So in other words your using the occulus go like a regular occulus and playing the games through your computer right? It would be really cool if we could actuall play these games on the headset itself.. My computer is pretty out dated to play any intensive newer games.. so this probably wouldn't work for me.. I thought the cell phone engines today were pretty powerful.. i guess not cause it seems like the oculus go can only run regular phone type apps.
Yeah it's only Gear VR type mobile games. Keep an eye out for the Santa Cruz headset from Oculus, it has more powerful internals and Oculus are showing developers how they can port thier full VR games to it. Will cost more but be a truer VR experience (without a PC). Still won't be as good as a Rift, but image how heavy it would need to be to have full PC internals in it.
Thanks for the response. Yeah, that is true, but the computing power is getting pretty high tech and small these days.. Im sure a powerful phone type computer could run more advanced games than just the demos.. i think its simply because no one is programming full titles for it yet.
Guinea54 nvdia is releasing Nvdia Go. Basically you can play High graphics powered games on any computer so long as you have good connection. It works by letting them do the heavy hardware workload and streaming it to your computer. So basically you could try to stream steamvr to your computer and then use riftcat to stream your streamed steam vr to your oculus go. Lol a stream within a stream. Then for multiple controller you can use an xbox 360 kinect to track your movement for 6dof and then use any other controller (like ps3 vr wand) and connect it for a full vr experience. Very difficult to set up and many spots for the game to get laggy and unresponsive, but many people make jt work.
very interesting.. Is that like a subscription service? I think i have 1000 mbps connection. I always wondered why they can't do that.. sounds interesting, but streaming twice might be a little too much especially in games where you need a really good reaction time.
There are a few streaming services already, Vortex Gaming is one, they have an app you can sideload but you can't really control the game until full controller support is added to Oculus TV. Be great once it is.
Sure here you go. ruclips.net/video/yOJIedvkZB0/видео.html Just note Beat Saber has been updated since and you can turn off obstacles and play one handed.

Yours is the third 'guide' I've read and the only one which has 'worked' so far. But, the image of the room is very unstable, breaking up with the slightest movement. While many apps on the Go work really well, some seem unstable in this way, though this is the worst of the lot. Virtual Desktop, Neverthink, but are almost unusable. Do I need a better graphics card? My current is ASUS GTX 760 Appreciate all you do and hope you or someone can advise.
Yeah I would suggest a better GPU, it needs the nvidia codec and I'm surprised that one works at all. A good Internet/WiFi connection helps a lot as well.

The go controller doesn't have enough buttons to work with the games... I can't even get past the SteamVR tutorial because it wants me to press buttons that don't exist on it.
@@RaMarcus Then after the tutorial I still can't do anything, even SteamVR Home and almost every VR game requires grip buttons and all these other buttons I have no idea what they are, that the Go doesn't have. Hey there, I'm looking for some numbers about this streaming-to-standalone solution, could you help me? - How much WiFi bitrate does it require? 1MB/sec? 3? 5? Does it lag a lot an the normal (2.4GHz) WiFi? - Does it use the standalone headset processor? Does it change performance on the computer? For example, will a game that normally uses 50% of the computer GPU use less or more power? I have a 5GHz WiFi and a VR-Ready laptop, so I'm not really asking for me. It's more of a curiosity, as I'm really interested in this solution, so I want to know the current limits. I own a Rift and love it, but I would love to get the Quest if I can connect it to my PC. That would be a nice upgrade in my opinion.
You can set the bitrate in ALVR (give it a download and see for yourself). And 100% of the game processing is done by the PC, if anything the PC will be used more as its streaming it to the headset.

Glad you got it to work. What did you try playing?
I had the same problem until I disabled my antivirus and then it worked for me.
You’re a life saver, Thank you!
Won’t work it says “steam vr critical error” plz help
Reboot your PC and only open ALVR and let it open Steam etc.

