Today we’re going to talk about magnesium stearate, which is a common ingredient in many supplements.
Magnesium stearate is a common flow agent. A flow agent allows powder to flow through manufacturing machines as they make certain supplements. A flow agent also allows pills to move through the GI system a little bit better and increases the absorption of the ingredients in the body a little bit better.
Magnesium stearate is classified as GRAS (generally recognized as safe). In a report from the National Center for Biotechnology, they stated that taking up to 2,500mg of magnesium stearate per kg of body weight was considered safe. This means that a person who weighs about 150 pounds could consume 170,000mg of magnesium stearate a day and still be within the safe zone.
But, on average, the amount of magnesium stearate that would be in one capsule is only 4-8mg. When you take magnesium stearate, it breaks up into magnesium and stearic acid.
Benefits of magnesium:
• It supports the heart
• It supports the muscles
• It helps you feel calmer (it’s good for anxiety)
• It supports sleep
• It helps build ATP (which gives you more energy)
Stearic acid is common in a person’s diet. It’s a regular fatty acid that can be metabolized for energy or turned into cellular membranes. The average female consumes about 5700mg of stearic acid every day, while the average male consumes about 8200mg of stearic acid a day. The magnesium stearate you get from supplements is 800x less than what you’re already getting from your diet.
Stearic acid is found in:
• Animal fats
• Butter
• Lard
• Vegetable oils
• Cocoa butter

Finally, I can take my supplements without fear. Thank you so much for making this video, Dr. Berg.

Just watch out for the titanium dioxide....
Stearate are safe? Years taking supplements told me the ones with stearates are worse for my joints. And it's labelled "magnesium" to mislead. It's not nutrient magnesium. it's Chalk!
And this is just one of the many reasons we thank God for Dr. Berg and love him so much...
I'd just like to extend my gratitude to you, sir. You're saving lives!
Thanks Dr, for all the good information you give us.👍

Magnesium stearate are works by attracting water. Once in the intestines, it can attract enough water to the intestines to stimulate the defecation process. The extra water stimulates a bowel movement. This means that it can also be used to treat rectal and colon problems.
Hii
That’s great information

Wow, I just listened to an “expert” ranting about mag stearate and it got me worried and ready to begin research before I purchase my next round of supplements.
This info is extremely helpful and puts me at ease! Thanks!
Correct in fact all type of magnesium are great
please listen..mag stearate is a cheap filler or binder and harmful to liver...notice to top end supplements will specify zero fillers or no binders.. the liver has over 500 functions and detoxing is its main thing...so yea just do yourself a favor and stay away

his cat is a psychic
Dr Berg is wrong on stearate. It's unhealthy to consume. Might be influenced by his supplement sales. Good timing after Mercola deleted his article shaming magnesium stearate.
RUclips can read your mind. Lol all social media. Be careful
IT IS NOT SAFE! Dr's can be wrong & often are. Do your own research - ALWAYS
Thank you Dr berg for your valuable video and add free content.

Thank you for the video Dr. Berg. Is the microcrystalline cellulose filler in supplements safe or can it cause inflammation for people with sibo?
Great video Dr. Berg! Could we have an additional video on the subject of supplement fillers and discuss silicon dioxide? Possibly rice bran/powder/ protein and or hulls? Will any of these break a fast or dig into your daily Carbohydrate allowance?
I agree.
Agree
This Channel is confidence inspiring - I saw a video and She did vinegar and MG stearate test and freaked me out . but now i am not worried to continue taking my MG . Thank you Doc
Thank you Dr Berg
Hi Dr. Berg. Just wondering if there was any difference/significance between synthetic and natural stearic acid?
Dr. Group says it's not safe; Dr. Berg says it is safe. I trust both but they can't both be right.
Stearate are safe? Years taking supplements told me the ones with stearates are worse for my joints. And it's labelled "magnesium" to mislead. It's not nutrient magnesium. it's Chalk!
there is a difference between Mg-stearate and stearic acid Mg-stearate is hard to detox from the liver see dr.group but stearic acid is good for the body. so, the question we should be asking is what is the health effect of magnesium stearate on the body not stearic acid?
Exactly!
Thank you for these ❤
You're most welcome!
I'm so happy your around. Dr. Janine said it's bad for your gut. I have magnesium with that in it. Now I know it's ok!!!
Thank you for this info! There is another channel which warns consistent about stearate in supplements. Now I feel better because of your research. ❤️
Glad you like the information here. Thanks for watching the video.
@@Drberg there's so many giving out conflicting advice so that I'm very leery about who to believe. Eric Berg seems to be the only one we can trust. Ty❤️
Literally any time i take a supplement with it in i feel ill and i have consistsnt diarreah, heart palpitations the list goes on. @Drberg
Thank you for shedding more light about the study of the mice that were use. It puts the information in a different light.
You're most welcome.
It's all over the Internet that it's unsafe! But then again it looks like it's only unsafe if you take large amounts but that's still concerning to me?? Why so people claim it to be unsafe??
Thank you! Good stuff

