@Yosef Hezekiah i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I realize this vid is three years old but I found the documentation really wonderful to watch. I got two tiny 2.5 inch pots of sunrise over summer and was able to take cuttings in the fall and only rencently added them into the mother pot and I'm so delighed seeing all the leaf phases to this plant. Watching all the changes to your collection gives me ideas of what I might purchase in the spring so thank you!
Plantubers use $200 grow lights because they are given them for free, for promotional purposes. I have turned down probably a dozen people. Of course they cost more because of the advertisement. I'd rather just buy my own.
I have had a Hoya Sunrise for 1.5 years, got a ton of growth from it but the only leaves that were red were the original leaves it shipped with so THANK YOU for this!
It took my Hoya sunrise almost a year to change colors. Placed in the sun, it just kept putting out new growth of green leaves. The leaves even got a bit fried but still remained green. I decided to keep it in the same place where it gets lots of sun. Then this winter the whole plant started to show beautiful colors. I dunno if the season plays a part. Maybe the short daylight and the temperature drop in winter nights(no snow) are key to the change of colors?
Geez Louise!!!!!! Where have you been my whole plantee life?! I’m lovin your videos. Informative and entertaining. I NEED to see if my Sunrise has a “tan line”😂

I should check TicToc lol bc that seems like a bad idea but I'm curious
all those colors done by grow lights , amazing ,do you use the one color light or the three colors lights the blue red and white colors?and what is the diference? thank you
The difference is that white light contains all the spectrums and there is some plants don't use, but it does look better. If you don't care about how the light looks red and blue are more efficient.
My Fitchii did that & I panicked & moved it!! 😂 Also, the new leaf on my Rotundiflora is real deep burgundy! I hope It’s going to be ok cuz I left it under the lights!! 🌱🤍☀️
I recently read that if you sun stress Hoyas they’re more likely to have leaves die off in the winter. Did you experience this at all that you noticed? 😅
Hello Nick -- from a storm-battered, 'Tier 4' COVID Lockdown, BRIGHTON 🌈 UK Your videos are moments of sanity in the current darkness, thank you! Could you show us your Growhouse/Growlights set-up? I’m curious if temperature also has some effect on sun stress color. I live in Oklahoma and in the summer it’s sunny and hot af. In April and May I have great color on my succulents that are outside, but in July and August, when it’s upper 90s and into the 100s, my color is very bland. Colors start improving again in the fall until I have to start moving plants indoors in October. I have new grow lights this winter in my garage where I keep my plants that can take the cooler temps (probably gets down into the low 40s on really cold nights), and I have some of the most intense coloration on most everything. What are your thoughts and observations?
There is a thing with succulents called cold stress, that's probably what's going on, would not recommend that with Hoyas because they are a highly tropical group of plants for the most part.
@@phytosexual perrrrfect. Also really interesting to hear that you had the growlights on 24/7 - I've always heard that plants like /some/ hours of darkness to "rest" but I've never really understood it. Seems like your hoyas grew well for you without any rest!

I’m sure you can over-do practically anything. Of course energy is involved producing the pigments, and the pigments are involved protecting the plant from too much sun. I assume, ideally, the amount of light near sun stressing is probably the optimal amount of light for growth and flowering.
