  • Vocal Coach Reacts DEMI LOVATO Anyone- Grammy Awards 2020 -Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
Probably the most vulnerable and powerfully honest Grammy performance I have ever seen!
That would be Demi Lovato and "Anyone."
My original reaction was to the "official" Grammy performance version, however the network has been pulling that video, so I wound up having to use the "Headless Horsewoman" version edited by Sesame Street who wants us to know our alphabet!
At any rate, I love the incredible passion Demi has delivered in this performance and it really speaks volumes about true great artistry.
Great song, great lyrics, great performance.
Not something the Grammys has been known for these days :-)
I hope you enjoy this performance as much as I did (even made me want to bust out my guitar at the end!).

Yes, that's true! Thank God she was spared to share her message with the world, to try and wake up humanity in us all... that we open our eyes and hearts to our fellow mankind and help them when they are suffering. It broke my heart when I heard it. People always think just because they are famous they have it all... that's what satan would like you to believe , but in truth the things that really matter are missing. That can ring true for most of us regular people to. Be present! ❤🙏❤

This song is heartbreaking. It's like we are listening to late and no one noticed she was suffering until she almost died. This song could have been her last and that's painful to think about. It's so personal but so universal at the same time.

Demi Lovato grew up with a father who was emotionally, physically and mentally abusive to her, her sister and her mum, she dealt with the issue by overeating. Her father was an addict and alcoholic, he was undiagnosed with Bipolar and Schizophrenia at the time. She wrote a song called ‘Warrior’ where some people feel like she’s saying he also sexually abused her too, but she has never publicly denied or confirmed it, that song is on her 2013 album ‘DEMI.’ She wrote other songs about her father like ‘World of Chances’ & ‘For the Love of a Daughter,’ she also wrote about him called ‘Shouldn’t Come Back,’ in the song it sounds like he’s trying to get back in contact with her, she hadn’t spoken to him since she was 14, she was 19 at this point, at the time she didn’t know he was dying from cancer, he passed away when she was 20, she regrets not having closure on that part of her life, that is why she wrote ‘Father,’ cause that was the only way she knew to deal with it, also forgiving him and letting go of all the hurt and pain he caused her. Demi said she realised as much as she hates her father, she’s exactly like him.
Demi got bullied at school, the kids made a suicide petition and all the kids signed it, she got bullied for her weight, which is when she started bingeing and purging, she started cutting herself, using drugs and drinking alcohol, she was only 12.
She became famous at 16 when she starred in the Disney movie ‘Camp Rock’ with the Jonas Brothers, she released her first album the same year called ‘Don’t Forget,’ she wrote a song called ‘Believe In Me,’ she wrote that song to herself, to inspire herself. She released another album in 2009 called ‘Here We Go Again,’ and in 2010 movie ‘Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam’ was released.
In 2010, she was on tour, making another album, working on her TV show called ‘Sonny with a Chance,’ at this point she stopped eating and was just living off drugs and alcohol, she said she was a horrible and mean person to deal with, she was losing the ability to sing, while on tour one of her backup dancer told everyone that Demi was using drugs, apparently she got on the plane and hit that backup dancer in the face and went to her seat and fell straight to sleep for about 15 hours. After that incident Demi was sent to rehab in October 2010, she didn’t really want to go, but she did it for everyone else, while she was in rehab she was diagnosed with Bipolar, she came out in the new year, she went to re-recorded ‘Skyscraper,’ but it didn’t have the same emotions as it did before she went into rehab, so the studio version we hear is the demo version.
While promoting her 2011 album ‘Unbroken,’ she secretly relapsed, at this point she was dating Wilmer Valderrama, he caught her out, she wrote a song about it in her 2017 album ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ (Target Version), the song is called ‘Ready For Ya,’ everyone around her found out, her family, her friends, her manager, everyone, they all said they will have nothing to do with her if she continues down this path, she decided to get help and in March 2012, she went and lived in a sober facility for a year, us fans didn’t know that until she told us in her 2017 RUclips documentary ‘Simply Complicated.’ She stayed sober for 6 years, while she was in the sober facility, she was releasing new music, recording her album ‘Demi’, she was a judge on the US X-Factor and had a role in Glee.
Her song ‘I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me,’ on her 2013 album ‘DEMI’ is about how fucked up she can be in relationships.
Her song ‘Nightingale on her 2013 album ‘DEMI’ is dedicated to her friend who committed suicide, in the song she’s calling for him to comfort her spiritually while she’s feeling lonely, depressed and empty. Demi says she’s a very spiritual person. She does dedicate the song to friends and family who have passed on since the release of the song.
Her song ‘You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore,’ on her 2017 album ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ is about breaking-up with her old ways, her old life and her addictions, but people had mistaken it for a normal relationship break-up song.
Her song ‘Smoke & Mirror’ which is feature on her 2017 album ‘Tell Me You Love Me‘ (Target Version), is about being in a relationship that is full of drugs, this is from her pre-recovery life, but she starts to question the relationship, are they really in love or are in a illusion of love because of the drugs.
In June 2018 she released a song called ‘Sober,’ in the song she confesses that she has relapsed, she apologising to everyone, when she mentions her dad in the song, she means her step-dad, she calls her step-dad, dad, she says when she talks about her biological father, she makes it a point to call him her birth father, she said her step-dad did the job of being father to her that her birth father never did, 33 days after the release of the song she had an overdose, she has been sober since July/August 2018. Demi has stated that she still deals with an eating disorder, she said it’s the first problem to develop and it the last one that won’t go away, she says she stills deals with body image issues.
By the way, Demi hasn’t released anything for over a year and a half, that’s the longest time ever for her, but I guess her main focus was to get sober and stay on the path of recovery. She got right back into her MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) training which is part of her recovery, she has a second degree blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, she does yoga, meditates, goes to therapy and attends AA & NA meetings as well for her recovery. She’s in the new season of ‘Will & Grace,’ playing a character named Jennifer who is Will’s surrogate.
I hope that gives you some insight to Demi Lovato and her life, even though she has gone through times of having suicidal thoughts, she feels like writing music, expressing her feelings, emotions and life in a song is therapeutic and then performing the songs and letting out her emotions in the songs is therapeutic, she says she does feel like music is the reason she’s still here, that it saved her life and hopes it saves other people’s lives who maybe going through the same things she’s been through or is going through, that they’re not alone, she always encourages her fans that are struggle to ask for help, that asking for help is not a weakness, it’s a strength, but now in her new song ‘Anyone’ music isn’t helping her through her issues

