Welding custom body panels. Birth of the Renobug Part 10

- Опубликовано: 21 авг 2024
- It's Wifey Wednesday! Time to do some work on the Renault/VW Beetle project. In this round, I first remove the body again to do some outstanding welding on the floorpan. Then, with the Renault body on stands, I could finish the new firewall and build custom bodywork panels to allow clearance for the VW Beetle front suspension. I also make a start on welding up the newly fabricated body mounting brackets.

Hey Diff. Good video. You not only entertain me with your videos, I actually learn stuff. And that is hard for me at 75 years of age. Ha-Ha. Thanks for sharing.
We are never too old to learn! Thanks man.
The relocating music cracked me up 😂😂 little by little
😁👍
Looking good my friend. Cant wait to see the Hudson reappear! ❤
Moving ahead full speed. Loving the progress.
I was hoping the hudson would be the star, lol jk !. The reno bug is getting better every show . Keep up the great work!
Good job!! Happy wife happy life!!! I stick to it and things aren’t too bad. She’s going to love it. Have a lekka one my brother.
That's some really nice fabrication Div, love watching the progress. Take care.
Thanks 👍
There’s nothing like a woman scorned even if it evolves a car good luck dude
I'm retired now, and I want to plan a trip to South Africa and come for a visit, you are an incredibly skilled craftsman and I am in awe of your attention to detail and creativity, Bravo mate!
Yeah, come visit! It will be the trip of a lifetime! 🙂
Was thinking yesterday about the Hudson. I owned more muscle cars and trucks than VW's 56 Gia 59 & 66 bug I enjoyed the simplicity and durability of the VW's. Renobug is a very cool project!!
I'm starting to enjoy this little project a lot myself!
I've never seen a Volkswagen like that very cool 😎
Maybe used a mesh or something to keep out the critters from getting in the
" FRUNK " 😂
Have a lakka one my brother ! 💪🏼
nice progress, looking forward to more Renobug.
I was a fan of the Hudson build, but now I want to see the Renobug completed! It’s your baby you rock it, I’ll watch it 😂⚡️
I'm actually enjoying this little car a lot!😄
That’s some fine work you’re doing on the 4CV, hope you bounce back and forth on it as you do other projects. Also doing a great job putting out these videos
I enjoy watching the renobug build, its unusual. US car shows always have a Mustang in them, which i find boring😂😂, better with Hudsons and Renault's
My sentiments exactly. So enjoyable to watch Div build, it doesn’t matter what he’s building! 😊👍👍
@@ratrodsafrica
👍👌👏 I'm happy to read that you enjoy it too. The car has a nice fresh colour 💛 and seems much easier to handle than all your bigger builds. Especially the ramp truck. 😁 ;-) And who would not love to build something nice for his wife!?
Have a good time, Sir.
Another day of great progress and a nice bit of fabrication, every piece is one step closer and more reason for the wife to feed you once more,, lol
😁👍
Dziękuję Bardzo 🖐️
th steady progress very impressive, gut wirken!
neat workmanship it is all the small jobs that takes the time but it pays off in the long run and it is for the good wifey so it. must look right
Once again…..
Nice to get my fix.
Thanks
Looking good Div, it's the little details like closing in different areas that makes a big difference to the finished product. The more of those tedious bits you do makes it look more like it's supposed to be that way. By the time you're done it will look so factory, people will say they didn't know Reno used VW running gear, or they didn't know VW used Reno bodies.
😁👍
It's a boot and a bonnet here in UK too, love the little renobug .
New meaning to manual steering! Lol the car is looking good my friend!
Another great episode Diff...
More work on the 74 super beetle.. one pan in and welded,, other side needs fitting.. about got it now..
👍😎💯
I'm really enjoying this build. Doing a "proper job" as we used to say in England. Its going to be a solid little car and with even a stock VW engine it should have plenty of go!
It sure is coming together nicely Div 👍
The Reno bug is coming along great my friend, keep us posted.
Good work on the Renobug. I think your wife will be happier with a closed up "froot". She can put her gloves, jacket in there and they won't get dirty/wet.
You are probably right! I'm trying to get away with being lazy...😅
Thanks Div!
Always amazing my South African friend. Hope to be as good as you someday.
You can do it brother!🙂
As always, enjoy your videos.
Nice work , you could make the space below the spare tire a compartment for small tools or emergency situations just a thought ... Build On Bro
You are a very talented fabricator.shes looking great
Thank you so much
Renobug is coming right along, looking good. If your Bride gives you flack about taking the car apart just tell it was to make sure everything is done right and safely.
