What a tragedy, honestly. A huge piece of smash as a whole has been taken away. The end of a legacy. Thank you BTS for all the amazing tournaments and moments we experienced because of your guys’ hard work.
This is so sad :( SWT and Summit have been my favorite events to watch since they first showed up. Hoping we're able to find a way to salvage the situation, and soon!
I know its tempting to blame Dr Alan for BTS situation too, but it looks like when BTS lost contract to Dota Pro Circuit it basically sealed the deal. As both DOTA and Melee fan RIP to the best, most authentic organization out there, BTS will be missed.
This is so unbelievably sad. Summit was consistently a top 3 event of the year, every year, and they established themselves as such a huge part of the Smash scene over the years. They were one of the few esports companies that felt genuine and passionate and not all corporate sigh
Here’s a thought: Since the EVO 2013 reversal incident was the biggest Smash-related pr nightmare for Nintendo due to its ties to charity, how about we make every Smash tournament from now on a charity event? If daddy Nintendo wants a pr nightmare, then we can very well give em one.
I could see them gearing a potential future LSI more towards summit-style content, but I can't see it becoming a consistent replacement with how much money his last few tournaments lost. It would be cool, though, if they were able to harness some of the existing infrastructure, like a crowdfunded store for merch/side events/vote-ins to offset costs/increase the prize pot
@@Kyro4Productions i think ludwig lost a lot of money because he didn’t plan on making it. he has a ton of connections and i thijk he could make something consistent if he put in the effort. not to the same caliber and budget of lsi but something like scuffed world tour which was all things considered a pretty good event, things like scuffed would be a pretty solid consistent thing
I think it is in part because there aren't massive sets of "ownership" of players. If you had super rich people with big giant teams that they were controlling like football, e-sports would stand a chance. It is really kind of a stacked deck because society wants people that are more easily controlled, I think.
@@americantimemachine7128 Hey your comment sounds interesting but I don't really understand it. Got any example of 'more control' making spectators happier in melee or other things?
@@EtropolisGhost Oh, I don't mean things are good for the spectator. I mean that more formalized sports have been a way to extract crazy amounts of money from the consumer; i.e. if you own a sports team, you can own the stadium and charge people absurd prices to get into the stadium and there are many subsets of monopolies have so much money entrenched in other things that e-sports have kind of cut out that middleman. The media conglomerates and sport-owner oligarchy would have a justifiable reason to want to shove e-sports out of public view because not as many people get paid out of their enjoyment.
@@americantimemachine7128 So a smaller scene will struggle to make money / survive, and a bigger scene would be more successful at the cost of less freedom and other problems caused by greed. And the very rich aren't interested in e-sports because it's hard to control / super profit from (it's not used to being standardized or mainstream). I think I getcha.
Plup saying EVO was kinda trash makes me curious if fgc events and smash events are actually different in general. I’ve only ever been to one major like a decade ago and some midnight game release tournaments. Kind of want an irl tournament tier list. Imagine like Pokémon tcg being SSS+
@gryphongamer1 I never really got the impression people played purely for placement. Of course incentive to get better is important, but I’ve been playing for 10 years in and out of tournament, and I don’t really have any plans to quit. I’m still gonna go to my locals, and as long as locals exist, people will try to make bigger events. So I don’t really see it being realistic that big organizations stop melee from continuing, because it never needed them to begin with (even though I’m obviously very sad over the news)
@gryph0n1 the melee community is driven by the passion for the game. If anything is on the brink of losing player-base it’s most likely Ultimate. There isn’t as much passion for the game in the Ultimate community. Melee may take a hit but will live on as it always has in rough times.
I think it's gonna be something like the SF2 or SF Third Strike community. It'll exist but it won't really be viable or relevant as a competitive scene anymore, sadly
By working with Nintendo like panda wanted because that means sponsors are actually interested in sponsoring. That plus esports being a dying business just means death to "grass-roots" tournaments

Oh no now we won't be able to see more steve vs steve finals😥😭
lmao they did more than smush ya toddler
@@Colebankzz i know mate. But it was really a big part of our scene even so
Summit was litterally my fav tournament to spectate, literally watched all tbe events every time, cant believe it's over.
I prayge for melee :")

What this have to do with bts no money
Plup: says something tragic/depressing/existential… *giggles*
Looks like Ludwing Invitationals will be the new Summit
I hope Lud and Aiden put on a replacement for Summit, feel like they could pull it off

It's too big of a cost to be every year, tho

plups so quick wit it
Summit has always been one of my favorite tournaments to watch. So many hype moments
Fuck man, 14 summits and over 7 years of peak content that got better every year, this sucks. I wish the best for BTS staff at this time.
The best is yet to come don't look down

As someone who watches both, yes. Smash is run very different and is more a pain in the ass for TO's.
bruv did mulay just die for the 38th time bruv?
bring ridley to summit plup
rip hon
I'd bet that a Plup run tournament with a 100 dollar prize pool would have more entrants than Coinbox
rip summit :(
this is a huge blow
I mean people aren’t gonna quit playing, as long as there’s a playerbase that’s all you need

Nice Fire Emblem Awakening music
Step in, brother.
Anyone know the ambient track playing in the beginning of the video?
Id - Beginnings (Fire Emblem Awakening)
@@Kelkador thanks much!
I can't believe that the hands of smash are in Hgod's possession.
pain
Sad to hear that BTS died. Aside from that, playing Perfect Dark’s Chicago Stealth theme fits perfectly well on this video.
rip summit shenanigans
BTS can happily live with the fact that they put on Summit 11, the greatest event ever
the era of free money is dead, ludwig predicted this.
That was emotional
Especially coming from plub
I dont know whats the difference between the events other than the names. I dont really mind them dissapearong. As ñong as there are still toyrneys.
That's the fun part. There are no more tourneys :)
For sns or riptide ya gotta stay an extra day for the park fo real
Back to the grassroots grind
deadcells is goated
well shit
How could this have been avoided?

So shit what happened to such a big part of comp smash
wtf man where am I going to get my fill of smash players playing mafia now? :(
Ask mango and the other top streamers to save it!
a plup video is how i find out BTS is dead... frick u plub
Hbox the goat now that mango retired
Damn wtf :(
Please start a rival tournament to Hbox's and try to grow it off your name alone
Seems like online tournaments are the only way forward. Need to adapt to the times I guess. Still less fun than playing on original hardware imo.
Does this mean genesis is gonna go back to vgbc
not clickbait :(
This is terrible! What?!
😢

Why did people ever think Smash would be financially stable for an infinite amount of time?
Big brain over here knows that things are temporary. Mr. Rational
People never thought smash would be financially stable for basically any amount of time, especially melee, but it would’ve been nice.
first?
never been this early and it's sad af :(
Screw those loser sponsors let's get some donos going to fund it. We can only hope
