There's going to be a sequel of ICBM out eventually, the developer of the game and the only real active modder of the game are collaborating to add in a lot more conventional warfare assets and make the game a lot more RTS like.
I would like that. The best games are when there's a natural escalation, probing each others' air defences and naval forces until someone reaches a breaking point. I also would like a different scoring method, score being based on surviving military assets and population instead of kills, that way you're incentivized to gain dominance through softer means but if you''re losing you have ample reason to go nuclearl to level the playing field.
I'm still so hyped that you guys finally played this! In the future, I highly recommend playing with the "DEFCON sounds/music" mod... Really sets the atmosphere well.
@@thecommunistdoggo1008 Defcon has a very 1980s Cold War computer graphic aesthetic, really feels like you’re sitting in a SAC bunker ordering the end of humanity, it’s just a lot more grim and dark, but also is a lot less gamey then ICBM, so its not as good for a group of 8 friends.

Nothing like the Hoi bois playing a T O P I C A L game where they blow each other up. Cuz what is a friend if you cannot obliterate them with nukes, huh?
I will give some advice as someone who has played perhaps a bit too much ICBM: Ships aren't worthwhile without investing into their upgrades, while planes are one of the strongest units when upgraded, especially if you have non-nuclear stealth bombers set up to constantly harass and destroy SAM and RADAR sites. Portable nuclear launchers are good if you move them around after firing them, so they can't be easily countered, but if you don't plan on moving them, just build a silo, as it's tankier and can launch larger warheads. Speaking of warheads, the larger ones are always better, and you want to nuke cities with a high point count with the largest bomb you have. Personally, I enjoy making Moscow a glowing green crater, and my personal achievement was dropping 400 megatons on that city alone to finally reduce it to 0. Don't be like me, though, keep targetting high point cities, and you'll harm the production and research of the other nation. Satellites are also good. If no one counters them, 3-4 satellites can give you virtually total vision of the map. If you do get countered, it's usually best to try to not do that again, especially if 2-3 are shot down, as that is no longer economically viable. The good thing is that they're relatively cheap, and you can start out with them researched, although you'll struggle to get much else. The production slider is also good to know about. I personally spend the first hour of the game at 65% research, as it gives a bit of an edge while still ensuring enough production to at least have a bit of defense, but a friend of mine likes to do the inverse, having a lower research base, but having much more invested into defense to try and keep me from doing cheeky shit.
