Your dads boombox is wild, love that array of mini trs connectors for docking. Such bold shapes, colors, grid lines, and overly verbose feature labeling (I recently saw an electronic translator with "Pulse Code Modulation" proudly emblazoned across it) . Thats a great collection! Thanks for sharing it.
Oh Man! You got me with all of these Boomboxes... I used to have and collect them as well... I am always visiting Goodwill Stores and Salvation army... I picked up few decent ones from there, cleaned them up, and restored them... Pretty cool Video, Bro... Thank You for Sharing!
Haha, yeah I went way overboard when I made one massive purchase that doubled the size of the collection. Now I’m off-loading a whole bunch of them. I think I’ll stick to just the red ones.
There were at least a dozen models with turntables. The most popular one was the Sharp VZ2000. It had "linear tracking" which allowed you to play both sides of the album without changing sides.
Seems like the Brit’s are really getting into collecting vintage audio, watches and other gadgets from the 70’s and 80’s. If i was wrong about your accent, my apologies, but what I seem to notice from watching many RUclips videos. But I love it and glad these boomboxes are being loved again and appreciated.
Also I now like collecting the mini boomboxes bc of lack of space. I also can get carried away and buy and buy. Like last week I looked for some vintage Sony radios on eBay and in 2 days, I ended up buying 9. Lol! No wonder when ever I collect something, I end up surpassing other ppl. bc I am not easily satisfied and don’t know when to stop. Lol!
Do you buy them from flea markets, used electronic shops, eBay? Just wondering bc just looking at what’s available on eBay can be over whelming. Also, do you fox the belts?
Also, the problem is there are so many models that came out and still so many out there and hard to know which models to collect. Of course starting with the ones you like. Like this mini yellow Sanyo I saw and called outsider. Someone should open a museum for future generations to see. They just had a vintage audio exhibit in tye SFMOMA and it was incredible and another room full of vintage concert posters. Oh and they also for the first time at the museum had record benders for the first time and that was very cool. Glad the old love of records and stereo are coming back strong for the younger generation.
Nice. I had a similar collection (incl the Unisef featured in Call on Me) but it was difficult to keep during international moves once I realised none of them sounded half decent compared with current bluetooth speakers. It shows that we had in the 80s nothing than underpowered shiny boxes. If you have the space it surely is nice to watch. In the 80s designers could go all out on gear design. On the other hand, turntables from the 70s and 80s kept their functionality 100pct. I hope that designers from jbl and soundcore watch this video and take note.
Several 80s models do in fact sound very good, including the JVC M70, M90, Sanyo M9994 and MX820, Sharp GF9696, Panasonic RX7000 and RX7200, the list goes on. There's a huge difference between those models and the cheap lightweight Taiwanese models that came out later (after competition had forced everyone to reduce quality).

You are on my wavelength! Cheers :)

Cheers Alex. I guess it won't get that many views but it's something I wanted to do just for the nostalgia :)
@@gearfacts I am glad You did 😃 and You got my view
Some old gold in there... Keen to see the vid on that Fisher one with the keyboard.
Keen to make that video! :)
I had a JVC PC55 Portable Component system in the early 80s. Full logic, detachable tape deck with Dolby C. Amazing sound quality
OMG! I thought I was hooked on my synthesizer collection! It's ok. Whatever makes ya happy.

Great collection, thank you for sharing .
Excellent trip down the memories!
Yes it was!
There’s one with a record player. Can’t remember the manufacture, but all my friends were impressed.
Yes one of the other collectors I know has one. I have no idea how that needle stays in place...

@@80s_Boombox_Collector that’s the one I had. Thanks!
When I first saw that Fisher boombox/keyboard in the intro I thought it was the Casio one, as I was unaware that anyone else really tried it.
Some else suggested that it's a Fisher stereo and a Casio PT35 keyboard. Must have been a collaboration of some kind.
Can't wait for the Fisher review. Nice.
Coming soon!

I remember the Darth Vader Sanyo one when it was new.

Cheers! They’re so great :)
Very good.
Thank you :)
The Fisher is a Casio keyboard (PT-30)
Yep that sounds about right :)
The side of the boom box at the end is an AKAI. Which model tho?

Yes there's only one of these boomboxes that I'd consider to have decent sound quality.

I need sharp 777 do you have bro
I wish I did. That one is a beauty.
Ludicrous power ratings, graphic equalisers, LED lights, oversized cheap woofers.... 🎉🎉🎉
Such as dreams are made of :)
Better than soulless black plastic with nothing but a touchscreen on it.
