    Fun fact is that Kipchoge would still beat most normal people in a 100m sprint just running his marathon pace :-)

      Yes, for most healthy fit young adult, it is even hard to run his pace (~20 km/hr) for more than 2 minutes which he does for more than 2 hours..

    Sprinters only focus on speed obviously and put more work in the gym and work on those fast twitch fibers i their legs. Whereas distance runners focus more on building endurance and function and more mental discipline.
    - Sprinters = Weight training
    - Distance Runners = Long runs

    Very interesting! I'm a former collegiate sprinter and now do triathlons. It was a big transition for me to try to move over to endurance sports. As a sprinter I often heard that training slow twitch muscles would be detrimental to sprinting which uses fast twitch. I've found for me that's not true though. I can still sprint quite fast even though I've been training for long distance races. And think it's a great idea for sprinters to do long distance running in the off season.

    • @gm2407
      @gm2407 Год назад

      How much has it taken off your sprint time? I presume that if you didn't train for sprinting you would lose the speed as the body does not require the adaptations, but to actively train for endurance must take it further away.

    My Garmin coach (workout plan via Garmin Connect) has been telling me to do 4k/m intervals of just 30 seconds...and I was pleased to actually hit that pace in my last workout after topping out at 4:15 or so the previous couple tries. I had been wondering if I simply couldn't do it except in a 100m dash. It turns out I was just running 125 meters in each of those 30-second intervals, which means maybe I can do 100m in less than 25 seconds? And then I tried to wrap my head around elite marathoners holding sub-3 minutes for 42 kilometers. So good to know it's mostly down to genetics ;-p

    #GTNCoachesCorner Hi to all, and thanks for more enlightening content! I've got a question about running, and specifically, how to prepare for the heat. My last race was Age Group Nationals in Milwaukee last month, and I blew up because I wasn't nearly heat-acclimated enough. Now I'm preparing for Age-Group Worlds in Abu Dhabi, and I already know it's going to be way hotter. I think I've got a grip on the basics of heat training--I've been doing my easier Z2 training in hotter conditions--but I've gotten conflicting information about hydration. I've been told that adequate hydration is especially important on longer Z2 workouts (including for safety and health reasons), but I've ALSO heard some coaches say that you should limit hydration during these workouts and then re-hydrate in the hours afterward to promote increased blood volume. So which is it? Should I focus on hydrating more or less when I'm heat training?

      I think the female marathon time is slower but they have more opportunity to get faster than mens times do. Chrissy Wellington has run a women’s olympic B qualifying time (2:45) in an iron distance race, you’ll never see a man run a 2:19 b standard in an Ironman that’s for sure.

    Does one type of runner have a longer career? Does one type of runner have more potential for injury if all warm-up/proper nutrition etc. is being followed? My assumption is longer distance athletes but that is based on the, likely false, assumption that they are not taxing their bodies in the same way because they are not sprinting. But repetitive activities can also cause injury, so…?

    • @Flowmada
      @Flowmada Год назад +2

      Muscular contraction has a stronger connection to neuromuscular activation in sprinting. You are doing things a lot faster and putting more immediate force on your body. You will not be doing 100m sprints without significant chance of injury in your 70s. You can run long distance and build up your skeletal system to endure marathons your entire lifetime with slow twitch muscle fibers

  • @savagepro9060

    Uh, long distance runners TRAIN in powerful short sprint intervals, indulging 100M sprints. They do. And most marathoners come up from short distance running. Kipchoge, Bekele, Gebrselassie etc, came up slowly and long through the short distance ranks [albeit not 100M dash]. That's why MOST marathoners mature in performance in their mid 30s. Yes, younger runners have started entering marathons at an earlier age. However, short distance runners don't usually do marathons. I am guessing . . . too boring perhaps😉!

  • @jonathanzappala
    @jonathanzappala Год назад

    I bet Kipchoge could run a sub 11.0 100m. Bolt running a sub 3? That would be a lot harder for him I’m sure.

    • @gm2407
      @gm2407 Год назад +1

      Bolt doesn't even like running 400m, no way he would want to run a marathon even if thought he could achieve that pace. I also think Kipchoge wouldn't want his body adapting towards sprinting as it would take a while to push back to where he currently is.
