If its not to late to add wads, the ACE Engine demo wad is very new and one of a kind. It runs on 1.9 Doom 2 and adds the kind of things normally only possible in GZDoom. I think it would be a good addition to showcase how far it has come.
with only 10 included "shitty" wads, there wouldn't be too much randomness to it. I didn't want to load the pack down with a ton of mediocre WADs, which is what 95% of WADs were. The goal was to capture the very best, and a handful of the very worst
From 94-95, yes, it would have likely been BBS's. However by 95, the internet had really taken over the distribution of WAD files. And that was about the time these massive disks of WAD files really started taking off.
Nice, I have a similar setup for these same wads as well (and through all cocowards wads too). Some of the early wads (eg return to phobos) require an old version of the exe to be completable and with newer versions some things don't work correctly and you will get stuck in some places. How are you managing those situations? The source ports (like gzdoom and prboomplus) have ways to simulate the older versions of the exe. Anyway its great to see these added.
I was not aware of certain versions being needed, beyond simply getting the game to launch the wad. If there is an issue completing the WAD, then I can easily go back and point it to be launched by a different version of DOOM. But I'll need that bug report sent to me before I'll be able to do it. Maybe something you are interested in testing when the time comes?? =)
my config would not work for your setup. To run that game properly you have to mount the cd images, install the game, mount the installed game folder, and then run it. If your files don't have the exact same names, installed options, etc... then it wouldn't work. You would also need to proper version of dosbox downloaded and setup, as only a few builds have the reel magic emulation built in.
@@RetroeXo I have the correct version of DosBox and the game plays great. I just need a config so I can run it from a DosBox shortcut so I can add it to my Launchbox games list.
@@mgpmbass3616 my launcher is a stub that calls a full launcher from my util folder. Unlike v5, where each game had a full launch file, I wrote a universal launcher that has a series of dependencies. I actually just made a video about the v6 backend that will come out in the next week or two.

excellent suggestion. It has been added
Another great addition to an already amazing project. Thank you so much for your work all these years!
I was one of those kids who created a very crappy WAD that likely circulated around for a bit. :)
I remember playing the Simpson doom conversion. Magazines would even show you how to make good levels.
still remember my dropped jaw when i first saw the Doom shareware back in 1993.......
Thanks for the history bits, I appreciate them. I remember some WADs back in the day I think I still have a CD with some on somewhere.
Yep I recall going to some places that sold these compilation discs at the time I didn't know they were fan base made maps!
no credit to the original authors in almost every case. It always amazed me they got away with it for so long.
Very cool, really appreciate all the work put into these projects!
Fantastic work, simply amazing.
Damn, you force me to log in to youtube everday to click Like.
it's a video blitz!
i wish there was a button for random .wad for the shitty wads or something

Amazing side project!
This is incredible!
Where's the sky may be, and Terry wads? If you include gzdoom, there should be brutal doom and the top winners of the cacowards.
i downloaded this cool SH* too, but i have no magzines inside, why?????????????????????
Was it really scraped from the Internet?
As I remember it, in the dos days we used not the Internet but dial-up BBS servers to download new stuff.

Two options are available for the user at launch time. You can choose to run with the original exe or with gzdoom.

@@RetroeXo Yeah sure, I can assist if you need. I can even create bug reports. I assume just on Discord, or github?
@@Orfax discord would be the place to start.
Any chance you could share a DosBox config / launch shortcut for the mpeg version of Flash Traffic City of Angels?