But that's not her point. I often leave the video before they finish talking, cause it breaks my heart that they still haven't "heard" her. Yes you're listening to her singing now, but generally we don't listen when people are in trouble and are crying for help. No, you were not listening to her before she reached this breaking point. So how about talking about how you would like to listen to her now, and try better to pay attention to people and be there for people? That's the message we should be getting. This should be a wake up call to all of us.

I get alot of hate from some of my friends for saying this, but shes one of my favourite female singers. I actually think her last album was phenomenal. When it came out, I bougth the CD and learned all the lyrics, and sang alone in my car every day for like a year orso. I used to call it guilty pleasure, but I've changed that opinion because I think that if you like something, it shouldn't be a problem. Good music is good music.
This performance was beautiful, and very touching. It takes guts to do something like that, especially after that start.
I also like that little lesson afterwards. One of the things I do as a guitar player is: I usually find the melody of the song and try to connect that to the chords. I don't really watch lessons anymore on how to play stuff. If I really want to play it like the original, I try to listen to the song and copy it.

I have to believe these deep-seeded emotions of loneliness and depression stem, in large part, from a complete lack of love for oneself. We tend to rely too heavily upon a world that races by with its own agenda. Throw a young singer in front of millions of fans and it can close you in to a feeling of self-against-the-world isolation no doubt. There has to be personal connection for all humans to feel any sort of value at some point along this mysterious journey. I hope Demi finds her joy because she's a beautiful girl with amazing abilities. This got me big time. Thank you, Ken, for being honest and up front. You are the real deal as a teacher and as a person . I’m a 52 yr old momma who wants to give Demi a hug so bad ! I listen to her and look up to her vocally. Wow. Just wow. Thank you for honoring her this way . To think she may not have survived to sing this . Btw , she just SLAYED the National Anthem for the Super Bowl 2020. I think Demi is back .

That is what is so powerful about singing. We can sing about funny things. We can sing about boring things. We can sing about being at the brink. If we have control of our voice, we can then let it be the conduit to the world of what we are feeling deep down inside. There is incredible power in potential of the singing voice.

    • @cadeevans4623
      @cadeevans4623 4 года назад

Yes a lot of singers may act like their fine usually in front of a crowd but maybe deep down inside their battling with depression and suicidal thoughts maybe there's probably a lot of singers in the world that are unhappy and depressed which is sad and they put their feelings into songs I feel sorry for the ones out there who are truly unhappy but music is emotional no matter what kind it is it plays with the emotions and make people sad it has feeling it and can be very powerful to at the same time Ken

I admire her! I also have struggled with addiction and most addicts also suffer some level of depression. I'm at a good place now emotionally, and have almost 4 years clean from heroin, but I'm no stranger to that darkness! This was heartbreaking, painful to watch, but beautiful, if that makes sense. I was watching it live and the raw and pure emotion made it perfection. As a song writer I so get the lyrics. My songs are a journal of my soul. When nobody hears my songs or ignores what I am saying, this is what I feel.

I said this on another reaction video but I'll put here too. For me, the best part of songs made from raw emotion is when you can feel the energy of it in your bone, down to every last atom in your being. When it shakes you at your core. That's something powerful, and it's why I believe music is the universal language and form of expression because no matter where you are from or who you are that power can be felt.
