Got to give a big love shout-out to the Film Riot crew for recommending the Panasonic G7. I just bought one as my Christmas present to me. It is my first really decent camera, and the more I play with it, the more familiar I become with what it can do, the more I love it. I do have my sights set on an A7s2 or GH5 , probably next year, but the G7 does everything I will need it to do very well for the time being. Big thanks for this channel. I learn something every time I watch it, even though I am not a film maker and don't ever anticipate doing anything at the level you guys aspire to, the concepts and techniques are adaptable to a huge range of circumstances and equipment.
could you guys make a video talking about over and under exposure, when to use it, and the pros and cons of both? I think that would be really good info
I used to be obsessed with new cameras and kit, but since I bought my BMPCC about a year and bit ago Ive been completely satisfied. I love the image and ive been obsessing over different lighting techniques instead.
You would never actually go that high, but whats great about it is that the under 20000 ISO range is all very usable and looks great which can allow you use the camera in run and gun situations with not a lot of lights.
Currently using a Panasonic G7 and have been very impressed with it thus far! However, I may consider investing in a GH5. Also, I'm a sixteen-year-old filmmaker and have made two big projects on this channel so far: The Sniper (a short film) and Art Less (web series)! I would love any type of feedback on any of my work. Thanks guys
Just bought the URSA Mini 4.6k and absolutely love it. Fits perfectly with my Sigma Art Series lenses for what I need to accomplish. I've handed the footage to many high end Camera Ops & DITs. Most cant tell the difference between this and an Alexa Mini. Only Complaint is low ISO capabilities.
loving my BMPCC, it's so compact and easy to use yet provides fantastic flat and cinematic images, it may only be 1080p, but is sensational nonetheless
My two favourite cameras of the year have been my trusty FS100 (Mostly personal projects) and the Red Epic-W (client work). I also had a chance to grade some C300 footage recently, and it's pretty fun to mess with, though certain aspects of it that were baked in by the operator of that project made it less-than-ideal.
Shot a music video recently with the A7s II and it is truly amazing, lighting was done easier and quicker since and I didn't have to worry much about the noise. It's biggest flaw is the innacurate color rendering in some situations where I have to tweak in post the get the right tones, but overall great camera. I'm thinking about buying the a6300 since it's way cheaper and does the job almost as good.
For 1080p, the Canon 80D is a really solid camera for the money. On a handheld setup, I can focus pull many shots with the touch screen and its killer autofocusing features. In my nearest future I'd love to own or rent the C100 Mark II or the C300 as my A camera and the canon 80D as my B camera.
My favorite cameras are the hitachi sk hd 1200, great to use when doing big events, these are good go to cams for any event work that has a higher budget. The colors in these sensors are truly beautiful. Now for cheaper able to own cams, the jvc ls300 is i think amazing and a helluva lot cheaper than any other video camera with the same features, check it out. then there is the sony rx10 mark 2, the good ol gh4, and of course the new panasonic fz 2500. All great options, especially those hybrid cams, that way you can have a great cam with great glass and not have to spend 5k on lenses. Also a runner up would be the panasonic dvx200. if you dont need to change lenses, that is a kick ass cam. (all under 5k)
i got a panasonic GH4 for my birthday (as i want to make films) and its super great so far. really digging it! ima save for that URSA mini though; that looks gorgeous
I don't really have a camera dedicated to video recording, but I have Nexus 6P which surprisingly has nice video for phone quality. I did a very short video trying it out in the summer, I think it turned out pretty well.
Brent Narvie Nice! I just checked it out. I personally have the Nexus 6P as well. Best camera I have ever had on a phone. And the 4K comes out really nice.
Yo! FILM RIOTERS!! I WANTED TO SEE how they do that freeze everything while the person is in the air (jumping) and circle the camera around him shot. (The shot is an exterior one and it's definitely not people holding their breath. lol) Also I wanted to see that bullet slow mo track thingy with the EXTREMEE Closeup of the bullet till it HITS! Have fun shooting ;)
Killer episode guys. Please could you do one about the computers you use or just Ryan's beast of a machine. I'm sure we'd all love to know what works best for editing video from 1080 to 4k. If you have any recommendations or links that would be great as well. Thanks :)
hi film riot before 2 months I was planning to buy Ursa mini 4.6 k ,but now I saw Panasonic gh5 ,is both cameras are same quality approximately ? I'm afraid of cfast2.0 cards its little expensive na , I want to make short films , shoot some functions etc , so plz suggest me which one is the good quality camera plz plz
I used the 5d mk2 with magic lantern getting that nice raw look which is awesome... but now i sold it and got the sony a6300 for the sweet 120 fps slowmo and the 4k (donwgraded 6k) with slog which is really something to work with! I would love to get my Hands on an ursa mini:)
RUclips is just disgusting with it's compression. I'm sure the majority of this footage was beautiful, but YT just destroyed it. Great video as always Film Riot!
Yeah, you cant really go wrong, however we dont know how good video af will be, which is essential for gimbal work. Other than that though, you can do anything.
What's the learning curve like from a DSLR to some of these options? Really looking into possibly upgrading soon, but need one that I'd be able to get a good grip on in a short amount of time for business and what not. Should I test out some and see where that gets me?
For starter filmmakers looking for a good budget camera would you go with Fujifilm X-T series or with Panasonic GH4 or Rebel Ti´s? What is your opinion and suggestion on something not so expensive like an A7s? Awesome to get an answer... Thanks!
I'm not giving up! I will get your attention and you will tell us if you're ever doing Monday Challenges ever again! I have posted on every one of your videos for the past 4 weeks, asking about the challenges. Please! TELL US! I'm not looking for likes, but please get their attention. Sincerely -An anxious film maker after studying for final
You shoot SLOG3 with A7SII? I have the horizontal noise issue which makes the footage noisy as hell. Im sure you use the Cine 1,2 or 4 for lowlight but what about scenes during the day?
Went to a filmmaking fest over the last 2 weeks - got to shoot on an a7s II, a C100, Alexa Classic, 5D MkIII, FS7. While grading, the alexa stood way above everything else.. so uncrushable and s-so lush - and shockingly simple to use! I will post a 30 sec 'Quicky' we shot on the alexa after it does the festive rounds that I'm sure the Film Riot crew will frikkin love! Not sure if the US has Kino Kabarets or if you've heard of kino00.com in Montreal but I recommend it to anyone!
Read up on it man! It's very competitive for directors to get in but free for crew - I think - I've only been to European kinos so far but Montreal apparently has the highest standard and I think they collaborate with an animation school nearby with someone specializing in drawn-on-film (Mind Melting on a big screen). Not sure if I'll make Montreal but you should definitely make it a priority cuz kino is unbelievably fun and intense. Good luck!
Hi Ryan, have any sense to buy a Canon C100 Mark II in 2017? I'm tired of using dsrl's for video, but I'm afraid the C100's could be old technology and Canon may launches a new model with 4K this year. As I usually use it for live events, I do not really need 4K, but I do not want to lose money investing in old equipment. Thanks!
Hey Ryan! You mentioned the c300 had really good audio. Does the c100 II have similar audio? I was looking at it for documentary work, run and gun filmmaking where I might plug XLRs directly into the camera, and also nature stuff where a long shotgun mic would pick up bird chirps or animal sounds from far off. It's the only thing in my budget tbh but still would like to know if I can look forward to really good audio. Thank you :)
Dear Film Riot, there has been a bit of excitement surrounding the new GOOGLE PIXEL phone and it's superior smart phone camera. If it's not too much trouble I would really appreciate an overview of the camera and the different ways one could get the best image out of it. this would be a great help for me. hope you are well
getting student loan funds to invest in my production stuff. My plan is to get a mac that can better run adobe AE, Premiere/Final Cut, and any videocopilot plug ins without making my mac CRASH or take forever. I understand rendering is inevitable. My second investment besides Videocopilot "everythings" is a good camera. been using my iphone but just dont dig it. I need to film at night sometimes and want crisp quality. I love manual focus while handheld (my style) and using panning a lot. My plan is to make any short fiilms but with using AE/3D elements with it not looking like an effect. Dont wanna spend too much more than 1K for each
I am not looking for new information. I am looking for professional cameras in my price range. This video showed comparisons, and talked about prices and practicality. That allows me to look up each camera. Now this video may not be useful for you, but for me, it is.

