So I'm guessing future games let you do this but by holding and pressing the a button for you to start a chain between phases with a trap card. I went back to try it out in this game cause I saw a few comments about this here and it turns it that I was spot on in the video still. I tried activating light force sword on their standby phase similar to trap dust shoot and the game just ignored by button hold and presses. I can activate when it's end phase but the game prompts that without me holding anything. the opponent however was able to activate light force sword on me in the standby phase though so this has to be a player bug? I may be missing something idk. EDIT - I FOUND THE BUTTON. ITS L!!!! you hold the L button lmao. So if your playing this game and want to use a card on their standby phase, hold down the l button. Also while your here I'm gonna be streaming the Yugioh libra mod on my twitch as per the request of someone on Patreon! www.twitch.tv/gameboyladd Been off schedule because of editing but I should be on tonight with some Pokemon Stadium 2 and the next day with capsule colosseum Rest of my links here as well! Oh shit! I was about to make some snarky remark, checked if the A button holding trick works, saw it didn't and gave up. lmao so it worked sort of as I remembered. but RIP because my DS's shoulder buttons are DEAD
@@PrimordialNightmare it's all good lol. Looking back I wouldn't be surprised if most who played this game didn't know either cause one or both shoulders breaking was pretty common
I remember dueling Kaiba for hours so that i could get him to compliment my dueling skills through the affinity system. His validation meant a lot to my middle schooler brain
This and Tag Force Special occupy a fun spot in my appreciation for Yugioh video games in that each of them is set in the middle of a really good format that makes the card pool really nice to play around with (Goat Format and Nekroz respectively). This is a better game though lol
The jump from NT's overall game design to TFS is a humungous one. But i feel like TFS would be way more enjoyable if it had an actual proper Translation than what exists right now.
This game comes so close to scratching the itch for goat but missing key cards like chaos sorc and monarchs is a downer. The game is still worth playing cause everything from the mid to late game is so fun. I wish there were more games during the mega tin format (nickname I have for 2015 format before that September ban list that made the tin damn near worthless) that's like the peak of YGO for me. Thank you so much for pulling up btw!
Phenomenal video; lots of great memories and nostalgia! No Yu-Gi-Oh! game was perfect (most of them were far from it), but as a kid, I appreciated the monsters "coming to life," as it felt like you were actually in the anime on the streets of Battle City; a huge step forward compared to GBA games.
YES! I also loved the fact that it was the first game to go over the some events in the anime in it's own way with the first part being a mix of duelist kingdom and the second part being battle city. They even fitted the noah arc into it. Some games did before but it wasn't with the TCG rules which was always a bummer. I think the games become a huge step up after this one, especially the 5d's WCS games. They start to be games that give casual players the stepping stones on proper deck building and playing the game
I always loved the 3D model sprites they used for the monsters in the DS games. It felt like the closest thing to being able to duel someone irl with hologram monsters (at least until Augmented Reality and VR stuff came along).
if they actually kept the feature, added a skip summoning animation button/toggle so you don't waste too much time on it but it's still there and with graphic fidelity nowadays it would've become pretty amazing, but konami is doing yugioh so dirty.@@gameboylad
To be fair, kaiba of all people is someone that i 100% expect to barge into my home like he owned the place if it suited his needs. (hell, he probably _does_ own that house if DSoD is anything to go by)
During the big 1-4 part you can tap the house icon to go home and save between duels. Only big 5 mokuba noah and gozaburo you have to do in a row. The night in this part is endless until this section is over.
The DS era of yugioh games is so nostalgic for me, it’s around the time I first understood how to play the card game and between watching gx and 5ds in the mornings and spending my free time grinding wc 2008,2009 and 2011. The osts are ingrained in my mind. Playing this game I understand it’s definitely a prototype for those since it so far feels kinda slow
The DS games were excellent, I just didn't like how some cards from complete sets were cut out, notably Bazoo the Soul Eater was absent in one of those games.