Man, if this works with the Oculus Quest with it's motion controllers, this is going to be awesome!
Agreed, fingers crossed 🤞

I have an AMD card with vr ready? It should work lol
would a gtx 1060 6gb work? It's not really high end but i wanna know if its good enough
Yeah, it's what I have in my laptop and works fine. 👍
RaMarcus thank god!
Thanks for replying and showing me this video!🙂
Does this work in windows 7/window vista
Windows 10 only.

This is awesome I’ll try this tomorrow

Will it work on oculus quest
Unknown at the moment but chances are high it will.
RaMarcus thanks
RaMarcus ok thanks
You mention accessories for 6DoF... but has anyone simply used Vuforia or OpenCV to track a target on the front of the headset through a webcam...?
Not that I'm aware of but maybe. 🤔 Is that similar to what Driver4vr does?
I know that nolo can help you get 6dof and 2 controllers, but I don't know about vuforia and opencv
Will a gtx 1050 work ok?
Yeah
Thanks for the heart and reply, gonna download alvr now :D
As lang as you pair it with a decent Core i5.
Thanks for making this video. I tried it yesterday and must say its awesome.. better thn riftcat. also its free :)
The perfect price. Glad you found it useful! 😉👍
this does not make sense, i need newer instructions, this is outdated
Nice job at almost 1,000 subscribers
The dream, the real dream! 😁
Great guide but could you show a demo for beat saber doing this please! Thanks so much
Sure here you go. ruclips.net/video/yOJIedvkZB0/видео.html
Just note Beat Saber has been updated since and you can turn off obstacles and play one handed.

Update your Nvidia drivers on the nvidia website.
Pretty much everything went great except for one thing, I tried to play a game but it acts like the headset is on the ground, how do I fix that?
Try and run the Steam VR room set up. Or reboot everything and try again. 😉
My current is ASUS GTX 760
Appreciate all you do and hope you or someone can advise.
Yeah I would suggest a better GPU, it needs the nvidia codec and I'm surprised that one works at all. A good Internet/WiFi connection helps a lot as well.
@@RaMarcus Possibly a new graphics card, next year maybe. When I bought my GTX 760 it was 2ed in the hirearchy chart, now it's 8th! www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
Internet, not so. On about 50M bps. (Virgin). Used to have the 100M bps, but it was way too expensive.
It is quite strange that some apps have so much lag while others run perfectly.
Thanks so much for getting back. I confess I haven't played any games with my Go at all so far. I spend all my time watching, mostly RUclips. Really makes a difference watching Callan in a simulated environment.
But it will be great to play Elite Dangerous on my Go.
When I do it on the Mac it doesn’t open
Windows only I'm afraid. There isn't a solution for Mac.
I just got the oculus go. Don't have a computer. Anyway I'll be able to play games thru steam or do I need to invest in a computer. Or should I just buy a PlayStation or Xbox. What's the cheapest route.
Either way you'll need a PC to use this. You can play some Steam games with a cloud PC with this video ruclips.net/video/pVZL4bpyB4Q/видео.html
how to play steam on oculus go..YOU ARE SCREWD IF YOU DONT HAVE PC
True, the Go is no where near powerful enough to play Steam games. You can try cloud gaming like this ruclips.net/video/pVZL4bpyB4Q/видео.html
@RaMarcus it works great. My only problem is that I cannot play games where I move around because in steamVR, I can’t draw the line where I don’t run it on things. Any help would be great!
Just set up a standing set up.
Is a gaming computer needed for this?
Yes you need a nvidia system and be able to run the games on your PC.
Is a gtx 1050 good?
Yeah it should be fine. 👍
PC only, they don't have a Mac version I'm afraid.
RaMarcus will a windows 7 upgraded to a windows 10 work
Would it ever be possible to use this in shadow tech because they’re on different WiFi but I would love it
Shadow PC? I know people do, it has latency but does work. I've not tried it myself though.
Do you know for sure if ALVR is safe and without malware?
I don't know for sure, but I've not heard of any issues like that with it and I believe github community would find issues like that pretty quick.
It's on Github with the source code, so if there was it would have been found and you'd know about it by now.
Damn! Love this channel! thanks
😊👍
Marcus, I did everything you said but have hit a snag, apparently ALVR came out with a new release v2.3.0, I did everything like before w the v.2.1.5 but with the new version because the key is the new release on the oculus go... needless to say, I removed everything and started again w v.2.3.0 but it wont connect w steam a pop up error comes up... do you know if the new release has problems, can you please look into this. I just got the oculus go and would love to connect to steam. :) thanks a bunch!!!
The main issue people have is out of date Nvidia drivers. Make sure you check the nvidia website for the latest drivers.
this is what its say ALVR SERVER HAS CRASHED: NvEnc CreateEncoder failed. Code=8 NvEncoder::CreateEncoder : m_nvenc.nvEncInitializeEncoder(m_hEncoder, &m_initializeParams) returned error 8 at c:\src\alvr\alvr_server
vencoder.cpp:271
That sounds like a Nvidia issue. Have you checked you have the latest drivers and still get this?
just checked it has the mot updated driver than I looked up what kind of video card is installed - its NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745.
If your drivers are up to date you can try some of the more recent versions of ALVR and see if they work. After that you'll need to speak with the Creators of ALVR and see if they have any idea.
Me: sees this trying to do it
My pc: dont even think about it
When i start their server it starts steam vr but it doesn’t start the server
Try rebooting everything to start a fresh.