Hey Ryan, when you go to the movies are you able to tell what camera they shot with based on color correction? Without prior knowledge of what camera they used :p
You can't tell what camera was used when watching a film. You may be able to tell if its film or digital but you cant tell what camera specifically. The color correction is done on a computer and can be done with any number of programs it doesn't really have to do with the camera specifically.
Great video, we really rely on you guys to give us tips on filmmaker to make our sketches better, and you guys always deliver!
I want to see you grade the URSA mini footage.
Got to give a big love shout-out to the Film Riot crew for recommending the Panasonic G7. I just bought one as my Christmas present to me. If you are reading this, I hope you have an amazing day/night!
Dave Hukka oh haha I've always wanted to visit Australia 😬
GreatestGreat fuck you it's midday
My Name my bad man, mid day is good too 😂
Cylixir hey!
Don't tell me how to live my life.
could you guys make a video talking about over and under exposure, when to use it, and the pros and cons of both? I think that would be really good info
Ursa mini, It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine
I used to be obsessed with new cameras and kit, but since I bought my BMPCC about a year and bit ago Ive been completely satisfied. I love the image and ive been obsessing over different lighting techniques instead.
I didn't realise how insane the low light was on the A7! Although why you'd ever want to go that high I don't know.
You would never actually go that high, but whats great about it is that the under 20000 ISO range is all very usable and looks great which can allow you use the camera in run and gun situations with not a lot of lights.
Got the A7s II for some months now and I'm totally happy with this camera. Thanks again for your review on this one!
"Starting with out cheapest the A7S II" $4000 CAD lol
Sorry Film Riot, OUR favorite cameras are still Phantom Flex 4K and Phantom V2512 ;-). just need a server room to process the footage. lol
Awesome job
Film Wire I also use a G7 and it's great
Excellent film. You will go far. :)
Gh5 is going to be one of the best cameras for the money!
Roger Bloemers Thank you for your kind words and for watching!
Came to drool. That Alexa is sweet!
I'm an 18 year old vlogger and I've been using my GH4, love it so much.
Liam Suttie I own a GH4 too! Such a great camera.
So, we're never going to see Kramer's short for the FRES, huh?
kurt lindner lol been waiting a While
kurt lindner well Andrew's philosophy is it's better to do work and make it late and make it great, than to release subpar work.
I want to try the ursa mini so bad!
I love the Ursa Mini. I've used it twice and I think it will be my next big purchase.
loving my BMPCC, it's so compact and easy to use yet provides fantastic flat and cinematic images, it may only be 1080p, but is sensational nonetheless
Who needs notifications when you live on youtube?
Amen to that.
My two favourite cameras of the year have been my trusty FS100 (Mostly personal projects) and the Red Epic-W (client work).

