Hi everyone! It's funny to see a Erika Typewriter here. Here in germany you can still buy Erikas very cheap. I think i have 5 of these. 😄

Even though these guys are shrouded in plastic, they are fine maschines!
Even by 1974, my Model M-41 wide carriage model is a dream to type on!

Great video! I recently acquired my grandparents 1929 Underwood Portable 4 Bank. It's in pretty good shape but I would like it to be in a restored state. Do you accept restoration jobs? If so, I would love to have the quality of work you perform done to mine. If not, could you recommend someone or somewhere? I live in Pensacola, FL. Thanks for your time.

Hey Charlie, i have a 1980 Erika with a broken platen knob. i was wondering if you knew how to source any hard to find parts for an Erika? i cant find much online :/ any help you can offer would be super appreciated!

alas, my only advice is to search for a parts donor machine online, or to reach out to some of the collector groups on FB. There were several different names that Erika designs were sold under, and a nice recap of their history can be found at xoverit.blogspot.com/2014/04/post-war-erikas-part-2-1965-1991_11.html?m=1

    HELLO
    I HAVE A QUESTION
HOW CAN I SEPARATE A PRINTER ERIKA 30/40 FROM THE STAND

    • @TypewriterJustice

carefully, and with patient observation of the mechanisms involved :) i am unfamiliar with the exact model you mentioned, but i am nonetheless certain it has a simple(even if discreet) method for removal from the baseplate…you just have to experiment, observe, and have faith in yourself to find it! cheers!

I love this typewriter, I have a problem, when I pull on the bar it won't index. I see the mechanism working but the rubber cilinder won't spin at times... we love it. Is it a easy fix?

My Aztec 14 is just like that one. I have thoroughly cleaned and carefully lubed the machine with a scant amount of Singer Sewing machine oil.
This is my first typewriter, so I really have no experience typing manually.
The keys seem to have to travel a long way down to type, and I can only manage 2 finger typing as it takes a lot of force to “strike” the keys.
Is it just my lack of practice and experience with this machine?
Should I re clean the machine?
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks

One thing to keep in mind is that 99% of the time, these machines will need cleaning rather than oiling; as the saying goes, “the best lubricant is regular use.”. If you have put oil on the typebar segment(the big slotted chunk of metal where the typebars pivot) then you should flush it with either mineral spirits or lacquer thinner to remove the oil, as it will slow down the motion & eventually attract enough dust to cause it to seize. while the Erika/Aztec models do indeed have a fairly deep keystroke(as do many typewriters of that era) they should be fairly easy to strike. Less is more! Oil is not your typewriters friend! A great place to start learning some of the basics is on Richard Polt’s excellent website, The Classic Typewriter Page, in the restoration section at site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-restoration.html Hope this helps!

      Thank you so much!
I have Rich Polt’s excellent book on typewriters. A great and well purused text it is!
I only oiled the typebar joints, never the typebar segment.
I’m selling it now, tho’ I may work on it just a bit more before putting it up for sale on EBay.
It really is as good as I can make it.
I want to thank you for all you do for the typosphere.
May the sound of your typing never cease.