This is the best video about Nightmare Troubadour to ever drop on youtube. I’m so so so happy someone else talks about this game and remembers it. Thank you so much for this excellent video
YOOOO THAT 3RD STRIKE INTRO WAS GODLIKE I would consider posting that as a youtube short by itself so more people can see it, it deserves attention. SO good.
got to the point where you called Fairy Meteor Crush a trash card, and while I do agree, I also find it to be kinda trollzy. In the game if you equip an *Opponent's* monster with it, THEY take the damage you would take because FMC is your card. Kinda hilarious to stick it on their big boss and enjoy the ride. :P
for me, FMC did save me some stress early to midgame due to it's option to break through enemy defenses, espeically if I don't have Eye Shadows or Defense Stop with me, or in some cases Block Attack xD
Having binged a lot of these lately, I just want to say I absolutely love the passion you have behind videos. Your style of delivery is so comfortable and conversational, you insert references to your interests and comedic bits in a fun way that makes me interested in what you have to say and how you say it as much as the topic, and you do really solid analysis of the game as a game, its place in Yu-Gi-Oh's history, comparisons to the then-current metagame, and its context in relation to the rest of its series. These are easy "oh wow an hour just passed watching this, huh?" kinds of watches and just wanted to kinda reflect on how you're doing a great job with these! So thank you!
Thank you so much! It means a lot to me when I read comments like this cause I put a lot of time into these and sometimes doubt myself. This is the kind of validation I need to push myself forward
This was my absolute favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! game. I poured hours upon hours into this. The 3D models, the fact that you could see the card art, playable God cards... I could go on and on.
Played this game for the first time in decades when I was sick with COVID. It is very grindy but I had a real blast reliving the Yugioh of my childhood with my adult brain and helped me get through being super sick.
Crazy how foundational this game was for future ones. Clearly made on the same engine used for the other world championship games. Introduced the relationship system tag force, and even the honored tradition of tag force games forgetting to censor character's boobs.
what the hell happened to humanity in the last 20 or so years i will never understand, i grew up in a time where the first tomb raider was all the rage, i was a teen full of testosterone at the time horny all the time but for some reason, i never noticed anything hot about Lara Croft or for that matter, boobs in ygo cards, i play the game since it came out and would firs notice boobs as such in 2016 when a testing partner brought up censorship, dont get me wrong, i loved the artworks in ygo big time, the oldschool ones even more, and really paid attention to them when i was looking at new cards and artworks were super important to me for liking and playing a specific deck, if it did not have most of the cards with artworks i liked i would not play it, but for some reason, not me not the 3 dudes that started along with me to play the game not any subsequent player for 10 years never mentioned boobies in card artworks....
@@weedhigh2564 I was talking about Mai's bust not any of the cards. 4kids shrunk her and later characters' breasts in their dub because they wanted to market to a younger audience, and in this game they didnt censor it for consistency. This is also a thing in the tagforce games, namely with Aki in the 5Ds ones. Also only reason you dont remember anything like this from yugioh in the card game is probably because it was also censored up until few years ago. They only continue to censor cards that already were for consistency, like most of the Harpie Ladies are all pretty much naked but were censored to look like they have body suits. Theres also Dark Magician Girl's big boobs which are consistently deminished.
@@CatManThreeWell, that's the majority of the censors for sure, but cards DO still get "censored"- usually in such minor ways that it's shocking they did it and anyone even noticed. The Exosisters (or w/e the military girl archetype was called) has their colors changed to be less militaristic and more cartoony. Fairy Tail - Snow had her Colosseum changed to not be too similar to Disney's Snow White iirc. Cards as recent as the Tearlaments still get small outfit adjustments, lengthening skirts, shorts, adding more clothing to the stomach, etc. It's not nearly as crazy and noticeably different as in the 2000s, but it still happens, funny enough.
@@Aigis31 Damn, only case I knew out of these was Exosisters. Exosisters were recolored most likely because anything containing references to imperial japan in media gets censored for Korea, and censorship shared between Korea and the TCG. The recolors were also more or less just, brightening the already color coded outfits to look less black. Idk why theyd censor the other stuff.
I wish Konami would port old YGO games like this to the Switch or PC and price them fairly, because I'd totally pay 5-10 bucks for a lot of them. Super fun and nostalgic games!
@@Aigis31 I hgave my DS with Spirit Caller and Nightmare Troubadour stil llaying around (in fact I recently picked up the former again) and I still would play money for a port, or even better: a Remaster.
You know, Joey really would make a good player character for one of these old-school Yu-Gi-Oh! games considering he uses a lot of random stuff in both the source material and the games just like a player scratching for cards to get by.
Yup yup although you have to own the card in the game already before using the password to get a copy. it's fine though, I was still able to make harpies with the password system lol
I was soooo excited when I tried this on a later World Championship DS game, but NOPE, it asked for 1000 DP or something for the card I wanted the most. In real life you are better off buying used cards as opposed to packs, but in these games? Speedrunners buy packs.