It would be really great to see another list for cameras below the $2000 mark. Oh please grant my wish sweet Film Riot gods!

I just shot my short film with a Nikon D5100. It actually seemed to handle surprisingly well in candle light situations with a 70-210mm lens
The things I think that matter in a camera are sensor shift, super high iso ability, and being able to shoot log.
Wow that anamorphic looks good damn.
Hey Film riot, I was wondering if you can show me how to make the lightning streaks like when the flash runs?
My favourite camera: the one I have access to. I'm still shooting on a 5D mkII but it's getting the job done. Maybe someday...
Yo! FILM RIOTERS!!
I WANTED TO SEE how they do that freeze everything while the person is in the air (jumping) and circle the camera around him shot. (The shot is an exterior one and it's definitely not people holding their breath. lol)

Daggy Inc. Yeah. I also wanna know how they do it. :/
Hibban Ashraf well let's hope they make an episode on this stuff
Daggy Inc. I think they use still photography and a lot of cameras...
How?
I guess they could place cameras around the actor and click at the same time?
How do you feel about the Sony a6500?
I'm looking forward to shooting a couple shorts on the Panasonic FZ2500. I'm really liking the footage I've been getting out of it.
Great job guys! Love the channel!
I'm still saving up for the c100 mk 2. great video.
film riot i love what you do, but can you do more tutorials and short films 😄
Our production favorite at current d last year is sony a6300 was looking for review on it film riot
Killer episode guys. Please could you do one about the computers you use or just Ryan's beast of a machine. I'm sure we'd all love to know what works best for editing video from 1080 to 4k. If you have any recommendations or links that would be great as well. Thanks :)
should I get the red one MX I'm only 13 so I can't have anything to heavy and it has to fit in my bag
Can U get an Alexa Mini (ish) look out of the A7s? If so - how?
could you do the best super low budget cameras of 2016?? so like under $1200
hi film riot before 2 months I was planning to buy Ursa mini 4.6 k ,but now I saw Panasonic gh5 ,is both cameras are same quality approximately ? On the note of rentals, have you ever checked out any of the rental houses in Dallas?
Ryan you've avoided blackmagic for years, they do one sponsorship with u and now it's ur favorite camera lmao
audio is so good here compared to the old videos, what changed?
The C300 is bang for the buck mental while the URSA has a Fisher Price lens.
Film Riot shall you buy the new Panasonic GH5???????????? :--) i shall
looks really good the gh5. might be a winner
Svein Arne Nesøy are you Norwegian? i am :-)
Yeah, you cant really go wrong, however we dont know how good video af will be, which is essential for gimbal work. Other than that though, you can do anything.
stemmer. ekte viking
They'll probably get the review unit for free anyway.
What's the learning curve like from a DSLR to some of these options? Really looking into possibly upgrading soon, but need one that I'd be able to get a good grip on in a short amount of time for business and what not. Should I test out some and see where that gets me?
Lost Utopia Films
It's just a matter of learning where the menus are and stuff.
no problems with magenta cast with the Ursa?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a beginner film making camera on a budget? I really want to get into the short dramatic/horror film thing
So you said URSA Mini is best camera under 10k. What do you think of URSA mini compared to Sony FS-7?
PLEASE do a review on the GH5!
Well the only two cameras I have it'd have to be my iPhone 6s Plus & my Sony a6300
can you do a tutorial on how they did the water for sky effect in the "bounce back" music video
For starter filmmakers looking for a good budget camera would you go with Fujifilm X-T series or with Panasonic GH4 or Rebel Ti´s? What is your opinion and suggestion on something not so expensive like an A7s? Awesome to get an answer... Thanks!
Esteban Medellín I'm also wondering about this.
Awesome. Better review than the 2016 movies. Hey. Sorry bout that troll thingy.
Hey Ry, can you do a review on the canon 1dx mark II? I heard that is very good and I want to see what you think about it
Can I point out that the a7S and a7S II both can shoot in 4k?
I'm not giving up! I will get your attention and you will tell us if you're ever doing Monday Challenges ever again! I have posted on every one of your videos for the past 4 weeks, asking about the challenges. Please! TELL US! I'm not looking for likes, but please get their attention. Sincerely

