    Having many UK sewing friends, I sometimes adopt their terminology. I got the sewing version of maths face when telling my lovely southern friend that I was quite chuffed with my new jumper.

    Hi Gemma, love seeing Valentine lounging behind you. I've always had cats (all rescues) and the last few have all had names culled from my spice cabinet: Sage, Pepper, Ginger, Sesame and Tarragon. Sadly Pepper and Ginger passed on last year at ages 14 and 15, so now my old fellow Sage, age 17-18ish(?), keeps a weary eye out on the new additions, age 12 and 10 months. It's quite a lively household, as you'd imagine.

    Having two cats. When my boy was about 7 years old he gave the cat (Lily) a nickname. In German Frau Hochkochberg. Which absoluty makes no sense at all. In English it's Miss Highcookmountain. It always makes me laugh. 😂❤

    i have 2 cats, affectionately call them “Mr Wonk” and “Woobie Weh”. Mr Wonk because he acts very wonky. Woobie Weh because “woobie” is referring to her small and pathetic nature (“ohh poor little woobie”, think a child’s lovey toy/blanket) and “weh” is the sound she makes (not a full meow, just a honking “wehhhh wehh-ehh”)

    Valentine looks so content! She looks so much like my Domino who passed many years ago. Currently we are pet-free because we had some tough goodbyes, however I have a dear friend who is very into rescue and support her group! Tennis is not for the faint of heart. I had a lover from Ramsgate is a great one. I note you never say "town" you say "London". I was born and raised in the USA, however my dad served in Cheltham during WWII and I have often felt that I had a life where I died young in the war and was in London and Paris. So my favorite Cockney is Piglet and Haycorns... We have many, many oaks here and I suggested to some that we make haycorn flour, but no takers. There are some who feed them to pigs or raise heritage breeds in forests where they forage them.

    The old slang for the police is "the roasers" which short for Roast Beef, which is what the Peelers were known as. In my days as a tutor at college I once texted my technician to keep her informed: Being Tom and Dick, see you tomorrow. Which meant I had a sickness bug. She is originally from Kosavo so had to get someone to translate for her.

    LOVED the cockney rhyming slang and the lovely comment. Pet names for my Pekingese dog Kiwi; Kiwi the Wonder Peke; Mighty Mouse (when she's barking at a Doberman); Kiwi on the Qui Vive (when she's at the front door or window waiting for someone to come by so she can have a moment of excitement); and the entire song from the Sound of Music paraphrased, "how do you solve a problem like .... Kiwi" which I sing to her out of breath when we're playing ball and she won't give it back but runs madly away with it so I can chase her. Cheers Gemma and tx as always!❤❤

    • @sonyavincent7450

      I think that comes from theatre/stage shows in the Vaudeville tradition. Slightly off color or double entendre jokes were often veiled behind the actress said to the bishop, which was code for, you can take this as polite or as smutty as you like!

    Nicknames are really big in my family. My own name is Mistral, but I’m usually called Strally, Strals, or Stroop (short for stroopwaffle, those Dutch cookies). My mom, who I grew up called Mama, is also Mums, Mumsy, Mumzibar, Merzy (her name is Meredith), and Merzibeth…. and so on with all my siblings (of whom I have five 😅). When my brother was a baby we called him all sorts of absurd things including “peach pie lamb chop” 😂

  • @mlg7728

    In Canada we say pullover if it's a jumper without buttons or cardigan if it is a button style. Also sweater is a generic word to cover all of them. Like you mom might say, "grab a sweater". Could be either

    I suppose= your nose. Decades ago I recall an American actor,Orson Beam ( I think) did a vocal warm up that
    went," Moses supposes his toeses are roses, but Moses supposes erroneously ". I have since heard that same vocal exercise done by other actors around the same time frame. I think I heard Carol Burnett also do that rhyme.
    I don't know if the origin of that is the Cockney rhyme but that is where my mind went immediately when you read
    It.

    • @gloriastroedecke2717
      @gloriastroedecke2717 4 месяца назад +2

      I had to Google the saying. The earliest origin of the,"Moses supposes.." Is 1888. But it was used in the movie," Singing in the Rain" which starred Gene Kelly,Debbie Reynolds and Danny Kaye.

    I keep wanting to comment this Gemma, but in reply to your previous video re: lost items -- there's a Romanian superstition I absolutely swear by: if you lost an item, they say the fairies have stolen it, so it helps to place a glass upside down in order to "catch" the fairy. I swear I immediately find the lost object each time I do this!
