvia do bastão. Agradeço pela sua partilha amorosa. A'ho!!!
What you doing is helping me tremendously. Migwetch . I have some of my lineage paper from my grandparents and great grandparents that are little shell band of Chippewa. But my aunt live in Saskatchewan so is there any way you can help me Trace links
Do I only need one reason for the smudging practice or can it be more? Because I feel like I have three reasons but maybe that's too much? Also, I have white sage (it was gifted to me, but not by an indigenous person) and I'm not sure if it's okay for me to use it, but I also feel like it would be disrespectful to throw it away.
Thanks for your question. Smudging is a way to send our prayers to creator so whatever you need or want to pray for can be included. It's perfectly fine to use :)
I think you forgot to mention a fire source 🤣 charcoal disks and stick lighters are the most effective, as you run the risk of burning yourself with a small lighter or matches. Charcoal disks are really cheap, especially at smoke shops/tobacco stores, and they can help you focus on smudging and not trying to keep your smudging bundle lit. I personally prefer cedar for the uses listed, and only use white sage in more dire/protection ceremony.
Our next door neighbors have really negative energy. In addition , they are quite noisy. The area next to their house feels heavy and even scary. Any special advice to smudge that outdoor area?
hello, my house is haunted and my mother sees diiferent things structure like hunan or animal headed everywhere inside or outside of the house. i did smudging this eve first time in my life but after doing this these neg spirit increased a lot. my mom says she see every wall of our house. what to do now, pls advise
So I saw you video before I did any sagging. The first time when I finished I sat the bundle outside on the porch to go out by itself ( not sure if that’s ok or a non no). The second time I just sat it on table but it wasn’t going out it seemed to burn stronger ( it was a big stick left over from the first time). It was almost done and I don’t know why but I put it out myself. Fast forward a few months my son tells me someone peed on the floor in the room. Well I figured it was my baby boy either lazy or mad and thinks no one will notice. Well this has been happening for a few months maybe 4x. Well I call my sister and ask her if she could see which of my boys are pissing on the floor before I hurt one of the( not really hurt for those that don’t understand lol). So she asked if one of them is having bad dreams that they feel afraid. She tells me they they are sleep walking and feels the bathroom is far away but in reality it’s really close. She also tells me there’s an negative entity in their room, and I need to clean the space again. So I guess me putting the stick out made it not work bc it’s still there. I had no idea my child sleepwalks. Also the child that keeps telling me every time the floor is wet is the one doing it. This is my indigo child I guess that’s what their called. She also told me more that blew my mind.
Need to do for inner peace in me. Have sage sticks. Im nice kind older person. But troubled deep inside. Want inner peace. No sometime hurting person. Past things in life. Like i have delt with a bad marriage. In it longtime. Mad at myself for staying in over 30 years. I eas warned by friends. But kept thinking it would change. I have moved on. Just want negativity of it out. I don't hate ex Again inner peace within myself. Thank you for listening. 😢

I was going to ask this, too. Did you test it?
That was my question as well… after watching this video, ‘How to smudge with a bundle.’, I still don’t know how to smudge with a sage stick.
H i , Mallory I have OIL you can put on a old type light that you can turn on & off .
I'm a first newbie. Can i put my lit sage in a mini cauldron?

do you use an abalone shell? I’m always worried about the sage falling through the holes and hitting my hand

Nice suggestion. Typically matches are the traditional fire started for smudging.
Do need finish all of it till end the smoke ?
Does it matter what type of bowl you use to place the sage bundle in when you put it down to burn out? Can it be a glass one?
Yes it can be. 😊

This is my first time smudging I need to no how to do it and the prayer to repeat while doing it
Is there a difference between smudging with White sage vs green sage?
hi, i wanted to know if you should have the windows and doors open of closed when smudging
I heard open or cracked so the negative energy has a place to escape, which makes sense.
I use loose sage. I have been gifted with sage in a bundle and I prefer the loose. I don't like store bought sage. I get headaches from the smell.
We hear that!
Can you take the bundle stake apart to burn the Lise sage
If the stick is tight, can I take it apart?
Yes, take it apart! ☺️ it will burn much better