Saving for c100 mark II, thoughts?
Ryan, what do you think of Sony FS7?
I was thinking of purchasing FS7 II when it's comes out this month
I love seeing my camera in videos c:
What was the name of the song from the alexa mini footage montage?
I would be eternally grateful if you uploaded the Alexa footage somewhere for us to test color with it ;)
You shoot SLOG3 with A7SII? I have the horizontal noise issue which makes the footage noisy as hell. Im sure you use the Cine 1,2 or 4 for lowlight but what about scenes during the day?
G7 Still Rocks
I own a DSLR and an iPhone 7 and I tested out he Filmic Pro app and I honestly think it's better than MY DSLR
man pls do an episode about cameras on a buget
what is the song that u use in the min 6.00?
First time I haven't heard josh say something in the back
What do you think of the Red Raven?
Went to a filmmaking fest over the last 2 weeks - got to shoot on an a7s II, a C100, Alexa Classic, 5D MkIII, FS7. Sleepy Shorts Oh wow this is so cool!! I'm moving to Montreal this autumn to study in cinema, so this is really interesting! Thanks 😄

what would you say is the best cam around 1000 atm?
@Ryan @Film Riot, have you tried the eoshd pro color profile on the sony a7sii yet? Its amazing from what I've seen.
I LOVE C100 M1
OOOOoooooh YEEEEAAAAHHHHH CASSOULET !
good video man
ur awesome brother..love from India..
You guys. Just awesome
Hello Ryan, what camera would you advice for filming pranks from far away so that the subject doesn't see the camera of course?
Hi Ryan, have any sense to buy a Canon C100 Mark II in 2017?
I'm tired of using dsrl's for video, but I'm afraid the C100's could be old technology and Canon may launches a new model with 4K this year. As I usually use it for live events, I do not really need 4K, but I do not want to lose money investing in old equipment. Thanks!
I use the canon T6i!
If I only could afford these xD
FS7?
What (other than AS7) is your fav dslr? have you seen the mdx1 from canon?
Anand Jain 1dxmk2 you mean?
Wooo! Under 300 club!
Dear Film Riot,
there has been a bit of excitement surrounding the new GOOGLE PIXEL phone and it's superior smart phone camera. I myself have the Pixel and as an aspiring filmmaker I have limited resources at my disposal. If it's not too much trouble I would really appreciate an overview of the camera and the different ways one could get the best image out of it. this would be a great help for me. hope you are well
Hi, I'm thinking about getting the Canon 80D. Is any better camera would you recomed at the same price? Thanks. Quick tips rules!
Is it a shame that it’s 2019 and I’m looking at this video to see which camera I should upgrade to from what I have now?
which camera is best x5r or gopro 4k
getting student loan funds to invest in my production stuff. Dont wanna spend too much more than 1K for each
This is very useful, love your videos. Thank you :)
How is this video useful?
I am camera shopping hahah
But there was no new information in this video. Ryan could just as well post a top 5 on Facebook with all the links to the old episodes.
I am not looking for new information. I am looking for professional cameras in my price range. This video showed comparisons, and talked about prices and practicality. That allows me to look up each camera. Now this video may not be useful for you, but for me, it is.
I understand that, but you could have just watched the episodes where the different camera's were covered right? I just don't like the fact that this video has nothing new to say. It's just a complication of multiple episodes.

Sony a6500 (a7s2) or Panasonic GH5 (bad ISO)?