I loved the Duel Puzzles. Made for a really nice side attraction. They put a lot of effort into them. And that puzzle with the Battleguards that's a total subversion and you're supposed to do something else entirely? Genius.
Third Strike's opening is probably my favorite for any fighting game ever, so 54:54 had me screaming, such an amazing work, man! Great video as always, I remember playing the hell out of this game when I was in highschool, but really did NOT remember it took so long for the game to take off and start for real. I guess I was having way too much fun grinding the game to buy packs and play it with my friends during break, so I really just didn't notice the story going nowhere for so long lol So many memories of playing it on my DS at home and trying to not get caught when dueling in class, this game was a blast back then, when I hadn't played too many YGO video games.
Funny story about this game: when I was about 6 or so my dad took me to this game shop to get my very first DS cartridge. I told my dad I wanted a Yu-Gi-Oh game (had literally never played yugioh in my life) and I pointed this one out for him to buy. It was at this moment that the owner decided to display astronomical levels of hating by calling my bluff. "Do you know what a duel is?" He asked me condescendingly. I did not. Long story short we left the game shop with a used Pokemon leafgreen cartridge lmao. That didn't stop me from getting into yugioh when I was older though Now I'm a grown man still playing Master Duel constantly raging against Tear-Ishizu and Spright lmao. In conclusion, fuck that one guy for robbing me the experienc of playing this game. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
That employee was lame as fuck what the hell??? It's a children's card game and it wasn't even that crazy at the time. Gatekeeping kids is so low what a dirtbag
Fam, a lot of the Yu-Gi-Oh games you review I don't even play, but the memes and references / OST you have of other games make it so enjoyable to watch.
I will admit, I was one of those that thought the Vampire could make your attack your own monsters. Also had a friend that used to say Infinite Cards lets you draw as many cards as you wanted lol
9:50…. The Cynthia jumpscare 🫠, but all in all great video. I love these more in-depth reviews of the older YGO games like this: what works, what doesn’t, mechanics etc.
I've been around for a while in this game. I played from the start up to 2018. I still play Edison and goat and keep up with modern yugioh every now and then. I'm too deep in the property lol
I dont comment much but i have to say that Yugioh/3rd Strike mashup completely took me off guard and was the best thing ive seen in a while. You should release it as a seperate short video for sure
I love the topics, I love the editing, I love the journey, I love the videos. Thanks for all your effort. This isn't even second monitor content, I'll just watch it straight. Stay excellent.
The reason the big 5 have those decks, is that technically, it is what they played in the anime, with the deck master rule. Big 1 was the nightmare penguin, Big 2 was the Ocean Warrior, Big 4 was Machine King, and Big 5 was Jinzo, with a strategy revolving around summoning the Satellite cannon. Big 3 was Judge Man, but I dont remember how his deck worked. It is interesting that they gave them decent decks, focused around their weird gimmicks. Keep up the good work.
Nightmare Troubador is probably my favorite YGO game to date. It come at you from just the right point in history to make its impression, without being too much or too little for the average player. Hilariously enough, I actually made a deck around Silent Magician Lv4 after winning it from the tournament, and apparently got to endgame with it, because I do remember seeing the forbidden card addition message. It also felt really cool to have your character feel much more involved in the world, - with people being indifferent or hostile towards you at first coming to respect your skills and appreciate you being around. Last, I do actually like how the game refuses to give you access to the staple removal cards and forces you to actually engage in the game for once. A diabolically bold move to be sure, but one that I think actually pays off in the end, as for the most part you spend a good portion of this game having to come up with an actual win condition, rather than just blasting your opponent's cards off the board long enough for them to run out of ammunition. Lastly, I do like how this game actually put SOME respect on the God cards by at least making them target-proof.
The part of being so involved in the story, but also in the world by the duel radar is what I dearly miss from more modern games! I played through Nightmare Troubadour and Spirit Caller no problems (though maybe being a schoolkid helped with the commitment) but I dropped the 2 games I got for the switch so quickly because I'm just not there.
This one was of the first DS games I ever got as a kid, next to Animal Crossing and Metroid Hunters. I didn't really play Yu-Gi-Oh physically, but this game was a lot of fun for me and I have a ton of fond memories of it. Your video on it, and your videos in general, are so satisfying. Thanks for all of your hard work.
