Just saved me some money as well. I ended up just fixing a bit of foil on the tip of the battery before inserting and it worked like a charm. thank you for this!

I put mine on the + side, it worked! It must be that the little itty bitty + tab over time must get bent or something, because I cleaned it and got all the crud out, even got the spring working again, but nothing worked but the aluminum foil on the bottom + side - did worked !

You saved my 10 year old trackpad :) Thank you so much! My tip is that putting the foil on '-' under the cab, not on the '+' deep inside.

I used foil from a candy kiss, I just folded it whole, not ripping it to bits. It worked perfectly! Thank you so much for posting this!!!

Awesome to hear that it worked for you....for few people that it didn't work, you just gotta try it until the foil sits just right on the contact point to make this method work. Thank you for the feedback ~

My trackpad is working again ! In my case dropping foil at the bottom didn't work, but with some foil just under the battery screw cap cover it went on after 3 years! Don't make contact with the sides. Thanks for foil idea!

It took me a little while before it worked. You have to find the right depth of the foil, not to thick, not to thin. And it must not touch any metal outside the contact point of the battery. I placed the tiny foil on the top (at the battery compartment cover,) as it gave me more control.
