Do not ever get a roommate. You're better by yourself even if you have a girlfriend do not live with your girlfriend until you married. That's why I do it. It sucks but you get stronger when you stand firm with fam. I just evicted my older brother out of my condo bcuz he thought he could get away with not paying. When i put the eviction notice on the door he started talking all that brother shit. It needed to be done plus it also let all my other 6 siblings and everybody else in my fam know not to try that we family shit with me on God!
Two things, I remember one time as an adolescent being very upset with my mom, and my dad pulled me aside and told me something I shan't forget, he said, "your mother may not always be right, but she will ALWAYS be your mother." The second thing is mothers KNOW their children, probably better than the child knows himself. They know exactly what they can and can't get away with! My mom did NOT treat my sister and myself the same as adults!
Its amazing how similar our life experiences have been (in certain ways). I can say that in my own growth I have discovered that until you set hard boundaries and say "no" to things regarding self-centered manipulators, nothing will change. And you might think that its an insurmountable obstacle and that she wont ever change, but my own interactions with other people have changed through persistence over years and years of time. Trust in God more than you trust in yourself and he will guide you.

It may be because you were living on the street, and have that familiarity with her, in her mind, which she may be using against you. I have a very close relative, very similar to how you described your mom. They're extremely difficult to deal with, and are shamelessly needy. Very narcissistic, and a burden to the family, more so emotionally than anything. What I've learned to do over the years, is quite frankly become like you. I've grown weary of tolerating bullshit, and am more willing to be blunt with this person, and call them out, this way they can't emotionally drain you, which they will, so as long as you allow. As long as you allow it, they will be around.