I loved this game as a kid and still loved it on a recent replay, the affinity system is great, it makes you feel like and important part of the world. I think the cardpool is great without making anything (besides wave motion cannon) feel overpowered. The summoning animations and sprites were really cool, it felt like the show where your monsters are actually in front of you battling, something that hasnt been captured in games since. I think unlocking packs made leveling up feel exciting, wondering what cards i could unlock and upgrade my deck with next. It's cool that certain characters decks level up with you and become more difficult as you go without becoming unfair. Idk what you mean with people giving up at mokuba, i had no problem with it even at the age of 5 or so
it's more like giving up cause it takes a while for the game to get anywhere. Also had 2 people so far confirmed they stopped playing for a bit because of untimely activations of des koala lol
God, this was worth the wait. Phenomenal video of one of my favorite games. I do agree the early game is slow and difficult until you get usable cards, and it's not true goat format, but its close enough and gives you access to banned cards you could probably never get to fuck around with. No other format that I know of has the "1 forbidden card per deck" card ruling. It also has the best versions of the god cards that are about as strong as the anime versions. My advice is if you're on emulator, just go ahead and cheat to have infinite kaibapoints to buy up all the cards you need to power through the early game to the good stuff.
i wish the god cards were not so ass IRL lol. I heard cheating in the game is wonky and often messed with save files but i don't mind getting card the slow way. i thik 04 is a game worth cheating in for sure lmao
Dude. This game was the very first Yu Gi Oh card game i played that was a card battle sim. I still feel like its the best one. The affinity with the characters. The available cards. And the journey of beating the story mode is the best if you ask me. At least for these battle sim games. I played this game so much.
This is the best Yugioh game entirely because, on emulator, you can use the mouse as your stylus and so you can play the entire game with just one hand. Its a really great feature and really improves those duels against Mai, Tea, Ishizu, and especially best girl Serenity.
Just finished the video and it was an absolute blast from start to finish! Amazing work! I can't wait for you to cover the Pokemon TCG game. Not only did I have a ton of fun with it back then, but I remember the music in it being phenomenal!
I would have adored this game back in the day. I loved Worldwide Edition, and this game sounds even better. The only thing it's missing is bullying Mokuba for cards.
Excellent video as always. I agree this was the swan song of classic DM era games, and despite its hiccups it's a good game to go out on. Glad you decided to release it in one video as well, good fortune all around!
@@gameboylad How I wish I could make something like that in a day. Even making an amateur little video for the laughs can be a pain at times. RUclipsrs truly are ascended entities.
As someone whose first Yu-Gi-Oh! game was GX Spirit Caller, it's interesting hearing about this game for the first time since this is because just Spirit Caller but Duel Monsters (or vice versa). They share the same assets, graphics (for the most part), day and night cycle, sound effects, etc.
I never heard of spirit caller till about a year ago and decided to not look into the game as a surprise for myself. the more little things I hear about it the more curious I get lol
This game came to me at the right time, played it on my dsi during a long plane flight to and fro lmao. consecutive duels were so tense in this game man
Was expecting you to be rough on the game but I was pretty happy to know that you enjoyed it! There's something about this game that just screams charm and good (while also being really nostalgic to me) You got it all covered, the length, card pool, opponents, pretty much everything Worth my 2 hrs lol I really hope one day people can grab the best parts of each game and mold it all in one
I just wanted to thank you. I started replaying Capsule Monsters Colosseum with the Libra Mod because of your video and had a lot of fun. Then the nostalgia and your video led me to also start replaying Duelist of the Roses (since I enjoyed the libra mod I looked up if there was a mod for DotR and found the redux mod) , which has also been pretty fun.
