I skimmed through Xcrossbeat so a lot of the plot points flew over my head, but honestly this kinda makes me like D4DJ more. I do think it’s important to say I got into D4DJ in the past few months and haven’t read through the entire story, but I think games should be allowed to be silly with their plot. Like don’t get me wrong, I like ProSekai and their well written story, but D4DJ’s shenanigans are so random I love it.

This appeared in my feed, and lasy time I thought about D4DJ was All Mix. How did they decide to go THIS route is beyond me, but hey, the sky's the limit now, it sounds hilariously fun. Not enough for me to touch the game, mind you (I suck at rhythm games), but still.
To my knowledge, no idol franchise has taken a spin at a "save the world" story before. Although I had a really good time with it, there were some things I took issue with, besides the drastic tonal shift. I think the adult units had no place in the story and it would have been fine if we just had the Yoba units and UniChØrd as the major players. Also, since you brought up Yu-Gi-Oh, I'd also like to mention that Lumina integrating her prototype into her systems reminded me of Jaden merging with Yubel.
Pretty unique, but since it's so out of nowhere, yes it's quite jarring. I agree that CoA was a bit unnecessary, but i guess they were only there for like 2 scenes anyway
There are so many idol franchises nowdays that surely there must be one or two, altho I can't really recall any in particular either The Duel Monsters (for one arc) and VRAINS yugioh animes also had a virtual world gimmick too and the later even had a idol character but sadly she doesn't actually sing in the series. Fun fact: almost all female leads in yugioh animes have a ace monster or a entire deck themed around music in some way

Call it my bias for sci fi stories cause it is but I actually like the direction the xross beat stories went. Were they weird? Yes but so am I. Besides project sekai also has some supernatural/tech elements to it so I don’t see why other games like D4DJ shouldn’t be allowed to do so as well. That being said I do feel like the newer stories have suffered in terms of characterization mainly the old groups, abyssmare and Unichord have been good. I think that due to less screen time the writers have opted to flanderize them

@@saltysalt844 Most of the anime characters sort of just come together to sing at the end. It's mainly focused on the new characters A lot of characters from this arc, Aria, Neo's dad, Sho, etc have no models, so a lot of the footage from the game would have been just text boxes.
First Mix is a good story about an up and coming new DJ group. All mix is good and fun, but its storytelling drops off in favor of pandering to the app users. Xross Beat lost me so hard. I got bored and stopped reading. I hated Lumina before she was...this.
Honestly I don't know how to feel about Xross beat. One hand it fits with the vibe on what D4DJ is all about and it doesn't seem to be out of place. On the other hand, the AI take over the world thing feels far off from the grounded story that Side Nova established. I still don't like Xross beat went off the rails, but weirdly enough I somewhat enjoyed it.

I loved First Mix and even the all the Groovy Mix story before side Nova, but it kinda just felt like the series lost its roots after that. Im glad I clicked on this since I now know that dipping from D4 was maybe for the best. (RUclips must have gone deep in my history to recommend this since its been ages since I watched anything D4 related)
I appreciate their attempt but thus feels terribly implemented, even in series with estabished fantastical elements you can't just throw random bullshit at the wall with no regard to coesiveness and in-universe rules, the SotsuGou sequel of the Hugurashi series is a prime example of that (its supposed to be a supernatural horror story but it ends with a fighting scene straight up from something like Dragonball Z, ignoring all the other glaring issues) So so introducing all these crazy fantastical elements in a series that previous was pretty 100% realistic (quirky anime personalities aside) feels just wrong

Like Photon was robbed year 2, they had the best songs that year and should have won, especially after imo Peaky fell off.
