    I'm a motorcycle enthusiast and a Harley man at heart...... But I would love to have this bike in my collection someday. The 1980 Honda CBX 1000 is such a beautiful machine!

    OMG !!! Now Im wanting a CBX
    I remember 1st time I saw one of these at a bike show back in the late seventies.
    Was so out of this world compared to everything else around back then, was simply stunning to look at, such a wide looking engine and 6 pots !!! was staggering to imagine it all. You can only imagine how many people drooled all over it, wanting it on there wish list, me included. I never did have one. :-))

    @dprider02 I'd love to see this bike again in HD on a lovely sunny day.
    You mention the 400/4 another classic bike. At the time I never fancied one of those, but today, now Im older and wiser, I'd jump at the chance to have one.
    Wish I could see this chaps collection... ha ha. Nice to know there are people out there preserving this great machines for future eyes. :-)

    Very impressive bike. I was a Kawasaki person in those days, a KZ1000. I only raced 3 of them on the street and they smoked me on takeoff every time. Once at the beginning of the Pasadena Freeway, I stayed on it and so did he. I eventually caught him at about 125, but with the 40mph curves ahead we both backed off at that point. I wish now I would have bought one of them instead of the Kawasaki. What an impressive looking engine.

    I would agree with you there. My first street bike was a 1971 CB350. I bought it brand new for $825, and rode the hell out of that thing for a few years. Wish I still had it!

    I had a 78-79 CBX. We bought it with a vetter faring and put it back to stock. My friend and I spent 2 hours setting the valves all 24 of them. We went from Cozad, Ne. to North Platte, Ne. It would do 55 in first, 90 in second, 103 in 3rd and yep all of the speedo 155 in 4th. It started to lift and shake at 65 but smoothed out so I went for it. It ran 11.03 in a quarter if you could keep from lighting the tires. Awesome bike.

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  15 лет назад

    The way I understand it, the CBX came about through Honda wanting to showcase their engineering might and industry leading technology. What ever the reasons, they sure came up with an awesome machine! I'm very glad to have gotten the opportunity to ride one.

  • @Sebastian_Dinwiddie
    @Sebastian_Dinwiddie 15 лет назад

    Just beautiful! That is the one bike that I want. I've got a ZX11 but so want a CBX to keep it company.

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  14 лет назад

    @Bevoin1970 A very cool machine indeed. I'm lucky to have gotten the opportunity to take a spin on such a pristine example. I made this video about 2 years ago, by the way, and I'm pretty sure that the bike hasn't been out of the shed again since! This summer I'm gonna try and get out for a short ride on this guy's Honda 400/4 Supersport. Another awesome, lightly used classic in his collection.

    One of the most beautiful motorycycles in the world, if not the most beautiful one! 6 cylinders, 24 valves, fantastic engineering. It went out of favor, because of the CB1100F, which was probably more efficient, narrower, and all. But nothing touches the beauty of the CBX. I consider the 80's a pinnacle of styling. Together with Ferrari Testarossa, the CBX is one of my favorite vehicles. Kawasaki GPZ900 was nice too, though. Top Gun anyone?

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  13 лет назад

    I only rode this one for about 5 minutes, and maybe got up to 80 mph or so. Still had fun though, and I doubt the bike has been ridden since!
    Setting those valves must have been fun!

  • @ramiroestrugo
    @ramiroestrugo 15 лет назад

    Thanks for your kind comments, All the bikes run perfectly and I do ride them occasionally , riding the 1926 Harley in todays traffic is a real challenge. I will take your advice and will publish in the future some clips on every bike in the collection
    The death road in Yungas Bolivia is still there although no longer in use for regular traffic, now is only for mountain bikers , and they love it.
    Saludos

    I don't know if you've heard of it, but there is an interesting American motorcycle gearing up for production down in Alabama called Motus. The prototypes have been shaken down pretty thoroughly, and it's supposed to hit some dealers within the year. It's got a US made V-4, with design cues from a Chevy V-8. It's gonna be a pretty expensive machine at $30,000 plus, but looks very cool, and I hope they find a market. Unlikely I'll be buying one though. :)

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  11 лет назад

    Yeah, 1000 cc's doesn't mean much these days, but that was a pretty extreme production motor for its time. The sound it makes is timeless!

    I just watched the video tour of your motorcycle collection. VERY impressive! Are they all runners? Do you ride them occasionally? You could make some interesting riding videos on those bikes, and I hope you do.
    I also have to ask ... have you ever driven on the Yungas Road ( "road of death") down there in Bolivia? I have taken some bus rides through the mountains in Colombia ... it was pretty scary, but nothing to compare with that road!

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  11 лет назад

    This bike has been out of production for around 30 years, and I would say that something in the 250 to 500 cc range would be a better choice as a starter bike anyway.

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  15 лет назад

      Do you realise what year these were made ???

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  12 лет назад

    I didn't have much seat time on the CBX, and wasn't really trying to do any comparisons. That said, the two bikes have similar HP at around 100, but the 919 is way lighter ... over 100 lbs., and it feels quicker. Probably is.

  • @dprider02
    @dprider02  14 лет назад

    @idrivebmw335 Kind words. Thanks. I'm of the opinion that a motorcycle riding video with commentary (good or bad) is always more entertaining than one with only a music background.
    The CBX is an awesome machine for sure, but back in the day, you were probably better off with the KZ1000 as your daily rider.

    A nice 1980 bike, is this a Japanese one or a Marysville bike? (should say on the headstock) Best pipes for one of these is the stainless steel Pipemasters system. Is the owner an ICOA member? (international CBX Owners Association)

    @trojwl Hard to believe that I didn't notice the 85 mph speedo. What a laugh! My old (1986) Honda 700 had the speedo numbers in bold on the 5's, instead of on the 0's. 55 mph was like double bold!

    Evan is wrong. They were made from 1979 to 1982. I have a pristine '82 with K cams, Mac headers and K & N filters. Fast, yes but the "cool factor" of the 6 pipes sticking out the front makes the bike.

    My jaw dropped when I saw one first time in the '80s. The way it leans into a turn, it's so composed with its big "breasts", sort of like a beautiful sexy woman. Then there is the sound and the power. Very smooth machine. Still my favorite motorcycle ever.