Such a good game I was so amazed that they had models for every single monster card in the game Nowadays they just display the cards without any models
Let me start off by saying this video was magnificent. You gave a thorough review, while being extremely entertaining and interesting to listen to. Stellar job/editing! And now to the nostalgia: I remember loving this game to pieces. I did get it on sale for like 16€ back then, so maybe you’re right. It wasn’t selling well. But the three cards inside were pretty sweet imo. And omg I’m so so glad I’m not the only one that thought of it having “Persona-like” mechanics in regard to the daily time management! One of my friends always gave me a lot of shit for saying that. Also, those visuals. The monsters look okay, but I swear I’m in love with the pre-rendered backgrounds. More games need to bring those back nowadays… Lastly: you actually finished the whole game honest!?!? Back then I probably wasn’t as good at Yugioh to begin with, but I was never able to get through the Big 5s in a row and the secret base with Noah. And I had cheated with the action replay to get every card in the game… I was playing stall with stuff like Bowanganian, nightmare wheel and such. But still, I just couldn’t get past it. I eventually cheated to auto-win those duels and played the last part normally. But seeing you going through it, and with my current level of knowledge about Yugioh, I almost want to give it another try. No cheats. Also, spicy tech I got from Master Duel (where I play older/wacky formats with my friends): the spell card “Acid Rain” clears Jinzo and your own Cyber Stein from the field! Because I lost so many games by leaving that liability with 700ATK around for half a turn lol Always looking forward to more of your content!
I love the back ground and character portraits in the game. I didn't have space to mention how nostalgic it is to see pre rendered backgrounds again. And the character art looks straight out of the manga. If you can find a way to make the grind shorter at the start I would recommend playing it again
I'm actually a little sad I never found this in stores back when I was a kid. I definitely would've loved playing it! The grind at the start sounds rough, but honestly half the charm of playing these old Yu-Gi-Oh games to me was working your way up to a non trash deck at the start. I'd spend plenty of time just grinding out packs in Spirit Caller to see what I'd get from them. I'm also pretty glad Spirit Caller was probably my first actual Yu-Gi-Oh game I got as a kid because I would've been way more confused if I'd gotten the Wild West ass games where anything went like you mentioned earlier on. Spirit Caller was around the time I was actually learning how to play the game for real instead of just screwing around with family and friends for fun with my cards and acting like it was OG Duel Monsters so the puzzle feature they brought back from this game and the extensive tutorials absolutely helped me learn the ins and outs of Yu-Gi-Oh at the time! It actually blows my mind hearing there was just a long stretch of games without Last Will and a bunch of other classic cards I remember using back as a kid when I played. Kinda makes me realize there's probably a reason I ain't ever seen those games hanging out in any game shop in my area. I'm also excited to see the full extent of the Pokemon TCG video game as well, since I never actually owned the game myself. Most of my memories of that game are attached to an old friend I didn't keep in touch with as an adult. I remember when he'd let me play his copy after school when we were kids. So I never really got to finish it myself since he ended up having various problems later on in life and we drifted apart in high school and I think he actually moved away (this was also before I had a cell phone of my own). Still, I don't got any ill will towards the dude, we just kinda stopped being friends after a point when he changed. So a vid about that game'll probably hit me right in the nostalgia factor, considering he was my best friend for damn near 6 to 8 years and we'd shoot the shit for hours about Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh or whatever we felt like talking about. Hopefully the Pokemon TCG is as good as I remember it being from what little I got to play of the GBC game! I also gotta say if you ever get around to Spirit Caller, I'm also super excited for that vid! It shocks me how much of a blueprint this game is to that one. I won't say it's a perfect game, but it definitely improved a lot on this one from what I remember, even with what few gripes I had with it. The pacing of SC just felt like way more was going on in the first half and the grinding felt a bit less braindead, especially when they upgraded the random NPC duelists' decks. I will also say replaying it a couple years ago since I still got my copy, folding Chazz in round 2 of a tournament in like 3 or 4 turns cuz bro bricked his whole hand and I drew into every single combo in my Fairy deck was hilarious lmao. Anyway uh, I've probably rambled long enough lol. I don't comment a whole lot, but I figured if a newer channel like yours is gonna put in the effort to pump out extensive, quality content like this I might as well do my part to help with the RUclips algorithm too. I guess me having long winded ass comments could end up being a thing at this rate, haha.
I don't mind long comments. I like reading them a lot of the time and that probably came from just lurking forums and reading post often for years lol. I'm excited to cover pokemon soon and I'm also looking forward to spirit caller. I got a lot of comments saying this is very similar to that game so now I'm curious. Didn't hear of it till last year and I didn't watch gameplay yet to surprise myself
@@gameboylad Honestly same, though long comments from me probably just come from the autism if I'm being real. I'm usually pretty comment shy, but whenever I do decide to comment on stuff I usually put a lot of effort in, probably cuz I also write as a hobby for fun, haha. And yeah! Spirit Caller was a lot of fun, even when I replayed it as an adult. It was one of my favorites of the Yu-Gi-Oh games growing up. I will say, it's a little funny seeing most of the Shadow Duels in Nightmare Troubador were easier than Spirit Caller minus Yami Bakura and Noah's Big 5. Maybe it was just the types of decks I used, but I DO remember the majority of the Shadow Duels in Spirit Caller actually feeling like a genuine threat most of the time. I guess I'll end up seeing if that was just a me thing when you get to it though!
