I would just like to say, I am in love with this. I am a fifteen year old who has a love of choral singing and this just beats so many choirs I have heard! The diction, perfect pitch, togetherness and energy each singer gives to the performance is astonishing - and I love it.
And the amazing part of that is that they have been at this level since the group was originally formed--in 1968! They called themselves the King's Singers because every founding member had been a King's College choral scholar. In fact, there is a group picture with the older original members in the back rows, and one of the boys in the front row is Bob Chilcott!
@@wildyone172 did you miss the phrase 'when originally formed'? Not to mention I referenced 'founding members'. The group was formed in 1968 and has had many member changes since. I never implied that any of the current members are original. Bollocks indeed...unobservant git.
English choirs trained at the various colleges are superb. I was at Trinity Hall, near King's College, where the singers get their name. It was such a treat to hear them practice. Though the bells and music could start to drive you a bit mad early on a Sunday morning if you'd been out late the night before! Great memories.

@vanguardiris3232 Hahaha, oh wow, I don't even remember writing this comment! But I was specifically referencing the singer two from the left, who has a blue tie closer to cyan. He looks so vibrant!

Don't want to split hairs but- solo parts; short notes between accented ones, the ones in the middle of passages- a lot of them of the proper pitch: notes that don't sound that important. But tutti parts- immaculate. The color, the blending, dynamics... perfect. Seems to me that ensemble gives them intonative superpowers :-)
And their pronunciation is execrable. I have a fair knowledge of Latin, and could barely understand anything beyond the first line. I'm not advocating a classical or even an ecclesiastical pronunciation, but at least it should be consistent. e.g. "ae" in "laeticiae" is pronounced two different ways, each problematic. With the tempo they chose, it might as well have been scat. Granted, their singing was beautiful.
Truly UPLIFTING!! My favorite Christmas 'Carol' and beautifully performed by the King's Singers! Thank you for posting & a Blessed Holiday Season to all. GAUDETE!!

absolutely love this version. interesting to note that christians always seem to sing faster than catholics. we found this out when a salesman was giving our choir and parish a demo on our new church organ. We kept running out of breath because we were used to singing up tempo he he
The history of this song and its variations over time is fascinating
Saw Steeleye Span sing this in Edinburgh during the festival in August 1973. Beautiful.
Hello Is this song very old? Was the hippy on last xmas's Doctor Who wanting the band to sing it? the hippy is Sasan twist.
the first soloist has incredibly clear voice
Paul phoenix... brilliant tenor.
Reminds me of a trumpet tbh
My favourite tenor haha
And his Latin sparkled !
True
The guy from 0:18 to 0:26 has a really good voice! Very clear and he enunciates pretty much every word.
That's why he got the gig I reckons

I keep returning to this masterpiece. It's addictive. The harmonies are perfect and I love the last two refrains. David really nailed it (again).

I laughed so hard. Thanks for bringing some humor to some very serious singing.
I believe there is a very nice recording of Allegri's 'Miserere' performed in this same space. I wonder where it is.
This looks like it's LSO St. Luke's - it's a church that was converted into a concert space. The LSO often rehearse there.
I thought it was the Dragon's Den set!
Incredible performance!

Easily the best performance of this wonderful old Christmas Carol.
i saw an earlier version of this group when i studied at Exeter in the 80s. Great then, great now!
I sung this for freshman year winter concert, lovely memories

Parts of it translate to "rejoice for Christ is born of the Virgin mary"
The 'echo' to which you refer is more precisely called 'decay'. One of the factors that indicate how 'live' a space is.
