      He meant to play competitively in the states. To compete in front of scouts at club level, the costs get ridiculous year round. The development in the U.S isn't set up to have players succeed in High School and College through the MLS draft like other major sports. Not to mention the leagues focus on attracting outside talent (Beckham, pirlo, villa, Kaka) makes opportunities in the league scarce for a young player. If you're a young athlete, and know you can make so much more money and have it cost less to get there, why would anyone play soccer here in the states? That's why arguably the best player in US history (Landon Donovan) began playing in Germany, just like pulisic.

    When he said “Soccer is expensive” he was referring to America. The youth players pay their own way for travelling and playing and stuff like that. In Europe, if you’re a youth player for a team they pay for everything for you so you just do your job which is to play football. Stuart Holden was a good player when he was in England, it was a shame he couldn’t shake off the injuries

    • @pauldambrosio5773
      @pauldambrosio5773 5 лет назад +53

      The reverse is true for other sports in the US. Basketball, football, and baseball development is primarily done through the high schools, mostly public high schools. That makes them considerably cheaper than playing club soccer.

    • @Juan-bt9zw
      @Juan-bt9zw 5 лет назад +6

      If some high schools in US take more seriously for the kids the practice of this sports, they could be now fighting for very good and talented youth players. Paying them a scolarship to study and play semi-profesional leagues, and then trying luck in the draft of each season. Many good players and people there who loves soccer would play in the best leagues and in somepoint, go jump in one european league to improve their career. But the basketball is the sports of US, thats no question about it, and me personally enjoy the NBA as I enjoy the soccer league here in Spain. Is totally diferrent, they surely like more this soccer league and honestly, I prefer that NBA basketball than FIBA. The competition is more savage and inspiring there. Each country have his own sports, wich is a very rich point in culture for the world. And yeah, thats it haha its my opinion, saludos.

    Playing organized soccer in North America can range from $300 - $1,000 a year. If you play competively there are also costs of travelling. In some cases depending on the level and age you could pay as much as $3,000 - $5,000 a season once you factor in tournament fees, travel, hotel, additional equipment etc. This can happen as early as the age of 11 - 13.

      It’s not expensive to buy a ball and play in a park or empty lot in the U.S.
      It IS expensive to play competitively and get proper training. Our youths have their development stalled at a young age, meaning kids get training because they’re wealthy, not because they’re good.
      If we can find a way to support our ambitious, lower-income kids, we’ll see massive improvement.

Due to the World Cup in Qatar, all European leagues will have to stop in November, and restart in February, this is going to affect the season right before the Word Cup, the season during the World Cup, and the season after.