@gameboylad I would just like to correct you about chaining and when you can do it. The game (and the following games) has Chain set to Auto by default. If you want to reapond to summons with your card effects, you need to hold the A button to enable self chain On while you are holding the button. The same holds true for the DS and PSP games. EDIT: You need to hold L for this game. In other games it's A. Very strange, but it is what it is.
Yeah that's so dumb lol. I get not wanting to bother the player but it's kinda weird to take make people do that instead without a lick of a hint. Especially in a time period where cards like threatening roar and trap dust shoot were good
WAIT NVM I JUST WENT BACK AND NO LOLOLOL. so I tried activating lightforce sword on their stand by phase and the game did NOT let me. I think this is a thing for future games but this game does not let me activate light force sword between phases as I type this.
I apologize, seems like holding A will not activate self chain on, but holding L of all things will. This is the only game where I encountered this. On a side note, holding B in future games will skip over your chain prompts.
@@BoltCollector it's all good lol, I found out from testing a bit earlier and placed the edit in the pinned comment. Thank you for the correction overall!
According to a famitsu article it had sold almost 60k units in just over two weeks. According to some other wiki-like Japanese site it had sold 106k units, no source given, though. The wiki is at least from mid 2006, as it includes the info of the game being reprinted and sold at half 2940 yen compared to the original 5229 yen. Would post links, but then I will probably get filtred.
I rarely write comments but i need to props you for your videos everyone is a hit man i watch them over and over you brought me so much Entertainment and fun in the last year. I hope you can make a living or atleast Profit with your channel you deserve it.
Bro you know I been patiently waiting for you drop this HEAT This game is so criminally under rated and is the exact kindve yugioh game I come back to time and time again for how easy and fun it is to play. Gives that classic battle city Era kinda vibes
I missed out on this game until after I beat gx spirit caller and found out it existed both were really fun to play. Can't wait for your pkmn tcg video
this is MARKETING BRILLIANCE! GREAT KONAMI REPRESENTATION DUDE I FEEL U SO HARD ON HOW THEY HAVEN'T KEPT UP WITH REASONIBLE GAME SPEED OMG NOW ITS always 1tko or 50 turn loop stall for annoying the clock operators NOTHING FUN happens anymore in the game and its makin me sad =(
The good thing is that fans will aways pick up and try fixing. Play goat or edison format, since there are no new releases there can be no more breaking of the game. And contrary to what people say that it makes the game stagnant the metas aways change here and there with some experimentations.
I find it so funny how many of these cards appear in these games before the TCG due to being based on the OCG's card pool. Stuff like Temple of the Kings was banned before it was even released in the TCG so Mystical Beast of Serket was never legally playable. Crush Card Virus also not hitting until 2007 when this game released in 2004 is such a weird thing seeing as that card was STILL ridiculously broken for years in the TCG until it got banned.
insane cards for sure. There is a part of me that wishes those cards never got the errata. Seeing the current crush card and CED wounds me. It also doesn't help that it makes playing older formats a bit more annoying because most available version of these cards are the newer prints with the errata. I cringe whenever I see the new tree born frog
Actually I don't think Treeborn Frog has been errata'd, just looking at its prints and the way it's used in Edison format, you can still do the Enemy Controller combo with it if you really wanted to. I think Sinister Serpent though, that errata SUCKS.@@gameboylad
@@ChaoticMeatballTV oh no yeah In Edison you just play the old text effect. I still do it to this day lol. They gave it a hard once per turn errata in duelist saga so in modern yugioh is just complete shit lmao. Idk why they did that to a card that wasn't even being played at that point

Stairwey constantly spamming to ask you if you want to use Mystical Space Typhoon is annoying, but there must be a better solution than that.

@@gameboylad I feel like Gx duel academy gba might help fill that goat itch.