great vid doc thx!!!!

My eyes . burned for 2 years and 3 eye doctor's had no idea why. Then I googled mag stearate and found out #1 side effect is burning eyes. Then I changed all my supplements to soft gels and it took a year for my eyes to feel normal. I hate mag stearate and avoid at all costs!!d
Big time!!!!
I was told by my sister who is a licensed nutritionist to stay away from any supplements that contain magnesium stearate, I did my own research (which is my usual habit) and found exactly the same information that this kind doctor shared. However, it is so good to get confirmation!
congratulations

Hii
ameen
Thank you Dr. Berg! I’m happy to continue using my magnesium supplements that I’m comfortable taking without worrying now 👍🏼
I almost died from taking vitamins. My thyroid went hyper and I was going into cardiac arrest when it was caught. It took me 4 years to figure out it was the magnesium stearate used in making supplements. Since then I have avoided magnesium stearate at all costs, but it is used so frequently and hidden in many things - undisclosed - that I have had reoccurences but was able to catch them earlier now that I know the symptoms. I even managed to make it by taking a magnesium supplement and putting coconut oil (stearic acid) on my skin daily. I may be very sensitive to it, but it is a toxin.
God bless this doctor 🙏.. his the truth
Thank you !
Very glad to be of help.
I have heard tons of others saying it is not healthy. Makes me a little cautious knowing he uses it in his supplements.
Aside the factors addressed within this video, it's ok to supplement, but remember all the other ingredients that also come with supplements also have to be absorbed and processed within, in summary where physically possible always seek 'natural food based' sources.
Hii
thank you again.
Most welcome
Thank you so much for explaining these things to non medical people. You're doing good work.
Hii
It took me years to figure it out, that I get gut inflammation flareups and brainfog that take days to calm down, from Magnesium Stearate. And also from soy lecithin, which is also an emulsifier like mag.stearate. it is in so many Products. I avoid it now like hell.
I'm right there with you. Took an elimination diet to realize. Soy lecithin and magnesium stearate no thanks.
Thank you so much
You are so welcome!
@nirvana rupawan.. can you kindly share details of MSM supplements that you use and for how long?
thanks alot
Thank you for this...I had no idea I consumed that much steric acid
Why is it then that for ten years I have not been able to tolerate any medicin or supplement. Only recently I concluded that the common factor in all my perscriptions was magnesiumstearate. Since then I have only accepted pills and capsules without magnesiumstearate and I am OK now.
I just spoke with one of Dr. Berg’s advisors and found out that the magnesium stearate use many of his supplements is sourced from palm oil!!? I am shocked because for years I’ve been watching Dr. Berg’s videos and he’s always been against Palm oil. So then why use it in his supplements when magnesium stearate can be sourced from other healthier oils than palm oil?? Dr. Berg tell me this is not true!
Magnesium Stearate is mentioned with regard to being acquired through animal processing, cows etc. The concern is that somewhere in the world, some sources of magnesium stearate can pass along mad cow disease, apparently (BSE).
Tbf i was thinking this in all these supplements theres always magnesium stearate and i was wondering myself if ime ingesting too much...?