@@RaMarcus i have amd radeon card, not nvidia. But my card software is up to date. Other options? :(
AMD support it experimental so may not work I'm afraid. Check the questions section of where you downloaded ALVR to see if there are any fixes.
EVERYBODY HERE IF YOU HAVE AMD ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS INSTALL NVIDIA DRIVERS
I have a compact motherboard with a built in graphics card. Why won't it work for me? I have windows 10, and I can install everything, but it stops working when I hit start server. The version that I downloaded is the same as what is on my headset. It just keeps sending me a crash report that I don't understand
Is your PC able to play games? The PC itself is running the games so it's needs to be decent.
The go controller doesn't have enough buttons to work with the games... I can't even get past the SteamVR tutorial because it wants me to press buttons that don't exist on it.
Skip the tutorial. 👍
@@RaMarcus Then after the tutorial I still can't do anything, even SteamVR Home and almost every VR game requires grip buttons and all these other buttons I have no idea what they are, that the Go doesn't have. Seems like the only option is to spend another $200 on that Nolo system with the better controller, but at that point I may as well have spent $600 on an actual VR headset than the scam that is Oculus Go. lol
@@CogniVision you can buy a cheap controller or install a app that allows you too play a vr controller with your phone
Have you ever tried skyrim on the oculus go? I read that it works good in GearVR, so im assuming it also works with the go? IM assuming you can't use a game controller that connects to the Oculus go, but one that connects to your pc?
It works great with the controller connected to the PC. 👍
Thank you for the help my friend.. Is ALVR still the recommended method these days?
Sure, it's free and uses the Go controller if you need it. It's my preferred method. You can chekc out Nolo Home or VRidge if you prefer them.
@@RaMarcus I will just go with your recommendation unless one of those options has better streaming quality or anything?
I know some people get better performance from each of these, so just keep them in mind if the free ALVR doesnt perform very well for you. Works perfectly for me.
I subbed today your backlog of videos are great I'm sure you will be making a video like this for the Quest if its possible? I have a Vive but would love to play some games like elite dangerous in higher resolution.

Good day! I recently saw a video with the Xbox 360 wireless steering wheel being used for driving games on the Oculus Go. Have you ever set this up?
No, I don't own one. Sorry.

