My dad was the one that started our family's love affair with BMW'S from the 80's. I grew up with Capris, Big 6 XLE's Granada Ghias, Cortina bakkies, ROVER V8's, which is probably why i'm a car nut. My dad had the 518i with the BBS front spoiler, rear spoiler and the Mahle wheels, and then one day my uncle rocked up with a m535i, light green, motorsport front spoiler, dogleg box, recaros, no sunroof though, remember my dad taking it for a test drive, yooh i can still smell the rubber from the trx's 390. my uncle resprayed it black, an recovered the seats in black and green leather which was the craze back then, also fitted 16" compomotive wheels, had hockeneims before that, what i remember is that you could pull away from 3rd gear if you wanted to, but my uncle hardly used first, normal operation was from 2nd gear, and before you know it 195 in third gear, my other uncle had a 528i with 4spd manual, then a 1985 528i, with sunroof but auto, was practically new when he bought it. we also had various e30's ones with original mtech2 kits and some with fibre, mostly 2.7, some 323i, 320i, m30b35 and the list goes on, my dad bought an 85' 733i in 93' damn that thing was fast, 220 was our cruising speed every Saturday morning, he had an 85' 728i manual as well with 260kmh speedo sunroof etc, uncle had e23 735i with electric seats and sunroof, sports auto, nice car. saw a race between a silver e12 m535i and e28 m5 once robot to robot... from killarney raceway, e12 was in front. wish they could make cars like this again...
Chip Moosa, your taste is immaculate my brother, been a fan from your first shop, keep doing the motivational work, I honestly think celeb should be taken to the UK, reason is, she is beautiful and needs little work and I haven't seen one even close to her in the UK car shows but the CSI, also nice but a lot of work needed and it is loved in the UK and many will show up with it and remember they are fortunate to have parts and extras we don't have in SA which will make it a little hard for you, but nonetheless this is my opinion brother, I trust your decision is always best hence you're one of the best in SA.
Hi I own one and has great love for my e12 535 . When brother brought the car. I said when am big I will buy it from him. And I did buy it I now own my dream car
Thank you for sharing my Brother...the honest truth about the 5 series is that every BMW fanatic will tell you that the e12 5 series was the car that started thier passion for BMW's...for my personally ..my bigger brother owned a 528i I gold also had a 5 bar rim at the time this was in 1997.The car later stolen and never recovered but these were the cars back in the day...my passion for the brand BMW started with the 5 series ...Thank you this video, your content is BOSS.
Great information about older BMW's. I have 2 X e28's (M535i and an Alpina B10-not factory, an Alpina Australia kit) and love E12s too. Respect from Brisbane, Australia. B.T.W. looking for Alpina B10 spoilers (front and trunk/boot)-any ideas??.I used to teach English at an institute in Seoul South Korea, with several South Africans-great guys, they all enjoyed an odd beer on a hot day (or even a cold night).
Our first BM was an E12 518 which we discovered had been written off in a big crash and rebuilt but sold as virtually brand new!! So we returned it to the dodgy dealer we bought it from way back in 1980! Then My Dad bought an E3 2500, which I currently still have. It had a major mishap in 1988 when it got rolled big time then I rebuilt it into a donor body shell which was only 4 cars older than the original body shell going by the chassis #. It is still a runner but does really need a resto now. Great video Chico. God Bless.
Great content!!! I love this style and it really defines the title of the video. This is what you call an In Dept Review of a car. I definitely learnt things I never knew before... Personally dont have any history growing up with BMW, growing up we mostly owned Toyota Cressida's and Corolla's... but a very very beautiful 535 you have there Chip, I would love to see the restoration series of this car... Thanks for keeping up the amazing content and sharing the knowledge, you guys really starting something different with the way you present your video's... Keep it up!!!
Thank you for watching and supporting us. Cressidas and Corolla are definitely also part of our childhood journeys. We will definitely be doing some content on them.

This is the car that started my live affair with BMW. My dad had a beautiful silver M525i with the dog leg box, sunroof and was just amazing. Sadly it was stolen back in the day else it would be in my possession today. Saw a 1st standing in rather rough condition and the owners are just letting it deteriorate and aren't willing to sell

My dad owed a fjord blue e12 520 in 1980s...had it 15 years..best thing about this 535i was the jet turbine like smooth exhaust sound..no bmw ever since made it so good

Keep the car as close as possible to Original regarding the paint and gearbox. It will be worth more if you decide to sell. If it is something you going to keep in your collection then I think the colour you should start off with as a base is Dark Cherry. Add that Candy paint finish to it. It will POP in the Sunlight!
Hi Chip, love the content, just a question well 2 rather lol, that I've been wondering for a while how's the reliability of the m30 engine and would you advise someone like me to do a m30 swap in the e30 chasis or stick with the m20 engine? I have a e30 320i.
Hey brother. Thank you. So both are good options. However, you must remember that keeping an e30 and e30 will always be more valuable than an e30 with a non e30 engine. In terms of reliability, both are good, and the longevity will be determined by your driving style and also continuous maintenance and quality of parts used.

Salaams bro. i recently purchased a 525e e28. Unfortunately, the motor broke so i did a M50B25 swap. What's your opinion on whether I should spend money on the car to get it to a "fresh" status? Would a swapped e28 appreciate in value? or should i rather replace this with an e30 325i? one more Q, is it better to keep and auto E30 325i standards or is there more value in converting to manual (as an investment)?

Awe chip, indeed the 1 down gearbox in the kasi is called: "Isandla seMfene" loosely translated as "the hand of a baboon" why the name? A baboon is left handed, so the one down shifts the gearbox to the left/down instead of normal gearbox configuration white is 1 up/right 😂😂😂
