This is a great example of how mental illness affects so many people and not just the people who are mentally ill. He took a gut punch for or from his brother. I had a similar gut punch from a family member last year. I can totally sympathize with Sam. The good thing is Sam is curious about his own being and willing to develop it. He is self aware.
You can't control other people. Be grateful for the time you spent with your brother pre-schizophrenia. That's gotta suck even more for him. Do everything you can moving forward to support him and celebrate him because you still love him.
