thank so much for posting this! i finally worked up the courage to doing this myself and it worked so well :) I bought my macbook pro a2159 used from a friend, and the keycaps were reallyyy worn. I ordered just the key caps from aliexpress and ended up breaking one of the little white nobs on the butterfly hinge but i ordered more and followed this, and everything is working good now. :)
very helpful - I had the problem that a button didn't always respond when I pressed a button (only when pressed very hard) - I was able to use the video to remove the button and press the pressure point (the small "tongue" in the middle of the pressure point) again while holding it down bend very slightly forward and the button worked again (without pressing hard)
What do you recommend putting to hold the clear piece in place? Like what type of glue or adhesive? I dont want to use gorilla glue or anything that would make it hard to fix in the future.
The owner of the laptop in the video wins the "dirty keyboard of the year award!" 🙈 👀 🤢 Seriously. Hygiene. That aside, awesome, helpful video, Binh. Truly appreciated 🙏 I don't like repairing/disassembling Apple products without first seeing how they work, and what to avoid.
Tbf this is what happens when apple makes it virtually impossible to clean the keyboard. Not just the butterfly mechanism but also the fact that any keypress turn the Mac on and most people don't feel comfortable cleaning when it's on
Not sure you can buy just that. I don't know the technical name. I just call it the button. You'll likely have to buy a used keyboard assembly to get that.

Hey, once I put the key back in, it’s not as responsive as before it’s kinda like it’s stuck down and doesn’t click. You got any idea what could be the issue?
the white butterfly hinge falls off with the key attached when I tried this method, what does the butterlfy hinge click onto? is the white hinge supposed to be glued down....the center piece with the button stays in place but the hinge and key fall out and I dont see where the hinge is supposed to afix itself too

Hi, I love your videos! I need help to make a repair decision. Long story short, I got a A1707. many keys prints more than once the caracter when you hit the key. its quite random. After removing keys and hinges, its not about the keycap or hinge... So it seems to be related to the button itslef. Do I need to replace the whole keyboard or should I work button in some ways?
Hey, I noticed your spacebar on this video is just like mine.. the clear missing clips underneath. I ordered some replacement key from eBay, and have pretty much every part. The question is.. do I have to use glue to keep those clear clips in place (spacebar)?
Glad it helped. If you haven't already, please like and subscribe so others can find my videos and possibly consider watching a few others and commenting to get the algorithm to recommend my channel. Thanks!
Hey so my return key broke and I noticed that the clips from the butterfly were broken as well. The key still works but it falls out the laptop. Idk how id go about replacing it since it looks different than this. I’ve called multiple places and they all say I need a whole keyboard replacement but I literally just need that key fixed
I don’t have the serial number on my atm but it’s a late 2016 MacBook Pro 13’ w/Touch Bar. Yeah it looks to me that the studs that held the hinge in place broke inside the cap. I just don’t want to take off the wrong part
In general... say after 7 years of wear and tear (and my dad didnt get his share from the lawsuit thing that happened ages ago) I have like at least 5 keys I want to fix... the command key is the worst by the way... I read that the only way to do it is to have the entire keyboard replaced. But technically, is replacing just the damaged part like you showed here enough to fix all 5 problematic keys?
Can I put on double sided tape? One of my keys easily falls out (the whole key, the button, plastic part, everything falls out in one piece.) Do you have any advice of what I can do? Thanks, and exceptionally good video you’ve made 👍
@@ItsBinhRepaired I’m talking about that white stuff under those rubber things. There are thin strips of white plastic at exactly 4:16 you can see that
