Let me tell you little brother you are a bad ass pipeline welder that is doing some awesome welding in between to make ends meet, it will come around again I have faith, God bless you.
Hacks leave slag on their welds. If you're not cleaning your welds, that means you're not inspecting them or putting 100% into your trade. Fence is looking great!
Absolutely love the fence design! The main structure is metal so it will always be straight and strong. The wood slats look good and can be easily replaced. Great job!
Hello, and good day to you sir. I’ve been watching your videos often for the past few years. all your videos are great. I’m a retired fence, contractor and built just under 900 miles of fence in my career. And within those 900 miles I’ve built almost every fence known to man. i’ve traveled the United States servicing six different states. I have worked in and out of the oil field welding myself, and I would like to share with you all of my tips and tricks in fencing, and maybe it can help you. make more money and your viewers Excited to have more of your amazing content
That’s quite honestly the best fence I’ve seen in a really long time dude. The fact that you can change out pickets so easy is the best part. Good call on that reinforcement tubing too
Great job and good looking fence. I dont trust a string line. Use a laser level or transit is the best thing but the can be pricey. Before i could afford a tool like that i would use a water level. Clear tubing with died water and a valve on the ends. Works great and easy to use plus you can make it 20ft long or longer. Look it up it might come in handy for you. Take care and keep up the good work.
Glad to see the centre rails. That is a slick looking job. Very much a welders fence and with great attention to detail. You learn on each job. Always strive for perfection and improvement. Nice to see a tradie taking pride in their work.
This, I built a conventional privacy fence with them, they warp all over the damn place, but the way he did it is far better than the conventional way.
Sweet looking fence! You always do awesome work. Over here Jacksonville, Fl in the high rent district they use vinyl fence constant pressure washing. Nice video.
Austin I really learn a lot from your videos. I watched one where you were setting 5 foot tall fence posts on around a 200 foot line. I will be setting a 110 line of metal posts soon. My question is this: what kind of string line do you use for those distances that won't sag or break over that distance? Thanks.
No advice for the week or did I miss it, what Rods do you like using on fencing like this, I do a lot of fencing kinda like that and personal love burning 5p (6010) rods, just figured I’d ask and would potentially try a new set of rods maybe, thanks in advance
Good work.. nice fence... I have a question what rod did you used?? And if you can advice me on what rods to used outside and when is windy??? Also what kind of stick rods to used when there’s paint or rust?? Or always have to clean the metal before... I don’t have experience welding outside and using stick welding but want to learn.. your advice or someone else help would make a change in my life.. thank you and keep uploading videos, nice work..
Hi Austin I'm a thirteen year old welder have been welding in Zimbabwe for three years now and I have been wondering is their more money to be made with a rig or in the shop?
How do you get consistent distances between the posts? Do you have to cut all the top and bottom rails to fit without having to pull the posts out of plumb?
I think there is a high chance of warping if you dont add the middle support. Unless the pickets are the higher quality thicker pickets. I'd say home depot pressure treated will in fact warp. Cedar will likely hold up better, since there will be less moisture leaving the wood.
Hey there Austin! Love your vids. I'm currently in welding school right now in Nebraska! Your videos have made me really want to try and get into pipeline. At the end of this year, my instructor will certify us in what we want to go into. If I could get certified in 6g pipe or just pipe in general, would that get a decent head start into pipeline?
Absolutely! 6G can land you in just about any job and is most of the time required. I'm sure you're out of welding school by now but I'll leave this here for anyone else.
Hey Austin I’m in welding school. I’ve watched for a few weeks and was wondering. Have you used a proline lens? I got a gold shade 9 for my fibre metal sugar scoop
I have a small welder for jobs like this, but 1 day a friend commented on it and said :what the hell do u have that for, having so many other much higher quality machines and I replied: cuz they're way too heavy to lug around for quick jobs that don't require big machines, but mine is old, it's a Lincoln 3200HD but it works great.
You need to make the gaps in between your posts uniform ,make up your top and bottom rails to the size of the pickets , build the fence with posts and base rails in one go ,the Base rails set the post distances correct . Then piece up to the corners.
🤷♂️ I couldn’t tell you. I don’t worry too much about what other people are charging. I do so much custom work that I just have to bid according to what I need to make for my personal business situation. Everyone’s business model is different. And I just do what works for mine.
2 big reasons are the health risks of breathing the fumes and 2nd is the zinc coating on galvanized steels can compromise the weld making it weaker and also can make it look sloppy if not done correctly.
"Flood" makes several shades of stain for cedar fence. I use 'Cedar Tone" . Two coats will last 20 years. Unless their sprinkler system constantly washes the fence. The stained fence will be much more desirable than the natural aging.
@@arosswelding I am not able to find those in either of my box stores. Only thing I find is Slipfence rails, but those are crazy expensive. can you tell me the proper name to to online shop the ones you are using? thx U

I used to be a boilermaker 25 plus years ago, became an accountant. You sir just got me buying a stick welder again.
You changed it up . You just rig welding . I hope you go back to pipe line work . Your videos have been so helpful. Keep up the good work man !
I agree Austin, I think it looks stupid when there are a bunch bb's by your weld if they are painted.
That’s quite honestly the best fence I’ve seen in a really long time dude. The fact that you can change out pickets so easy is the best part. Good call on that reinforcement tubing too
That looks great....I’m glad you put support in the middle, without it the pickets would sag and warp, maybe even enough to fall out.
Good looking fence man that’s a sharp look for sure

Man those 5/8" pickets warp and twist like the devil, I hope this works out for ya'll.

I think slag is a good place for corrosion! I am a hobby weler though I've seen some good welders in my 60 yrs of oil field work!
That is a good looking design...
How often do you have to replace warped boards because of no center support?
That new fence looks really sharp.
Laser level solves the sagging string problem.
Looks good!!! Easy to repair if needed but going to be very strong.
I like how you do your job looks nice and clean 👌 👍
I love it! Seriously that’s awesome Ross! That looks like a American welder built it! 😃👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice work mixing the metal with the wood fence Austin , I like it !

Really like your idea on the fence. Wasn't sure at first, but after seeing the planks in it looks great.

Pretty cool fence
Where did you get the top rail and bottom rail? And what are the correct names of them? There Awesome
It all looks real good i use the same steel fence combo
Except I use 1 1/2 angel for center rail this rail allows for self tapping screws to be used
Great built and great looking fence must have been pretty expensive !

Thanks

Thanks. You’re awesome as well!

How did it hold up 3 years later?
As a carpenter, I would be concerned with the pickets warping and bowing. As a welder... NICE JOB MAN!

Hey ive been watching your videos for a long time now and when you work on structures and fences do you need to get a city permit
No permit needed if replacing an existing fence(usually)
That's looking bad ass brother
Thanks
That looks awesome I been waiting for an update. How much more do you think a fence like that is compared to all wood? Double, triple the price?

Yes, we are in central Oklahoma. Far as I know, it was fine.
Hi Austin, I notice you always use “black steel” that begins to rust as soon as it gets damp, why not use galvanised steel and avert the problem?
2 big reasons are the health risks of breathing the fumes and 2nd is the zinc coating on galvanized steels can compromise the weld making it weaker and also can make it look sloppy if not done correctly.
I would love to know if the owners got it painted. I think that to properly prep and paint , you would have to take it apart again.