Some in the later games are cool. This game is kinda rough. However being able to see what cards like tribe infecting virus looks like is eye opening
if they actually kept the feature, added a skip summoning animation button/toggle so you don't waste too much time on it but it's still there and with graphic fidelity nowadays it would've become pretty amazing, but konami is doing yugioh so dirty.@@gameboylad

Yeah this game is the blue print for games in the future for sure
The DS games were excellent, I just didn't like how some cards from complete sets were cut out, notably Bazoo the Soul Eater was absent in one of those games.
This is the best video about Nightmare Troubadour to ever drop on youtube. I’m so so so happy someone else talks about this game and remembers it. Thank you so much for this excellent video

I would consider posting that as a youtube short by itself so more people can see it, it deserves attention. SO good.
Yeah i was gonna upload it to twitter but might as well upload it here as well as a short
got to the point where you called Fairy Meteor Crush a trash card, and while I do agree, I also find it to be kinda trollzy. In the game if you equip an *Opponent's* monster with it, THEY take the damage you would take because FMC is your card. Kinda hilarious to stick it on their big boss and enjoy the ride. :P
Wait it works that way?!?! lmaoooo
wait, whaaat?!
for me, FMC did save me some stress early to midgame due to it's option to break through enemy defenses, espeically if I don't have Eye Shadows or Defense Stop with me, or in some cases Block Attack xD
That Third Strike homage was straight fire, great video as always man.
@@gameboylad I really appreciate your videos, it’s like I get to experience these games myself.
This is hands down the best Nightmare Troubadour video. The editing is brilliant. The animation at 55mins is absolutely insane.
I'm happy to do the game some justice!
For someone who always keeps their record in these games a 100% win rate, needing a forced draw to progress was a nightmare to me.
There is a glitch that counts joey's losing to bakura for you so a lot of the time most people couldn't even be 100% 💀

This was my absolute favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! game. I poured hours upon hours into this. The 3D models, the fact that you could see the card art, playable God cards... I could go on and on.
As a kid I put a lot of hours trying to make everyone on the social list a friend. Those were the days
Played this game for the first time in decades when I was sick with COVID. It is very grindy but I had a real blast reliving the Yugioh of my childhood with my adult brain and helped me get through being super sick.
The decks you can make are very funny too, I made the gane lasts longer by running stall decks 😂
Crazy how foundational this game was for future ones. Clearly made on the same engine used for the other world championship games. Introduced the relationship system tag force, and even the honored tradition of tag force games forgetting to censor character's boobs.
Yeah I hear this game is somewhat like spirit caller? I never played spirit caller but i can't wait to get to it and compare the 2 one day
what the hell happened to humanity in the last 20 or so years i will never understand, i grew up in a time where the first tomb raider was all the rage, i was a teen full of testosterone at the time horny all the time but for some reason, i never noticed anything hot about Lara Croft or for that matter, boobs in ygo cards, i play the game since it came out and would firs notice boobs as such in 2016 when a testing partner brought up censorship, dont get me wrong, i loved the artworks in ygo big time, the oldschool ones even more, and really paid attention to them when i was looking at new cards and artworks were super important to me for liking and playing a specific deck, if it did not have most of the cards with artworks i liked i would not play it, but for some reason, not me not the 3 dudes that started along with me to play the game not any subsequent player for 10 years never mentioned boobies in card artworks....

@@vanesslifeygo I feel that lmao. even with this game it was easier to get most of the cards in my end game deck from packs over the password system

I guess I was having way too much fun grinding the game to buy packs and play it with my friends during break, so I really just didn't notice the story going nowhere for so long lol
So many memories of playing it on my DS at home and trying to not get caught when dueling in class, this game was a blast back then, when I hadn't played too many YGO video games.
The days of working with what you got lol. Yeah as a kid I didn't notice how much time I put into it so I ain't mind the slow start.
That didn't stop me from getting into yugioh when I was older though

Yeah this game does a good job trying to think up creative decks for the characters. A far cry from wcs 2004
Wow Metroid hunter and animal crossing takes me back omg 😭 thank you so much for watching
Keep on spitting out content. Its all fantastic and i love hearing your insights!
Thank you! Will do!

Thank you so much for enjoying the video. it means a lot to see this in the comments!

This is the best Yugioh game entirely because, on emulator, you can use the mouse as your stylus and so you can play the entire game with just one hand. Its a really great feature and really improves those duels against Mai, Tea, Ishizu, and especially best girl Serenity.

It really gets the old nostalgia feeling going for me
2:05 truuuuu I just stumbled on the yugioh games back in high school. I never ran into a single ad for a yugioh game growing up.
