- This month our “Tune of the month” gives a nod to the UN’s International Day of The Girl Child, which falls in October.
Please enjoy Brass for Africa’s Tayside Pearls performing “The Tayside Pearls”, an especially commissioned piece composed for them by our Composer in Residence Alan Fernie.
The Tayside Pearls is an audition band formed of girls and young women from across our programmes in Uganda and Rwanda. The band was formed, and funded, to honour the memory of a very special friend of Brass for Africa, Allison Thompson.
The band serves to not only give these girls the opportunity to reach new musical heights, but for them to act as ambassadors and role models for other girls as they strive to overcome cultural expectations and change broader community perceptions of what girls can achieve.
Here they are performing for the British High Commission to Uganda in Kampala.
I love this song so much. 😊😊😊
It looks like a cool video with happy people making music. However, if we analyze it better, we will realize that the scene is similar and very familiar to the episodes that occurred during the Jesuits' stay in the Americas.