Hey there,
I'm looking for some numbers about this streaming-to-standalone solution, could you help me?
I'd like to use the Oculus go with Vrchat. But I'm not sure if It would work very well... Would I only be able to move one hand? would it be functional at all?
Hopefully this is answered..
Yeah it works with one hand but it's easier to just use mouse and keyboard. 👍
@@RaMarcus Thanks! But I have an easier way to the solution, I've got my eyes on Windows mixed reality. Almost the same price as oculus, and you don't have to do all this!

sorry for asking so many questions but I launched the air light vr app and I went back to alvr and it said wrong version also in my vr it says alvr client v.2.3.1
Have you installed the lasted version on your PC? It's been updated since this video.
yea its all cought up
@@RaMarcus I'm also having a problem with his version. Keep getting the "Unhanded exception has occurred in your application" error. I removed all trace of ALVR, uninstalled SteamVR and made sure the SteamVR folder was deleted from the C drive, and then re-did everything, but I keep getting the same error and I don't have a client option to select the older version.
Try a different version number of ALVR, thats worked for some people.
@@RaMarcus I was using the one that my Ocolus Go said to open, 2.3.1. Would it run with a different version on my computer? I wasn't given an option for which version to put on the Ocolus Go.
I wonder if this will working for Euro/American Truck simulator with a xbox one controller. In theory it should.. but im on the fence about this.
At the very least you can move your head around, so if the rest is controller based you'll be fine. You could also try side loading the Steam Link app and just play it as normal but in the headset, near zero delay.
RaMarcus excellent. I will definitely test this out and post some results

Here you go:
READ THIS. TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS.
Install Steam VR
Install the latest version of ALVR
Open ALVR, go to the last tab and install the drivers
Install the ALVR app on your Oculus Go
Reboot your PC, do Not open Steam
Open ALVR and start server, Steam VR should open
Open ALVR on your Oculus Go
In ALVR on your PC connect to your Oculus Go on the first tab
All should be working in your Oculus Go
If it's not working for any reason, check you have the latest nvidia drivers for your GPU. Go to the nvidia website to check, do NOT use Windows update as it won't include everything you need.
Make sure the version of ALVR on your Go and the PC are the same version number.
If you're unsure how to download Steam VR, Click on library, then select tools from the drop down box and scroll down till you see SteamVR.
Reboot everything and only open ALVR, do Not open Steam first.
If you appear in the floor, run the Room set up in Steam VR for standing, just keep pressing next.

Have you been to the Nvidia website to get the drivers?
Hi RaMarcus, your Oculus GO Video are always the best !!!
I have successfully installed ALVR for my GO. I play for example, Project Cars 2 with SteamVR and it's incredible. My 2 questions: it seems ALVR with GO emulates an HTC Vive. Could it emulate an Oculus Rift S ?? Second: Which is the best/cheapest way to add a second controller, to emulate a FULL HTC Vive, so I can play games that require 2 controllers ?
Can you pair two controllers?
That would be game changing..!
Not use at the same time. Maybe one day.
Hi, I have a problem. I tried to install this version but my antivirus did not make me the server. so I ran the last version (2.3.1 if I'm not mistaken) but when I start the server crashes ( translated with google translator )
Make sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers. And reboot everything and only open ALVR and let it open Steam VR, don't open it manually.
@@RaMarcus ok then I miss the nvidia drivers. but what are these drivers? Do I have to download them?
Go to Nvidia.com and find the drivers for your Graphics card.
@@RaMarcus my video card is an AMD radeon r9 370. not good for nvidia right?
No. This onlt has experimental support for AMD cards. Make sure go to the AMD site and update them. But it may not work if you don't have a Nvidia card.

Hey RaMarcus can you add World of Warcraft to steam as you would many pc games to the library and get that to work do you think? I know WoW has a side by side vr mode because people have found it. Downloading alvr and all the goods tonight so I can attempt something like this but just curious if you have already tried any non "steamVR" type games in sbs through this platform.
Don't use this for none VR games. Either sideload the Steam Link app and use that in Oculus TV or get the Virtual Desktop app and mirror your display to the Go. Much better. 👍
