It’s pretty clear that shorty Twinnies with a good amount of foam through the middle, and 6’10 single fins with more foam up front look the most beautiful on decent waves. It’s just so smooth, especially with Mikey at the helm. He’s incredible.

The point is that there is more to surfing than being the next Kelly Slater. Much more. Mikey brings a very different but real vibe than run of the mill Western pros and aggros.
Yes! He dropped out from normal surfing, because he doesn´t have what it takes to be a top competing surfer. It´s not his fault because he doesn´t have the athleticism needed to ride a normal board, he just flows with this trend of ALTERNATIVE, enabeling him to be professional besides not having what it takes.
Style is highly subjective, his is like his body allows him to be, little power-little muscle, drawn out turns-lanky slender limps, flowy- slow twichting muscles. But how is this style judged in other sports who have subjective judging by a panel like surfing. Take mens artistic gymnastics where full body extension and flexiation, no limbs flying around and tensioned muscle tone is highly awarded: He would be a 0.
In other terms gooey ugliness.
I think this idea of style and alternative is created to give surfers who are not talented enough for normal professional surfing a chance to be professional. Why is this done? To please the untalented, unathletic surfer, now they have idols they can relate to. And they then spend their MONEY to those company´s products.
