This has helped me a lot Jimmy! I'm primarily a keyboard player but also play guitar and like to also play some standards on guitar while I'm singing, and these voicings are the best presentation on You Tube. There's nothing like learning from the Master - Thank You!
Jimmy, you are such a great teacher ! Your colorful, often crude comments belie a genuine caring individual, with gift for simplifying complex things, and teaching other people about these things. You're the best, buddy !! You revolutionized my playing with your, then, videos. Great stuff. We all love your work.
thank you for this video, this has really helped me (not a jazz guitarist by any stretch of the imagination) be much more comfortable navigating my way through standards and other charts and really just help unlock this world of playing thats always unobtainable to me. again i cannot thank you enough
Jimmy, thank you again for a great insight into harmony. Simple and beautiful. When are you going to STOP SMOKING, ha, Jimmy! Make an effort, will you!
Great tone !!! Barry Harris talks about the importance of little chords too. Glad business is good for you. Hoping the wife and brother have nothing but good reports from the docs ! Cheers from Nashville 🎻
Always loved jazz guitar, and regret not going in that direction; got sidetracked with accordian, girls, flute, girls, marriage, work, kids, more work, trumpet, and now at 76 I'm hoping I can learn guitar for real. I own a Yamaha acoustic I picked up 55 years ago but never got anywhere except chords to sing along with beginner books; I think the physical finger callus pain put me off -- not for someone slow to commit. Always dug the fantastic percussive sound that only a guitar can do, nothing comes close for me. So, do you recommend your Essential Fingerings book for Jazz students or is there another? I'm 2nd week into guitar, memorized several beginner chords, then preferred learning fret board Major scale first and foremost, "no open strings" so I ear all the way down the board - 2 octave major scale - so far so good. I intermittently play songs by ear but tough picking out melodies no chords as a one-monther. I subscribed to your channel. Btw, heard you years ago, but now you have a favored "Jimmy Bruno Station" on my Pandora settings, which highlights great guitar artists better than my Emily Remler Station. I always liked Barney Kesslar, Joe Pass, Tal Farlow. Why am I telling you this? I don't know, it's like deja vu; you remind me of my pisano friends from Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan. Glad I discovered your music. Heard most of your Burnin' and Polarity albums -- unbelievably brilliant. I think when I was listening to Joe Pass, Barney Kesslar, Jimmy Hall, Kenney Burrell, you were doing the studio gigs and not making albums. Anyway, glad I found your music. ciao.
Fuckin' rights Jimmy there's fuck all on TV! TV died when Aunt Bee got bent over the couch by Goober!!! Speaking of which I always liked the theme song to the Andy Griffith show, good whistling and rhythm guitar!! Great lesson Jimmy thanks!!!
Hi Jimmy, I found that flat 7 note on 5 chord is 4th to the 1. No wonder combining 4 & 5 creates tension & drive. What observations do you have like this around basic 1 6 2 5 progressions? Best regards, Paul
hey jimmy. what advice would you give to a guitarist that feels more confident playing by ear than playing with the knowledge of theory behind them? i've studied theory for a number of years and know a decent amount, but i feel as if it's not on par with what i'm able to accomplish when i play by ear and just go with what sounds right to me.
Thanks Jimmy for this no-nonsense lesson on shell chords. And a very nice demonstration of turnarounds to boot. I love the fact that you just play it and show it with your hands and then move on. We have eyes and ears. We get it. Thanks for trusting us to get it. People who make guitar lesson videos where they say “Ok, first finger, third fret, fifth string. Second finger, fifth fret, fifth string...blah blah blah” are a bunch of annoying assholes and nobody can watch shit like that for more than two minutes anyway. Keep on doing what you do! Much appreciated.
This is amazing and so generous of you. Thank you so much. Your no-nonsense knowledge is priceless!
Man, there is nothing boring about this video! Excellent stuff, thank you, sir!

Good to see you sir! Really enjoy the tips and wisdom.
You’re a legend!!!
Where have you been all my life 😢 thank you. Bless you.

Jimmy you are the real deal. Thank you.
Jimmy Bruno is like NY... You can love him, you can hate him, you can love and hate him, but you can't discount him!

No nonsense guitar! Thanks Jim!
Great, fundamental lesson that you can build on. Thanks you!

Who is more grouchy Joe Pass or Jimmy Bruno? I think they are both brilliant yet irascible ! 😂❤
Great lesson Jimmy! thanks!
Keeping it simple..always the best way.
That,s what Coltrane always said

play with other musicians as much as you can. That's the only way to know for sure that your ear is correct...
Love it man
