Seldom hear an uptempo solo (in the double time section) that moves one to tears at the beauty of it. Guido Basso should be honored worldwide for his uncountable magnificent performances. Thank you for yet another.
Arguably one of the best big bands ever. I had their DIRECT CUT album in 1978 and the interpretation of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess was outstanding.....it covered a whole side of one LP
Canadian musicians- as a US citizen and jazz fan, thank you all from the bottom of my heart and ears. Though my favorite is now gone (Maynard), as is OP, there are still some wonderful players bringing smiles and tapping feet to the world.
Guido Basso!!! Just heard him play live last night at the Sudbury Jazz Festival!!! Fell in love with his playing over 30 years ago watching "Night Moves", "Night Walk", and "Night Ride" on Global TV. He turns 78 years old on the 27th of this month (Sept)! He is even better now!!!
This lifts my spirits and breaks my heart at the same time. There is no one who can arrange like McConnell. Simply beautiful. The Touch of Your Lips is another of his that astounds me.
Arguably the greatest ever Flugal horn player and definitely the greatest Big Band of all time - and I've heard them all !!. Oh! how I miss Rob and his fabulous arrangements - how on earth those musicians managed to read them is beyond me. At least Rob left a musical legacy never to be bettered in Jazz.
Over thirty years, there have been so many of their works that are favourites of mine, but this one remains very special because I fell in love with Canada around the time I first heard it.
Superb arrangement ( as always from Rob ) with superb state of the art flugel from Guido - the seemless transition to a great samba groove with this band always made me want to stand up and cheer !
Beautiful. RIP Guido.
Best Fluegelhorn solo I have ever heard. Guido is one of the most underrated trumpet soloists.
Incredible. Guido at his best . OMG what a sound . love it.
They are the best. As an ex pro horn player I can't help but end up listening to Boss Brass on a regular basis...
RIP Guido Basso; this is my favorite recording of him
Mine as well.

Rob and the Boss Brass have been icons going way back. This is a beautiful example of the great Guido Basso and Rob's wonderful writing.
Tour de force by the great fluegelhorn master. Irreplaceable!

I agree
Thad Jones-Mel Lewis, Count Basie, Duke Ellington were the elite of the elite.
More great Guido with Boss Brass. I love the way Guido plays!!
C'est magnifique.
Capo Guido Basso !!!!! re capo !!!!!! Maestro !!!!!! Muy bueno el arreglo !!!! Genial !!!! Felicitaciones Rob !!!!

Superb chill out performance! I didn't know any of those guys, they're wonderful and in my favorites!
R.I.P. Guido Basso
Great arrangement with guido on top
no finer fluegelhorn player than Guido Basso!!!
He’s great for sure. But don’t neglect the inimitable Clark Terry!!

I always remember hearing this song live on public radio when I was a kid. I recorded it on cassette and played the hell out of it. Great arrangement.
Guido at his best. First heard him late 50s in Montreal, when I was a teen trumpet player Wannabe
Beautifully played
An amazing arrangement!
Guido!!!
This was the album people were waiting for. Up until then BB albums had numerous cover tunes. My copy wore out quickly.
You must watch to really understand the beauty of the tune.
¡La mejor banda del mundo!
Terry Clarke actually drops his stick at 3:55 but recovers miraculously!
Porra! E esses 3 que não gostaram? O que que a gente podia fazer com eles?
Double-times twice!

Very nice, but how did they manage to get the spelling of title so wrong ! ( Portrait Of Jennie )