😁👍
As long as wifey is happy with the progress then it's a good day .. yup the front panels look more like tin foil than sheet steel but a man of your calibre won't be daunted by that . Sweet video cheers
Thanks brother
Awesome progress brother from another country another awesome adventure as always brother have a lekka one brother say hi to everyone for me okie dokie
I featured your sticker in one of my recent videos.. love it! thanks for all the effort you put into making these videos.. "I" know how much work it is.
I didn't see that one! Thanks! Please let me know which video? Yes, you will know what it takes to make videos...😅
@@ratrodsafrica you are now mounted on my lift amongst other youtube royalty haha ruclips.net/video/4lUW64HURiY/видео.html
Dear Dif
👍👌👏 "Weld" done again, Sir. A lot of fabrication has already gone and still has to go into the Renaultbug. I'm especially curious about what kind of steering wheel you will put in. I was very impressed how the fabrication of the wooden steering wheel rim turned out. But of course now it has to be something yellow. At least I hope so. 😁 ;-)
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved people.
Very very nice work Diff.
Your the man, brother man. Have a Lekka one.
Thanks 👍
Them Brits taught you guys wrong with that boot and bonnet stuff. It was named "trunk" because originally it was a steamer trunk strapped on the back of a model T. A "boot" will not hold very much unless it's chest waders.
Thank you for the video
Your wife should love her car it is cool
A boot is what barefoot mechanic has on his feet today. Smart man wearing boots on his motorcycle. Sometimes I see people wearing sandles on a motorcycle around here.
Dudes wearing sandals on bikes have not fallen enough yet...😅
There is only two kinds of bikers my buddy used to say. The ones that fell down and the ones that are going to fall down
I genuinely enjoy your company and thank you for sharing
Looks good man. Have a leakage one South African friend.
Rat Rods for Africa, Halfass Kustoms and Fitzee are the best on the internet! Always looking forward to their off the wall builds.
Dont forget Make It Kustom Japhands Carl is amongst the best...check him out if you haven't as yet
Thank you for the compliment! 😊
Coming along nicely Div.
Waiting for the engine to g in the chassis.(floor Pan Skeleton)
great work Div, SWMBO be pleased , you get a few more meals...hahahaha
😁👍
Great stuff Diff
Yup great going bro
another great video man . matt ireland thanks.
Thanks Div!🍺
Good job
Realmente todo lo que haces es muy bueno. Un saludo mi amigo. Gracias.
Hey Div, talk about thin metal, that little Renobug body could have been made from French beer cans. My Sheet metal forming skills tech college teacher, a long time ago, astounded the class with his "party trick", oxy butt welding aluminium Coke can pieces together. Nice work, I'm impressed, keep working on those "attaboys", cheers mate.
Don't think I could do that!
Its gonna be a cool car,
Great Diff .....have a lekka one brother
Looks good 👍
All that work you did around the shock towers looks pro man that's gonna be a super cool little car when your done with it
Great work brother ✌
Thanks ✌️
The welds are proof of years of experience welding no spoog en plak work
😁👍
The days before air bags spare wheel in front
It's really coming together well, bit of work, but nothing good comes easy, 😂 can't wait, should be a great show peice, here in Australia no modified wheels are allowed on the road, has to be bought and certified 😂 ,thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones, have a Lekka one
So glad I live in a place that's not over regulated (yet...?)
Looks good
Lekka Boet Lekka. You should make you a car mover.. Really called a caravan mover..it hooks to the caravan hitch. You can make one from a starter motor..and a battery. Need a solid wheels maybe a jacking mechanism. It can pull or push your cars around one man style. Its a bit of fun for a Afro Engineer. ,😂😂. Good job Diff. Be good to see the Hudson back. Now you can mix it up. Lekka Boet Lekka. 👍👍💪💪
So much to do, so little time.😅
Love it ,❤
She's gonna start coming down and monitoring you on Wednesdays now for sure! LOL
Yeah, I fear that...😅
Nice work Diff, respect to your imagination and skill.
Thanks!
If you need more room in your shed, just take the Reno into the house and work on it. :D Cheers from the shed
😂👍
Do you know why Americans call ithe rear compartment of an automobile a trunk? When the country used stage coaches to get around the driver would have the passengers put their valuables in the steamer truck mounted on the rear of the coach. the rest of their baggage was placed on the top. Once automobiles came along, putting things in the compartment at the rear was common and and through tradition it was called the trunk.
In addition, the early cars had racks on the rear to strap a trunk to.
Interesting! Makes sense
It's so ubiquitous that it's weird to see someone who didn't know.
