I first watched this video two months ago, and several times since then. Every single time I see it I am completely blown away. This is exactly how I want my karate to look.

Outstanding Tonfa Kata! Solid stance, incredible kime and control of the Tonfa - a pleasure to watch such quality kobudo over and over.... Thank you very much for posting Jesse Sensei!

That was Terrific. I'm pretty sure that introduced to this Okinawan kata some years ago at a Seminar but didn't get enough time to get it. This is a wonderful opportunity to study it and hopefully take it on board. Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

I love how tight he was. All moves very close to the body. I was more elongated and flowing. Great video.

I know this is like a month late but i'm currently learning Matayoshi Kobudo, there's also Okinawan and Ryukyu kobudo according to wikipedia, but my knowledge only extends as far as Matayoshi style at a pretty basic level. I don't know if it's very well known elsewhere and i'm by no means a martial arts master but i'm beginning tonfa training at 4th kyu, which seems to be the standard for most dojos. You should definitely see if there are any instructors in your area!

I have noticed that I veiwing hamahiga nó tonfa that there are quite a few subtle differences. This is common between associations and nothing new. Is there a 'gold standard' or original version we should see jesse?? I tried to teach myself this off your kata on your tonfa video , so would appreciate a nod it the right direction. Thanks

This is all the more impressive if you actually know how difficult it is to spin a tonfa that smoothly...

tonfas are the most practical martial arts weapon i can think of, even more than the sword imho

+mike while you make a good point, can be attested to by the use of the PR-24, i believe the jo has a more practical foundation, as it can be applied to a pool cue, broom handle, umbrella, etc.

...? I'm not sure if you're annoyed that I gave you a painful image or that you think I'm being sarcastic. Because I think it'd be insanely painful.