So weird konami only put ads of the game in shounen jump and not much else
More games need to bring those back nowadays…
Lastly: you actually finished the whole game honest!?!?
Because I lost so many games by leaving that liability with 700ATK around for half a turn lol
Always looking forward to more of your content!
A unintentional bday gift. Love your detailed work m'guy
Happy birthday! Enjoy the rest of the day for me!
Let's go we're getting into the era kid me started to understand Yu-Gi-Oh somewhat with rules and thru the games that mimicked formats that existed
Yeah I appreciate that the game gave the opponents decks that can give you ideas on how to use the card if you had it
@gameboylad I would just like to correct you about chaining and when you can do it.
Nightmare Troubadour was the peak. I played that game so much back then.
same here. I was trying to get the friend status with the characters lol
THANK YOU! It's wild that my comment section is more informative than simple Google searches
Damn that SF3 3rd strike reference brings me back in all the best ways.
I'm so happy people love it!
Yeah that 3rd strike edit was next level 🔥 43:36 AND UNIEL CHARACTER SELECT! This is godlike 2 hours is too short
Glad you enjoyed! Means a lot to me to hear people liking the 3rd strike edit
That Yu-Gi-Oh x SF3 intro was just *chefs kiss* a work of art 🤌
Nightmare Troubador was MY favorite yugioh game!
It's still something I hold up high thankfully
Great video Ladd, the story really seemed to go in depth for this game.
Always wondered where World Championship 2008 DM characters' portrait came from
Yeah I saw they reused some of these in future games lol
I rarely write comments but i need to props you for your videos everyone is a hit man i watch them over and over you brought me so much Entertainment and fun in the last year. I hope you can make a living or atleast Profit with your channel you deserve it.
Thank you for pulling up. I'm happy I even got this far for now lol. It's crazy how fast things grew in the last 3 months
Your entire yugioh video series is basically "who the hell thought this was a good idea, a tale of Konami decisions".
It is konami after all. The last 10 years for konami is entirely a tale of dumb konami decisions 💀
Bro you know I been patiently waiting for you drop this HEAT
This game is so criminally under rated and is the exact kindve yugioh game I come back to time and time again for how easy and fun it is to play.
Gives that classic battle city Era kinda vibes
probably one of the better dm era games for sure if you can get through the rough start
@@gameboyladyeah man the second part of this game is incredible. It takes a while, but its enjoyable for the right people lol
I missed out on this game until after I beat gx spirit caller and found out it existed both were really fun to play.
Can't wait for your pkmn tcg video
I didn't know spirit caller exist till last year so now I wonder how similar these 2 games are
The opening theme song for Spirit Caller is probably my favourite Yu-Gi-Oh opening theme. Really good game. @@gameboylad
Let's go! Always nice to see a notification that you've uploaded a new video!
Hope you enjoy!
this is MARKETING BRILLIANCE! GREAT KONAMI REPRESENTATION DUDE I FEEL U SO HARD ON HOW THEY HAVEN'T KEPT UP WITH REASONIBLE GAME SPEED OMG
NOW ITS always 1tko or 50 turn loop stall for annoying the clock operators
NOTHING FUN happens anymore in the game and its makin me sad =(
The good thing is that fans will aways pick up and try fixing.
I have been waiting for this day! Truly a masterpiece of a game!
That “Third Strike” intro was cool.
Konami's so allergic to reprinting powerful cards in the current meta, they didn't even add them to the video game. lol
LMAO. Chaos sorcerer? no freebies
@@gameboylad "Best I can do is Witch Doctor of Chaos"_Konami
These videos bring me back to my childhood! They’re so good! Keep up the good work homie can’t wait for the next one
Thanks! Will do! Can't wait to talk about the Pokemon TCG especially since it's on the switch now
cheered at 1:25:44 like my team won
great video as usual
The decks in these games were allot more fun from past games. I took the decks and had them battle in a a.i. duel. Watching most fights were great
I think the thunder dragon return deck is my favorite in terms of creativity
@@gameboylad agreed I was suprised when he did that
That Meruem edit was insane, it feels exactly like that when a NPC outplays you😂
those moments are painful lul
I hope you do more of these, editing and memes and commentary are on point man. I rewatch these.
I am, just taking a lot of time upgrading my style on top of the holidays. Next vid should come out hopefully this month so be on the look out :)
