That looked crazy. We are thinking of doing the same drive. Can you tell me what month it was? Was it the dry season?
Definitely rent a car that has higher than average clearance and preferably 4 wheel drive - it's a rough drive. We were there in December. So, technically dry season, but it did rain quite a bit while we were there.