@@philmickey7247 basically
OEM fitted air bag spare wheel of the day
Don't worry Diff. As long as you are still working on it you will still get fed. Great work as always, thanks for sharing. Cheers
Diff, I think you should lengthen the two front doors and make it a 2 door. I know that would be tons more work, but I think it'd be worth it!
Wife wants those 2 back doors so she can get to the groceries... Who am I to argue...😅
SWMBO! Haha
Hallo Div en mense,
Nog 'n groot stap vorentoe vir hierdie klein Frans-Duitse huwelik. Gaan so voort vir ons grootste plesier!Dankie.
You’ll need space for a Jack. I would use that depressed area for those tools.
Maybe the Froot could be used for spares along with the Jack & wheel bece that could fall out the opening. It might pay to put a bit of mesh in place of panels if you don't want to seal it up 🤔. Keep up the good work, cheers from Australia. 😃👍
Just lazy mate... The "client"(my wife) has already given instructions that I close it up😅
Amazing fruit boot😄😄😄
Love your sign that said Fuck politics let’s build rat rods. Everyone would be happy.
Yeah man!😁
Great progress Diff. I really envy your skill. Renobug looking mellow yellow. 👍👍
Thanks 👍
I think you should cover up the area below the spare wheel.. removable sections? Or cover up from below.. just thinking of all the places the mud grime and dust could come from.. Lekke, looking good!
Ja, ja. Sounding like my wife now... Guess I have to get my lazy ass in gear😅
Looking great. Going to a very cool little ride. I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to leave that open area in the front trunk. Would have bugged me it would let so much road debris and dust in and just not look finished.
Not gonna get my lazy ass out of this one, think the wife's gonna say the same😅
Fill the whole in the bonnet so it can be used for storage. She doesn’t need to carry a spare. If she gets a flat, she will call you to fix it anyway.
Oh, she can change a tyre good! And where we live a spare tyre is important 🙂
That little renobug is coming along ! Great video, I know about “getting too old for this shit “ lol man you do get quite the workout moving vehicles around in the shop but keep up the great work Div
Back in the days I carried that thing under one arm😅
Me too brother 🏋🏻♀️ Lol
If it should bother me, hmmm bet swmbo might have different ideas. Great video Boet, Renobug is looking tidy. Have a lekka one Div
Heehee, I think you are right😅
Yo Boet when you said you are going to put smaller wheels on the wife's car. Dam they are small hey😅 lekka just to watch you doing your car thing. Take care
Good progress on the Reno-bug Div. Must keep the Mrs happy. Wish you and yours the very best. Have a Lekka one Boet. 👍
This is a great build mate ! If your ever in California there's a bed for you and your wife mate
Its a long way from here, but thanks brother!
@ratrodsafrica I send the jet lol
@@PeterHatch-mx7zc 😁
If you are going to retro fit a body to a different chassis, this is the way to do it, excellent work Dif!
Thanks! 👍
Pretty nice all of the metal work you have done This is going to be a cool little car.each week it gets closer to the final finish thanks for the video Div glad to see the barefoot mechanic in the shop giving you a hand Take care guys.
Boy, I hear you about getting too old 😂
Padlangs sien ek jy's n TROJAN ,,Fan" ! Ek's baie bly dat die Hudson weer verskyn. Lang laas was daar werk met hom plaas gevind. Altyd baie intersante tyd met jou.
Dankie! Ja, tyd dat iets weer aan die Hudson gedoen word
Great stuff Diif. You attention to detail is Number 1.
Top demais ótimo trabalho parabéns 🎉🎉
Thank you!
Up front the dust. And mud water are invading that space for tire
I think my wife gonna say the same. Not gonna get my lazy ass out of this one😅
That will
be a fun car to drive.
Shaping up nicely Div
Lengthen the front Doors to make a two door car and a small roof chop only say two inch ? great Work so far
At this point in life, form follows function.😀 Chopping this tiny car will make it super uncomfortable
JUST KIDDIN
HAHA, Happy Wife , Happy Life XXXXXX Reality... Crazy Wife, Crazy Life
True!😅
Hey Div,
You got a lot done on the Renobug and it looks great.
But the Hudson was suppose to take the place of honor.
Oh well, maybe next video.
Until then, Take Care.
Lota slow welding but it's coming along.
Yoooo!!! Div!! Hows it? Great video and progress!! I understand when you said there was tons of tidying up and welding sections thats not glorious to watch..I feel the same way about the Z lol. You are cranking out the progress thats for sure.. Almost at 30k subs!!! Congrats Div!! Keep crushing it!!!
Oh, you know ALL about making and welding in those "non glorious" pieces, boet!😅
@@ratrodsafrica lol right... One tiny bite at a time 😃 🐭 and 🐘
Watching you buk en bekruip that welding brought back memories.
