I'm concerned about the steel cables eroding over time and not seeing rust buildup inside the housing, then catastrophic failure while on the highway. Does this unit have some sort of rain coating?
Thank you so much for the video! I have a simple but kind of stupid question. Will those hooks down the bottom and on top damage the trunk paint? I am living in a province in Canada where they use lots of salts in the winter after snow falls. And any damage on the paint will get the salts in quick and rust faster........ Many thanks!
It's not a stupid question at all! Anytime you have a piece of equipment in direct contact with the painted surface of a vehicle, the potential exists that the vehicle can get scratched. You can greatly minimize this by ensuring that the surfaces of the bike rack and vehicle that touch each other are 100% clean and free of dirt and grit. Don't leave the rack in place when you're not using it. Be sure to observe the weight capacity of the rack, and make sure you install it exactly as the install instructions state. You can also apply a good coat of a quality car wax to the surface of the hatch/trunk where the bike rack hooks mount or use some clear paint protection film on the painted surface for additional protection. All this being said, if you're very concerned about damage your best bet would be to avoid the potential all together and use a trailer hitch and a hitch mounted bike rack. If you would reply with the year/make/model of vehicle and the brand/model of the bikes, I'd be happy to make some suggestions for you. www.etrailer.com/Trunk-Bike-Racks/Thule/TH65JV.html
That’s an excellent review, very clear and exhaustive. Sad, you didn’t load a mtb or a e-mtb (es. Specialized Levo) just to have an idea if the clamp and the rail will fit such a big bike.
The rack has a 33 lb per bike capacity. During filming, we didn't have a mountain bike available that was light enough. From what we found online, the Levo weighs more than 33 lbs, so we wouldn't recommend carrying those. www.etrailer.com/Trunk-Bike-Racks/Thule/TH65JV.html
As long as the rack is installed according to the instructions and you don't exceed the 33 lb per bike capacity, you'll have no worries about the glass being damaged. www.etrailer.com/Trunk-Bike-Racks/Thule/TH65JV.html
@@etrailer It is mark3 supra 1987 model , non turbo . no rear spoiler . of course bike rack is priority for me . I will put soiler if there is more space.
Unfortunately, Thule doesn't have any fit information for that vehicle, so we couldn't say if it'll fit or not. The only viable option we'd offer is a roof mounted bike rack, which would involve installing a roof rack. Let us know if you'd be interested in that option and we'd be happy to make some recommendations.

You should have mentioned the license plate..we found out that some states will give you a ticket if they can't see your license..you can find the list on line
The license plate being exposed and the taillights not being blocked is a huge plus of this trunk mounted bike rack. If you have a plastic spoiler, you cannot use this bike rack. You would need to go with a bike rack like the Hollywood Racks Over-the Top trunk mounted bike rack. www.etrailer.com/Trunk-Bike-Racks/Thule/TH65JV.html www.etrailer.com/Trunk-Bike-Racks/Hollywood-Racks/HRF2.html

The Thule OutWay is not a great option for vehicles that do have a rear hatch trunk door. Check out the following link to see the Saris Bones 2 bike rack. It will work great on your 2018 Nissan Sentra. www.etrailer.com/Trunk-Bike-Racks/Saris/SA805BL.html
If your Lexus NX 300H has a rear spoiler, this rack may cause damage to it when a load is put on the bike rack. The Hollywood Racks Over the Top is designed specifically for vehicles that have a rear spoiler. If it blocks your license plate, you can add a license plate holder to it. www.etrailer.com/Trunk-Bike-Racks/Hollywood-Racks/HRF2.html www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Yakima/Y02713.html

Unfortunately, it's not. The Thule OutWay has a 33 lb per bike capacity. At 50+ lbs, your bike would be way too heavy. Your best bet would be to use a hitch and a hitch mounted bike rack. Let us know the year, make and model of your vehicle and we'd be happy to make some recommendations for you.

Also, I have two bottle cages, this rack looks like you can't clamp down where the second bottle cage goes. Is there a way around that?

is it suitable for ebike? (23 kilos without battery)
