Helpful video, many thanks, especially the information about the optic cables, that was the bit I came here hoping to find, and you didn't dissapoint! Cheers.

I've been researching an upgrade to Apple CarPlay & backup cam on a newly acquired x5 E70. I've watched this and a number of your videos on the Avin touch screens, and find them very well done & interesting, but I haven't found anything very recent (now they have android 13 model), or any details on how the Carplay actually operates / functions after installed/set up. Do you have any more recent info? Any more details on Carplay operation? Do you have any comment / wisdom to share comparing reliability/quality between MMI / Mr12volt / Avin. Hoping for any input / additional info you might be able to share or direct me towards. Thanks

Do you really need to unmount the display? Can't you just use the green 6-pin cable between the head unit and the mmi box?

This is the best video I've seen on MMI installation; thank you!
My X1 already has the OEM backup camera... if I install the MMI Prime, do you know if the existing wiring for the camera need to be changed/moved?

You won't have to move anything as the oem camera will work the same as before. It will just add the carplay functionality

Would you recommend this over the big screen conversion you did in the X1 with built in Android auto etc?

@@FLVXVLF really depends on your needs.. the big screen is really nice, but the MMI is a clean install that doesn't change the oem look.

@@BMWDIYGuy I like the idea of the bigger screen to be honest. The stock one is comically small. I was looking at the Bimmer tech pro and I guess the only difference really is the option for HDMI in, which I'm not too bothered about. I just bought an X1 over the weekend, and coming from a car with Android auto, I need it back big time!! Lol

@@FLVXVLF I can completely understand and the giant new screen is a big selling point for sure.

@@BMWDIYGuy I ended up ordering the bigger screen after watching your video anyways, but yeah seems like no huge differences between the setups. I did opt for the 10.5" one though, so it's a happy medium from stock. Thanks for the great videos and for being so responsive here too 👌🏼
